I had kind of the opposite experience. I got to 6 months pg and knew I was pg, but my GP insisted I wasn't. She said it was all in my mind. And yes, she had examined me, a few times.

Ilovemakeup - and were you??

mrsksays · 23/10/2013 10:50

I didn't know til I was 14 weeks - had absolutely no clue. Put the ONE missed period down to stress. And the tiredness I was feeling I also put down to stress too.

I had literally about one week of light nausea which I put down to it being really hot weather and just losing my appetite a bit.

A week after I found out my tummy popped right out though - would NOT have not known after 15 weeks that's for sure.

I imagine to not know til full term you'd have to be on the larger size no?

lovemakeup - and were you??

DD was born 2 months later.

I find it fascinating that people don't know they are pg, its one of those things that I find hard to believe, I'm not saying people are lying either but it's just one of those things that if you don't experience first hand or have someone close that it happens to you question it. I suppose every ones pregnancy is different but I can't imagine not knowing, it must be a hell of a shock when it happens.

NudeRevengeWiggle · 23/10/2013 11:08

Wow that's incredible, I'm quite worried by the fact that a doctor felt your stomach and didn't realise you were pregnant, that's shocking.

BetterWithCheese · 23/10/2013 11:15

mrsksays I watched that show "I didn't know I was pregnant" and there were definitely slim women who didn't know - they even showed pics of people taken when they would've been around 7 months gone but no bump.

There's this story as well (DM link)

When I found out I was pg at 22 weeks....I had no bump. Several pregnancy tests in the last few months had shown up negative. I was still bleesing and took the pill rwligiously.

3 different doctors had sewn me in that time and not detected the pregnancy. I thought I was dying of some unknown illness....I was sooooo poorly.

I had no idea what a baby kicking felt like.....or what pregnancy in general felt like as this was my first ( and only so far)

I can see how its possible. I know 22 weeks is nowhere near full term....but baby was a fair size at that point etc.

As soon as I found out .....I suddenly had a bump and felt more kicks etc. Midwifes and docs said that its very common....body and mind is in denial about pregnancy so as soon as you know and accept it, bump and all symptoms can appear etc.

absentmindeddooooodles · 23/10/2013 11:20

Oh and I wasnt b8g to start with. Size 8...flat tummy wtc.

She gave me an internal and still told me I wasn't pg. This was in 1987 in a GP practice in Stoke Newington, by the way. Not in the country I live in now.

NomDeClavier · 23/10/2013 12:38

I can see how it might happen - I could have easily not known until 26 weeks or so, no bump until 7 months, anterior placenta, no sickness etc with DS. Not a chance this time but I can see how if you'd never been pregnant before you could miss it.

I know of someone - friend of a friend - who didn't find out until 30weeks or so. She was on HRT for the menopause which pretty much explained her symptoms.

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle · 23/10/2013 12:51

My great aunt gave birth on the toilet. She thought she had eaten too many prunes!
Confused

sarahshaw10 · 23/10/2013 13:32

hi I found out when I was almost seven month. I was still having periods and wasn't so big as to wonder why I had put weight on. although soon as I knew I bloomed with vengeance x

wispywoo1 · 23/10/2013 14:10

my Mum thought she was going through the menopause and was actually 5 months pregnant! Gave birth 2 months later.

Noodles123 · 23/10/2013 20:05

I didn't find out til I was 19 weeks. I've always had massively irregular cycles, had been on either the pill or implant for last 15 years, and only stopped taking the pill 2 months before conceiving - I had assumed it would take a lot longer! I had no sickness, looking back yes had fluctuation temperature but it was the height of summer, and was even more hungry than normal but I am always hungry anyway! I had literally just started to get a small bump that was noticeable, but even now at 30 weeks am not huge and still relatively symptom free although can certainly feel the movement now!

NoComet · 23/10/2013 20:14

Yes

NoComet · 23/10/2013 20:16

Not me, but someone I know well enough to believe 100% didn't know and had good reasons not to suspect.

TheArticFunky · 23/10/2013 20:46

It happened to a colleagues girlfriend. She was a PE Teacher and went into labour during a lesson.

cn123 · 26/10/2013 17:01

My dad was a Dr in A and E and said he used to see this happen. I never believed him until I was on the post natal ward with dc1 and the woman who was opposite me had only known she was pregnant a week or so. so yes, it does happen!
