Right! I need an underwired maternity/nursing bra from an actual shop...

Rather than an online store as I need to work out what size I need. Any suggestions gratefully received...

I'm not sure you can get any that are underwired? Sorry, not very helpful!

stepmooster · 30/12/2013 02:42

I was told by M&S that they don't do underwired maternity/nursingbras as they can damage milk ducts.

Fasterkillpussycat · 30/12/2013 02:43

I recommend Bravissimo, if you have one near by. They sorted me out with maternity bras and did a proper fitting.

cupcake78 · 30/12/2013 02:46

I don't think you can get these in shops. I found some online but the sizing was irrelevant as they were all so different anyway!

Nursing bras are such a pain to find!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/12/2013 02:47

Theres no evidence for damage apparently.
Im a 36-38FF normally. Theres no way on Gods sweet earth that I will EVER cope in non wired! I already have intertrigo from being crammed into a slightly small underwired! SERIOUSLY bad things would happen in a soft bra! Sad

You can get underwired nursing bras , just google them. Not in shops though.

cocobutterandsoda · 30/12/2013 02:58

If you have a jojo maman bebe near you you'll find them there...

Tomkat79 · 30/12/2013 04:15

I bought a load of underwired nursing bras from motherhood maternity in the states 7 years ago, never had a problem with blocked milk ducts. I also shudder at the thought of no wire.

They now ship to the UK too altho not sure they go over an F cup there or jojo? Might need to just let em hang free saggy Grin

Tomkat79 · 30/12/2013 04:20

Plus their secret fit belly jeans are amazing!

EagleRay · 30/12/2013 04:29

Try the Anita range - I only wear underwired and they have several in their range.

And definitely try on - if you go to their website here they have a list of stockists near you (they seem to be widely stocked)

Two things I found with the sizing: it's a bit confusing as US sizing works slightly differently. Also, the sizing between colours varies slightly so don't assume that if a particular size fits you in black, that you'll get the same fit in beige!

Oh, and don't shell out too much before the baby is born - my boobs grew massively after the birth and worked my way up through the cup sizes.

Good luck!

TransatlanticCityGirl · 30/12/2013 04:54

I have yet to find these in UK shops, so was thinking internet was the only way to go. Figleaves has some online.

I was just in Canada last week and visited a maternity shop where underwired made up the vast majority of the selection. So guess what I bought...!!! Sooo much better than soft cup.

PastaandCheese · 30/12/2013 07:10

The only ones I ever found in the UK were the Anita ones and they were online.

I sent an email to Bravissimo suggesting they extend range to include these but alas, they haven't taken me up on my marvellous suggestion!

windywoo26 · 30/12/2013 07:16

I am a 34gg and have found Hot Milk feeding bras to be way above the others. They are not underwired but I am getting the support I want. M&S ones were only good for wearing in bed.

When I was pg bravissimo fitted me with underwired bras. As long as they are correctly fitted they shouldn't cause a problem

MonkeysTypewriter · 30/12/2013 07:18

Even at that size, you might find non-underwired are fine if you are properly fitted - I am talking Bravissimo NOT M&S. Try that first, as it might be better than an online one which is underwired but does not fit properly.

I have friends far bigger than you (as in, got to the biggest size even Bravissimo do) and they managed fine with non-underwired (although i think generally they kept in underwired until baby was born)

BikeRunSki · 30/12/2013 07:21

Jojo

MigGril · 30/12/2013 07:23

if your still pregnant, then I would recommend a trip bravissimo. They will happily fit your with underwire bras while pregnant, they will fit you differently to when not pregnant but their staff are trained to do this.

As much of a pain as it is I would recommenda soft nonwired bra to start with after as when your milk comes in and your boobs expand you want to feel comfortable. Then after a couple of months look for a soft wired nursing bra.

There is no point in buying anything till you actually need it as you may find your size changes a lot. I went from a GG to a K from first pregnant to milk coming in. although not everyone changes that much, not worth buying anything now.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 30/12/2013 07:26

Second Eagle's suggestion of Anita.

I got mine in Rigby & Peller. So much better than the non wired ones. I think they skip so letters so I ended up as a G!

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 30/12/2013 07:28

*some

MinesAPintOfTea · 30/12/2013 07:37

I saw some in my local posh independent "baby stuff" (prams, carriers etc) shop.

Oh but don't bother getting nursing bras during pregnancy. After 18 months bfings I'm still sufficiently larger than pregnancy for those to not fit. And get something very stretchy for immediately post-birth. You can worry about good supportive nursing bras once you've recovered from birth, are up and about and have got bfing established.

addictedtosugar · 30/12/2013 08:16

Can you measure as per a bra intervention? and order from these guys
Or, go to a shop, discover a size, and then go home and order on line.
I don't think you'll find underwired nursing bras in many shops.
Or buy a normal bra, and modify

Has baby arrived yet? It took til about 6 weeks for my size to settle.

ClearlyMoo · 30/12/2013 08:20

I LOVE THIS THREAD. THANKS OP!!

I recently got measured at Bravissimo then ate too many chocolates got a bit wider (back not boob) but have some handy extender things from eBay that make your bra bigger.

Bravissimo lady was awesome. They don't sell underwired nursing bras but lots of online places do. I'm not at that stage yet.

Fantastic Bravissimo lady said the reason they don't sell them is because your boobs change shape and size during a days feed and Bravissimo like to only sell a proper fit. She said that's why they don't sell them and not cos of milk duct damage blah blah. Hopefully if we all have nicely fitting u/w that won't happen anyway!

Good luck ladies!

AnythingNotEverything · 30/12/2013 08:31

I second bravissimo during pregnancy. They coped with my increasing size very well, and with wires.

I bought one non wired nursing bra at 38 ish weeks from them which had room for when my milk came in, then went back when dd was about 3weeks old for some more. I wear a Royce one -

www.bravissimo.com/m/#products/lingerie/nursing-bras/charlotte-nursing-bra/nude/ro12nu/

It's not pretty, but the shape's actually not bad when I'm dressed. I'm a 34j at the mo.

I might invest in a Hot Milk one. There's an independent place near me that sells them.

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 30/12/2013 08:54

Hot Milk. They do some sort of air tube thing in place of a wire that gives great shape and support. I measured as per bra intervention to order the right size.
