Hi Everybody, sorry this might be a long one...

I hope you can help me, i am pregnant again after 4 miscarriages and i am worried sick.

I am currently 5 weeks 2 days since my last missed period and i lost my symptoms the day i turned 5 weeks, I hoped everything was ok but I started getting pain in my left ovary, like ovulation pain but more painful so i went to my local epu, i didn't expect to see a heartbeat or anything... Anyway they took some blood for a HCG test and gave me a scan, they confirmed it wasn't ectopic but said i had gas around my ovary and it could just be cramp. On the scan there was a sac but nothing in it so she said i could have mixed my dates up but she couldn't say it was a viable pregnancy until she saw something in a sac.

This morning she rang with my HCG result and they are 4725!! She said we should be able to see something from about 1500 and she's going to take some more blood on Monday and rescan me in 10 days?

The pain in my left side is still there, i have no pregnancy symptoms and my breasts have gone smaller...

Can somebody just give me some advice as to what could be happening??

Thanks xxx

My understanding (and please do check this out because I only had this from google when I had a similar situation, so very likely to be questionable info) was that a baby in the right place should be seen from maybe 1500 (MAYBE!), but certainly from 2500 onwards. I read that after that, the HCG must be checked, if it's going up and no baby can be seen then checks should be done for ectopic. When they scanned me, they saw nothing in my tubes or ovaries, but my HCG was nowhere near yours either.

Hopefully yours will just be a very early scan issue - it's super possible that they just didn't see it at that stage. xxxxxxx

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've had 4 losses and know how devastating it can be. I wouldn't worry too much about the pain -I've had it in very early pregnancy too and often wondered if it was an ovarian cyst or something similar. It's good news that they've ruled out it being ectopic. Symptoms- such as sore boobs- do come and go a far bit so again try not to read too much into it (easier said than done). As far as your scan results and hcg levels go I've cut and pasted this for you to show that there is definitely hope:

"Up to one in three women experience vaginal bleeding during the firest few months of the pregnancy, and many wonder how they can make sure the pregnancy is viable. In a study published in the Obstetrics & Gynecology journal in January of 2013 the authors reviewed records of patients with first trimester vaginal bleeding who were evaluated with serum beta hCG levels and ultrasound.

Higher hCG levels were associated with a greater proportion of ultimately viable pregnancies.

The authors found that 90% of the time in viable pregnancies one would expect to see the gestational sac at 1,918 mIU/ml, the yolk sac at 5,412 mIU/ml and the fetal pole at 24,599 mIU/ml.

They found that 99% of the time one would expect to see the gestational sac at 3,510 mIU/ml, the yolk sac at 17,716 mIU/ml and the fetal pole at 47,685 mIU/ml."

Fingers crossed that your next set of HCG results show a good rate of increase.

xx

I'd question how they were sure it wasn't ectopic. If they see a sac in the uterus with no yolk or fetal pole it still can be ectopic as they often have pseudo sacs. 10 days seems like an awfully long time to have to wait to be rescanned when you are still in pain.

have a look here.. http://www.babymed.com/hcg-level-in-early-pregnancy hcg levels
yours seem to be within normal parameters. Hang in there, it's early days. Time will make everything clearer. x

It's perfectly normal not to see anything but a sac at 5+2.
