There will be nearly 3 years between my DD and when this little one arrives next month.

I don't think there is a good and bad gap tbh. Theres 8 years difference between my Dh and his brother and they have always had a very close relationship and still do. The same with my dad and his brother. There is 10 years between them and they are very close.

tallmummy · 09/07/2006 20:05

Between ds1 and ds2 there's 19 months, ds2 to ds3 is 2years 2 months and ds3 to ds4 is 23 months. The gaps seem just right to me - especially as the older 2 are at school full time and ds3 is at preschool most mornings.

NotAnOtter · 09/07/2006 20:06

i have every age gap going- bigger is easier for me - smaller they bicker but get on great at other times. No right answer - two and two was hard for me!

mower · 09/07/2006 20:06

Will be just 13 months between my two. Have ds 9 months and am due again 5th Nov.

kid · 09/07/2006 20:08

3 years 3 months between my two. It worked well for us as DD started nursery a few months before DS was born so she was already settled in by the time he was born.

fuzzywuzzy · 09/07/2006 20:09

There's 18 months between my girls, I panicked a bit at first but it's really nice they amuse eachother (when they're not killing eachother), and they'll both be at school a year apart which will be nice for them.

agalch · 09/07/2006 20:10

Ds1 15 in Sept

Ds2 11 in Dec

Dd 2 in August

Pg and due 23rd July so big and small age gaps.Mostly ok but finding the teen hormones and dd and terrible 2's hard going cos i'm pg i think.

alex8 · 09/07/2006 20:11

I'm glad I'm not someone who thinks that there is such a thing as the right age gap. You may start ttc to make the age gap you want but sadly you may not conceive for years even if you got pregnant first time before. Or you can miscarry. Its just an added pressure when people talk about the best amount of time

crazydazy · 09/07/2006 20:12

2 years 4 months between my DD and DS. Was hard when DS was born as I had a small toddler too but its nice now as they play well together.

KristinaM · 09/07/2006 20:12

I have a 4 year gap and a 17 month gap. So far prefer the larger gap - more time for/with the baby as older child at playgroup / nursery etc. People say that small gap is better when kids are older....hmmm....

DumbledoresGirl · 09/07/2006 20:13

I have 4 children. The age gaps are 18 months, 2 and a quarter years, and nearly 3 years.

I would say the best of those age gaps is 18 months as ds1 and ds2 are very close, but only have them that clsoe together if you can cope with the full-on parenting experience.

The 2 year gap was not a clever idea: ds2 resented dd for years although they get on well enough now.

3 year gap is fine and allows you to get one potty trained before the next comes along etc, but they are not so close playmates as they would be if closer together in age.

Gobbledigook · 09/07/2006 20:15

19 months between first two and 22 months between 2 and 3

zippy539 · 09/07/2006 20:15

22 months between mine and after a baptism of fire it is seems to be working well. However, I don't think the actual gap is the significant factor - more the personalities of the respective children which you obviously can't predict (rather like you can't predict the gaps!).

Jaysfirst · 09/07/2006 20:16

Alex8 i am sorry you feel like that, it wasnt meant to add any pressure to anyone, but its a natural thought to have when you have one child and are thinking about when would be best for you to have another. I personally think that each persons situation is different and this therefore influences them differently and i think this is reflected by everyones responses i believe theres always room for opinions ideas and experience, its just up to you what you want to do with it.
Hope youre not feeling the pressure

23 months between my two boys.

Beauregard · 09/07/2006 20:19

4 years between my dd's!

Jaysfirst · 09/07/2006 20:20

Mower, thats quite a small gap you got yourself there!!! One thing i think of when i think about small age gaps is that the first child doesnt really know that another baby is coming on and therefore theres no jelousy or temper tantrums, its almost like there has always been two, but then on the other hand i can imagine its going to be quite knackering!

2 years 10 months between my two. More than once child is hard work whatever the age gap it seems.

I am 7 years older than db, my mum said it was like having a first child all over again.

Jaysfirst · 09/07/2006 20:23

Maybe it also depends on how many children you would like to have as to how you would like the gap to fall.....

Between DS1 & DD 18m.... Great no problems.
between DD &DS2 4 years...again OK as older 2 were at school so I could enjoyed the baby years over again.
Between DS2 &DS3 nearly 7 years....HARD WORK really was like starting all over again!
Between DS3 & DS4 2.5 years....Can't remember much!
Between DS4 & DS5 18m....

Bit of a nightmare really looking back...
I had DS1 doing A levels.
DD doing GCSEs
Ds2 just starting secondary school.
DS3 3.5, DS4 18m, DS5 new born.

Looking back I must have been mad! But wouldn't change a thing!

emmawill · 09/07/2006 20:48

dd 18 months ds nearly 6 months - very hard work but they do make each laugh a lot

7up · 09/07/2006 20:51

ds1 11.5years
ds2 21months

wouldnt recommend it!age gap doesnt allow me to spend much time doing stuff with eldest and even though he loves his little bruv to bits it does annoy him that we dont get to do things together like we did before youngest came along

brimfull · 09/07/2006 20:54

dd 14.5 yrs
ds 3.5yrs

wee bit too big of a gap methinks ,but they have a lovely relationship.

glassofwine · 09/07/2006 21:16

There was 2 years between DD1 and DD2 - perfect
There was 11 months between DD2 and DS1 - hellish, but great now
