As title suggests really. Am 5 weeks pregnant (wasn't planned but we're happy). But am die to go snowboarding on Sunday.
has anyone had any experience of boarding in the early stages of pregnancy?
Am going with a huge group, so if I go and don't board, how do I go a whole week without telling anyone my secret?

I wouldn't board pregnant ...don't do anything that you'd blame yourself for if you lost the baby....god forbid if anything happens with your pregnancy, it's very likely that you'll look back and say "Was it because I fell hard those few times whilst learning to snowboard?" Obviously there's no way of knowing but I wouldn't risk putting yourself in that position where you may regret it for the rest of your life. Sounds dramatic but just thinking about my miscarriage and how I felt afterwards. Also I snowboard and I remember how many times I fell when learning. In snowboarding there's a lot of twisting your torso - which I have been told by yoga teachers you should avoid in early pregnancy. Also whilst pregnant, your body will be flooding your body with a hormone called relaxin which causes your muscles around your pelvis and back etc to relax to make way for your body stretching and growing, and this leaves you more vulnerable to pulling muscles, especially as a first-time boarder. You use a lot of muscles that you don't usually use and snowboarding (if you're not a regular) is exhausting ! You'll be tired anyway at 6 weeks I'd imagine as your body is so busy laying foundations for growing a human! I've also heard advice from various people saying that if you have a hard fall during early pregnancy, it can cause the embryo to dislodge from where it's implanted causing miscarriage. Not sure how accurate this is though. I think in general once you find out you're pregnant, your body wants you to take it easy. Unless you very regularly cycle, run, ski, snowboard etc and your body is extremely used to those things, then I'd take it easy and not do any of those activities until 12 weeks when the pregnancy is well established and the risk of miscarriage is greatly reduced. Definitely still go but feign an injury and still enjoy the snow, outdoors and apres ski atmosphere !
