Different symptoms for pregnancy #2 is it a different gender?

I'm currently preggers with #2 and have different symptoms. With number one my only symptom was nausea and I needed the loo more in the third trimester. I'm only 6 weeks now and I have sore boobs, I'm knackered, I'm going to the loo in the night already, and I don't have much sickness yet, and off and on dry mouth/thirst. Could this mean #2 is a boy? What's your experience of additional pregnancies? Same symptoms or different and did they turn out to be different genders?

I had not different but much worse symptoms with 2nd pregnancy my 1st was a boy and second a girl but that could just be coincidence.

wokeupwithasmile · 14/12/2013 09:34

I had your same symptoms with my first and it was a boy. The women I have spoken too also told me that it was more difficult with boys. Obviously all anecdotal but...

Pascha · 14/12/2013 09:37

Both pregnancies were quite different in lots of ways and they were both boys. Early symptoms were different, positions, cravings, nausea, all different.

Both are boys.

I don't think there's any science behind the idea that if you feel different the baby is a different sex. Sorry.

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 14/12/2013 10:07

I was very sick with number 1 and it was a girl.
Not sick once with number 2 and it was a boy.
No sickness with this one at all and it's another girl.
So don't think it's to do with gender at all just each pregnancy could be different Grin

woodhj · 14/12/2013 10:21

Totally different with my second and he was a boy (first a girl) dd was a doddle. ds I got every complaint going, swollen veins, constipation, horrible discharge etc etc.
Pregnant again and its going ok so far so im reckoning a girl x

There's no link whatsoever between symptoms and the sex of the baby. Every pregnancy is different. Your general health, age, the level of various hormones, baby's position, external influences etc all make a difference. It's just different pregnancies are different, that's all and this difference occurs whether you have the same sex as first time round or the opposite.

Congratulations!

I am 35 weeks with no3 and my symptoms are totally different to my symptoms in my 2 previous pregnancies however as I have one of each I'm pretty sure it has to be the same sex as one of them Grin

There is scientific evidence that hcg levels are higher in girl pregnancies and the difference is statistically significant. They're careful about using hcg levels to predict gender as the variability between women is too high for accurate prediction but average hcg levels are higher when carrying a girl so it would make sense if your symptoms are stronger when carrying a girl.

I can't link on my phone but google hcg levels and gender, I think the studies were done by Yarov.

Showy · 14/12/2013 18:48

I think that hcg levels are typically something like 18% higher with girls, that much is true. But we don't actually know what causes morning sickness. Some people get it from before the date of their missed period, some get it much later, some get it and then it tails off as their hcg levels rise, some have it all the way through so its link to hcg is tenuous at best.

And anecdotally, I had no morning sickness with a girl and terrible morning sickness with a boy so I know on a personal level that regardless of the likelihood of more hcg with the girl pregnancy, it didn't affect morning sickness.

Generally, symptoms are no indication of the sex of the baby.

This pregnancy has been totally different to my first, to the point I was convinced it was a boy this time. But no, another girl!

My two pregnancies were very similar, lots of sickness with both. One ended with a dd and the other with a ds.

Strokethefurrywall · 14/12/2013 19:57

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with no. 2 - was totally convinced it was a girl, just from gut instinct from day one. Had completely different pregnancy so far, carrying differently, craving more carbs, couldn't have been a more different pregnancy.

Scan said another boy! I was totally floored, although I probably shouldn't have been surprised given that DH's gene pool is absolutely male dominated...

Catabelle · 15/12/2013 06:37

I had the easiest pregnancy ever first time round and it was a boy. I'm pregnant now with number 2 and have had really bad morning sickness, pelvic/back pain and felt generally rubbish and it's another boy. All my friends were convinced I was having a girl as it's been so different this time round.

3bunnies · 15/12/2013 06:54

First pregnancy I had symptoms of pregnancy - nausea though only sick a few times. Second pregnancy I had nothing until SPD hit at 18wks, third pregnancy I had some symptoms though not as bad as first pregnancy. I have girl, girl, boy. So no association with sex of the child.

feetheart · 15/12/2013 07:19

Two identical pregnancies - no nausea or sickness, breezed through both even though I was 40 and 43 respectively, easy labour (very, very lucky I know and I tend to keep quiet about it but you did ask :))
1 of each.

cathpip · 15/12/2013 07:28

First was a boy, felt great whole pregnancy, second was a girl, felt shite all pregnancy. This one I was adamant it was a girl as I feel really shite, but as the soon graphed told me three weeks ago "there is definitely no mistaking the sex, it is a boy" still in shock, but happy :)

FixItUpChappie · 15/12/2013 07:28

Not for me. My pregnancies were quite different (had hyperemesis with one but not two for example) yet both were beautiful boys Smile

Foxeym · 15/12/2013 08:33

Sick as a dog with DC 1&2 both girls, only mild nausea with DC3, a boy!

yummymango · 15/12/2013 08:46

I had constant nausea until 10 weeks with my first pregnancy (girl) as well as being completely exhausted. I am 8 weeks now with number 2 and so far no nausea or any other symptoms to write home about so looking forward to finding out the sex!

TKKW · 15/12/2013 09:25

First time, a bit of nausea and tiredness. This time, tiredness and a lot more nausea continuing til 17 weeks. Even had occasional vomiting this time. Both girls- Im 20wks now but found out after amnio.

Enjoy your pregnancy.

Shellywelly1973 · 15/12/2013 10:31

I've had 3 of each gender & honestly don't think the gender has been particularly relevant.

winkywinkola · 15/12/2013 11:02

When pg with sons, I was so ill until 15 weeks. Awful.

With dd, I was only sporadically nauseous.

seatfor5 · 15/12/2013 13:01

I am PG with No4, having 3 Ds's and this time around is totally different I have had no real MS so much so I was sure the 12 scan was going to show nothing! I have had the Rage bad this time (not with the other three), I have had very bad tiredness again not with the others and this time around I have bleed quite a bit which I did with the other 3! I find out in 3 weeks if its a DS or DD I am expecting it to be another DD :)
