There is a poster on here who says this happened to her whilst at uni. Hopefully she will see this and post for you.

What sort of things did you want to know?

absentmindeddooooodles · 21/10/2013 20:13

There was someone on here who posted about a tummy ache and it became a live birth thread! She hsd no idea she was pg.

I found out at 22 weeks. Not the same but still quite late.

Bunbaker · 21/10/2013 20:23

I once got talking to a mum at the children's hospital when both of our children were in. She told me her story and I asked her why she had no inkling. She said she thought the weight gain was because she had started a new job and she was eating more, she still had periods and IMO she mustn't have had any other symptoms for her not to realise.

When she went into labour her dad rang the doctor who said it sounded like renal colic and to take her to hospital. When she got there the doctor told her she was in labour.

I find it incredible that women don't know, but I was as regular as clockwork and realised I might be pregnant when I was a week late. Also, because I was slim I had a very obvious looking baby bump. Lastly DD moved around, kicked and hiccuped a lot.

Thanks, i hope they do.
well it happened to me a few years ago and i wanted other women who'd been through it to answer some questions to compare what we went through when we didnt know we were pregnant to what other women went through when they were pregnant, to see why only a selection of women experience this. My doctor said it was more common than people thought but its very hard to get hold of people who have been through it compared to women with normal pregnancy's :D

I found out at 24 weeks which was scary enough!

Bunbaker · 22/10/2013 19:43

Would you be able to share your story? Pregnancy is different for each woman, and for me it would have impossible to tell that I wasn't pregnant - see my post.

ScariestFairyByFar · 22/10/2013 19:46

There was a poster a month or two back that came in asking what the weird blob she'd just passed could be! Sure enough it was a mucus plug and a baby followed shortly after!

Pooka · 22/10/2013 19:48

A friend's sister found out at 8 months. Total shock - but at least she had a month to try and come to terms with it.

atomicyoghurt · 22/10/2013 19:55

For me pregnancy is so hellish I can't imagine not knowing. I'd probably think I seriously ill or dying or something!
OP did you not feel anything like baby kicking round or anything? I'm so curious!

SaucyJack · 22/10/2013 20:00

I think it must be more of a subconscious psychological denial, than genuinely not knowing personally.

Otherwise even if you're carrying quite a placid baby, I just cannot imagine how one couldn't feel that there was a fully-formed baby in there? I got quite fat at one point, but that's nothing like the solid lump of a baby. Just things like not being able to lie on your front.

cn123 · 22/10/2013 20:05

sure, my baby was 6 weeks early but i hadnt a clue, i was in work everything as i thought was normal i picked up a heavy box and my back went this was on the monday i carried on working till 9.30 then went home, back still killing, i didnt get much sleep that night and the tuesday my back was still killing. i phoned in work sick the weds morning as i couldnt sit or stand without alot of pain. My mum took me to the doctors where i got examined she made me bend forwards and backwards whilst touching all my back and stomach i got told i had repetitive strain injury given a load of paracetamol and co-codamol and told id be fine within a week then i was at home later that evening and i felt something drop inside me trying to come out of me with a massive urge to push, came rushing out saying mum i think im having a baby, she replied you mean you think your pregnant and i was like no somethings coming out, she phoned the ambulance it came at 5.00 then i gave birth to a little girl in hospital at 5.15, she was 6 weeks early but absolutely fine :)

the doctor told me she was lying across my spine causing no bump and no movement, bleedings common through most womens pregnancy's and that this type of thing is quite common, i find it weird when most people are pregnant and you see a hand pushing out as i never got anything like that, i think its hard for people who havent been through it to have an opinion because it seems unreal to them but if your on my side the normal side of pregnancy seems unreal.

There is an american tv program about it, each episode is about a different woman who didn't know she she was pregnant. I can't remember the exact name but it was probably something like "Oops! I think I'm pregnant/having a baby!"

bebopanddoowop · 22/10/2013 21:08

wow cn123 thanks for sharing your story it's fascinating how our bodies all carry pregnancy differently - not even your doctor could tell when they examined you!
I'm 15wks pregnant and was desperate to conceive, but had things been different I might have thought my symptoms were an illness (have been v. sick) and that I was depressed (v. drowsy) so far!
Hope you find some people that share similar experiences Smile

DulcetMoans · 22/10/2013 21:09

It's called 'I didn't know I was pregnant'.

I watch a lot of crap! Lol

BlackholesAndRevelations · 22/10/2013 22:23

I find this so fascinating; like a pp has said, the feeling of a baby rocking and rolling inside is unmistakable (feeling it now- ouch!)

I can't believe a doctor who felt your abdomen, didn't detect pregnancy?! Mind blowing!

Were you in a lot of shock afterwards?

Beamur · 22/10/2013 22:29

I worked with a woman whose sister had been pregnant without realising it, she had gained weight (put it down to a party lifestyle) and eventually went to the GP's with chronic indigestion (she thought) and it was a baby...the baby was lying oddly in a very upright position and the pain in her ribs that she thought was indigestion was actually the babys feet digging in! She had about 2/3 weeks to get used to the idea before it was due.

womma · 23/10/2013 08:51

I have no direct experience, but my friend's colleague had this happen to her. The baby came on a Saturday and she had to ring work on Monday morning to say she wouldn't be in because she'd unexpectedly given birth!

That must be a very challenging thing to come to terms with mustn't it? Becoming a mum with little or no warning.
