Help meeeeee! Im 36 weeks pregnant and the inside of my vagina is itchy mainly the left side at the top and the hood of my clitorious. Sorry for being so grim.

Its been like this for two weeks mainly at night. It will itchy a little and then if i touch it with tissue after going to the toilet it will get worse. Its like the more i itch the itchier it becomes. Then it starts to burn.

I should have mentioned when I first got it to the midwife but i thought it may pass. If its thrush why isit pretty much only itchy on the left side?

I think i may of made a little sore also where i have itched it so much.

Does anyone else have this or have had it please say yes and how do I get rid!!!!

Also, I had live natural yoghurt for breakfast and lunch just to help as well.

Labia itching in pregnancy can also be due to increased blood flow and vein swelling from the pregnancy. I had it itches like mad. I found an anti vag itch cream helped. A lot. It stopped the second I gave birth btw

I haven't checked if it's safe in pregnancy but vagisil cream is wonderful stuff for thrush!

Peacenquiet2 · 06/12/2013 09:52

Tomcat, my mw has prescribed it a few times in my last pgs, why us it a no no?

BlackholesAndRevelations · 06/12/2013 13:08

Gentlemans vegetables!! Grin Grin Grin

Thrush is hideous, does sound like that. Hope you can clear it up with the canesten!

Hi peace, it's a bit of a grey area but has been linked to birth defects. To be fair it's more longer term doses that put babies at risk. A one off dose of 150mg shouldn't do any harm but if other treatment options like pessary/cream best to go with them. Guess your little ones are proof that it's not so bad afterall! My mw/GP wouldn't prescribe x

Must be thrush. I used to get it a lot few years ago and I remember the crying and the agony! Can't you send your DP to let's say a 24 Asda with pharmacy?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 06/12/2013 22:54

Ha ha, loving the garlicky vag! Grin

I use the garlic remedy to keep those pesky vampires out of my ladygarden.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 06/12/2013 23:26

I think they'd get caught up in the bush(es) anyway...

Def sounds like thrush…on my 3rd bout ATM. Pregnancy hormones cause it so if I was you, I'd keep a Canesten Combi set in the house for emergencies. I'd say you've irritated the one one really bad area by scratching as it's v delicate tissue down there….the cream really only reaches the tissue at the outside of the vagina, the pessary gets to the root of the problem. Be careful using the applicator though, don't go too deep as it can cause cervical irritation which is potentially dangerous in pregnancy. Other point is it's best used at night as gravity will make the pessary fall down the cavity towards the vagina & won;t work so well. Good luck!

fluffandnonsense · 07/12/2013 09:30

I feel your pain I've had it on and off since 6 weeks! I'm now nearly 32 weeks and going through another flare up. I've gone through so many tubes of canesten it's untrue! I agree when it's at it's worst have a cool salt water bath, smear natural yoghurt down below for cooling! Hope it clears up for you soon xx

I get extremely itchy in the whole area during pregnancy (and pre period) and the only solution is antihistamines. I take them whenever I need them (5/7 days) and Dr had no problem with it at all when I mentioned it to him.

Hopefully she's recovered in the last 4 years since starting the thread.

Do not use oral treatment for thrush when pregnant as can harm the baby. Only external vaginal cream/pessary as prescribed and directed by midwife/GP (my midwife tested my urine first to check it was indeed thrush). My midwife also told me not to use the applicator provided with the pessary when pregnant as could harm the cervix (which could be dangerous in pregnancy).

Lilacpenny1 · 20/11/2017 12:17

My midwife told me to insert the pessary carefully with my fingers (and not use the plastic applicator for reason above of risk to cervix).
