Help meeeeee! Im 36 weeks pregnant and the inside of my vagina is itchy mainly the left side at the top and the hood of my clitorious. Sorry for being so grim.

Its been like this for two weeks mainly at night. It will itchy a little and then if i touch it with tissue after going to the toilet it will get worse. Its like the more i itch the itchier it becomes. Then it starts to burn.

I should have mentioned when I first got it to the midwife but i thought it may pass. If its thrush why isit pretty much only itchy on the left side?

I think i may of made a little sore also where i have itched it so much.

Does anyone else have this or have had it please say yes and how do I get rid!!!!

Sounds like thrush. Speak to your MW or GP if you are concerned.

Princesspond · 05/12/2013 22:57

It could be thrush? do you have any discharge? I had this when pregnant (never had it before or after) call your midwife to discuss they can see you and can prescribe Canesten if it is thrush.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 05/12/2013 22:59

Sounds like thrush. I've only ever had it when pregnant. Was maddening! Easily treated though so get to the GP,

Tomkat79 · 05/12/2013 23:02

Not sure if you are anywhere near 24hr supermarket but I know you can buy canesten cream on the shelf there. Safe in pregnancy and if doesn't turn out to be thrush then won't have done any harm. Relief in about 20 mins x

Princesspond · 05/12/2013 23:04

Just to add, I feel for you the itching drove me mad, and you can't buy canesten over the counter if you are pregnant. I nearly cried (actually I think I did cry a little bit) at Tesco pharmacy when they refused to sell it to me as I was away for the weekend and couldn't get to the midwife or GP.

Peacenquiet2 · 05/12/2013 23:04

Yep id say thrush also. It can be more localised to one area. Get to a 24 hour chemist for suppositry or capsule and cream for relief soon. Ive had it in each pg and find the suppositry/cream combo best.

nippysweetie82 · 05/12/2013 23:06

If you can't get the medication at this time try to get some plain yogurt for relief from the itching.

ems1910 · 05/12/2013 23:06

Thrush. On my 4th lot and the itching is grim!

Cream over the counter can be expensive or hold off for a prescription tomorrow. I found a cool shower helped.

Tomkat79 · 05/12/2013 23:07

Not the fluconazole capsule peace big no no in pregnancy. Cream safest for now

Fontofnowt · 05/12/2013 23:07

I don't want to say how I know.
If you are stuck until a prescription can be collected and have no yoghurt handy butter the outside of a bag of frozen peas.
Just until you get cream.

Fontofnowt · 05/12/2013 23:08

I mean a small sandwich bag of frozen peas like.
Not 2k iceland saver bag in your keks.

SupermansGirl · 05/12/2013 23:09

Im actually going to be pleased if it is thrush i worry a lot. Im going to the pharmacy first thing tomorrow and making my mum go in for me. That way I no they will give it to her.

Thanks everyone I put sudo cream on it and I think I aggravated it. Iv never had thrush before and my friend suffers from BV for the last 3 years and I always used to say "it cant be that bad". I feel for her now and will never say it again!

If you can lay your hands on a Piriton tablet that will keep you going until the morning.

Naomilouise1992 · 05/12/2013 23:10

Thrush??? And try natural yogurt xxx

BoffinMum · 05/12/2013 23:11

A tepid bath with some salt or bicarbonate of soda can be a useful emergency measure. If you can bear to spray the old lady garden with a cold hand shower that will calm it temporarily too.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 05/12/2013 23:11

Agree with what others have said re thrush but I'd also get a soap specifically for your vaginal area as it will be at the correct ph, and wear a skirt and go knickerless for a bit if practical so the air can circulate. Don't sit in a soapy bath and make sure you rinse with fresh, clean water. Hth.

SupermansGirl · 05/12/2013 23:11

Also to add, can I pass on thrush to my DP?

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 05/12/2013 23:13

Yes. He will need Canesten on his gentleman vegetables for about a week.

Princesspond · 05/12/2013 23:13

Yes you can pass it on (if you are having sex) the midwife gave us both cream (well she gave me the pessary cream combi).

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 05/12/2013 23:14

Yes I believe you can pass thrush on so I'd avoid sex until your sorted otherwise you can pass it back and forth.

BoffinMum · 05/12/2013 23:15

Femfresh do a product that is calming as well as cleansing in a pinkish bottle (rather than the usual blue one).

IsleOfRight · 05/12/2013 23:17

I had this recently and was convinced it was thrush to which I am susceptible. Three pessaries later still no good so went to gp. We deduced an allergy, probably to a spermicide on a condom. Anti Histamine helped a lot. Not recommended in pregnancy but I got expert advice that piriton ok after 14 weeks. Or Claritin.

SupermansGirl · 05/12/2013 23:21

Im off of sex being so far gone now so not a problem its just a good excuse for him ;)

Seriously as if pregnancy isnt hard enough its like your prone to any infection/illness going in this world also!

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 05/12/2013 23:25

Careful use of Piriton is fine. Speak to OOH GP if in doubt.

Mamma1979 · 05/12/2013 23:29

I'm 17 weeks and was just so fed up with an attack of thrush. The pessary really wasn't working so my midwife gave me a tip. A peeled clove of garlic, rubbed over the area and inside the vagina really does work. Trust me I was skeptical and yet it did clear it. I used it at night for four days and it had cleared up by the fourth night.
