notagranny - am a bit confused, do you have 5 boys and 1 girl? Would you mind telling me how old they are (just nosey that's all!)

chatee · 09/07/2006 21:22

3 years 6 months exactly and it was the right gap for us
ds misses dd when she's at school but within 15 mins ofbeing together at least one of them will be in tears!!

I have 2yrs 4mths between DS1 and DS2 - shorter than we would have planned, but it's worked out well. They get on really well, and we've never had a problem with jealousy, probably because they're the same sex.

3yrs 5mths between DS2 and DD. It was nice having the larger gap this time, because the calm mornings when DS2 was in Nursery made up for having to do school runs.

Neither gap was planned, DS2 was an 'accident' so earlier than imagined, and I had a m/c before I had DD so she was later. I'm happy with how it's all worked out.

notagrannyyet · 09/07/2006 21:33

Mercy.... yes I have 5 sons & 1 DD.

Ages now are...26,24,21,13,11,&9....The baby days are long gone but I can still remember them!

Tommy · 09/07/2006 21:36

there's 19 months between my 2 DSs and, mostly, they get on great )they are 4.5 and nearly 3 now)

There will be a gap of 3.5 years between DS2 and next one - not planned like that but, hey ho - you don't always get what you plan do you?

Mercy · 09/07/2006 21:37

notagrannyyet - wow!!

bubblepop · 09/07/2006 21:41

3 years is a nice gap, they play together(and argue a lot later!)
18 months is not recommended by me, its too hard when they're little
i reckon the best gap is 5 years, when the older one starts school, you can start all over again!!

hunkermunker · 09/07/2006 21:43

21m between mine.

DS1 is 2.3.
DS2 is nearly 6m.

I'll let you know when they're...ooh...21 and 19

notagrannyyet · 09/07/2006 21:44

Between DS2 & DS3 The gap is 8 years not 7

noonar · 09/07/2006 22:06

I think that small gaps are harder in practical terms, but with a bigger gap the emotional adjustment for the older child could be greater. so its swings and roundabouts. my dh can still remember being resentful that his neighbours got to see his sis b4 him when she was born- he was 5. he remembers not ever being at the same 'level'as her, so they didnt play - he just teased her! He wishes the gap was smaller. but thats just his experience. our girls are 2yrs 4m apart. they're now 2 and 4 and play/ squabble equally well.

Reece · 09/07/2006 23:01

16 months between DS1 and DS2.
Ds is 2.8 and DS2 is 16 months.
1st year was the hardest part but now little one is walking things are getting easier and harder at the same time. Hope that makes sense!

Would like another one but not ready yet. Obviously gap will be bigger next time around so will be a whole new experience.

Yes Wow notagrannyyet!!

Lemmingswife · 09/07/2006 23:12

Three and a half years between my DS's. It isn't a bad gap I guess & they love each other to bits, but they squabble a lot too!

singledadofthree · 09/07/2006 23:13

about 18 months between each of mine - means they have plenty in common..ish

lucykate · 09/07/2006 23:14

there is 3.5yrs between dd and ds. we wanted them closer but m/c twice in between. its a good age gap, i found making the leap from one child to two easier than friends and family who had them closer together.

NotAnOtter · 09/07/2006 23:16

not a granny yet - so similar
ds1-dd 2 years
dd-ds2 2 years

ds2-ds3 6.5 years
ds3-ds4 3 years
??????????

Gingeme · 09/07/2006 23:25

I have a 12year old ds, a 10 year old ds, a 2year old ds and my 4th ds is due in October. They all get on famously and its lovely

fattiemumma · 09/07/2006 23:25

4 days short of 4 years.

rbj949703 · 09/07/2006 23:50

3 Years between DD1 and DS (who fight constantly)
6 years between DS and DD2

DD2 gets along fantastically well with both DD1 and DS

Knowing what I know now, i'd go for a big gap.

eidsvold · 09/07/2006 23:51

dd1 was 2 yrs 4 months old when dd2 was born.

Xavielli · 10/07/2006 09:00

15months... I love it... a bit nappy heavy but thats the only down side! lol

They interact really well.. no jealousy and it is easy to see they adore each other already.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/07/2006 09:02

15 months between my two.

Hard work but wouldnt swap it for the world!

petrified · 10/07/2006 09:08

Theres 5 years between my three brothers (2yrs then 3yrs) which is great they have always been really good friends and then i come 5 years later, bit lonely being the only girl and quite a bit younger!

My DP and his sis are 14m apart, a 10yr gap then 2 brothers 13m apart. They all love it, always had a play friend!

NappiesGalore · 10/07/2006 09:09

i have 3 v close together -only 2 and half years between ds1 and ds3 w/ 13 moth and 18 month gaps.
think you need nerves of steel, endless energy and patience and to be able to afford good support to do it quite so intensively, but maybe im just a wimp (i dont think so though)
still, i am right in the middle of the most intensive bit IYSWIM; the first year of the youngest one's life and all at home. in 2 years i may not remember the slog part and just be revelling in the lovely close relationships they do/will have. guess time will tell.
