Im only 33 weeks so far and its my 1st baby so I dont know if its too early to start packing a hospital bag? Im planning a home birth but I know you have to have one ready in case you need to be transferred. When did everyone start packing theirs?

i packed mine at 35 weeks just to be on the safe side.

Snowgirl1 · 21/10/2013 13:01

I think I packed mine about 4 weeks before - which seemed far to early to me, but a good friend kept reminding me that her first had been 5 weeks early and that any birth over 38 weeks (iirc) is considered full-term.

daughterofafarmer · 21/10/2013 13:09

I think I packed my with DC1 at about 37ish wks as one of my NCT friends waters went earlier and I had a small panic about that happening too me Grin it didn't she was late.

If you feel happier packing it, do it. Enjoy repacking it about 300 times before you have the baby Grin

About a week ago and I still have a few bits to add, bump due in 12 days!! I have left it late this time. I think around 35 weeks is a good time to have the essentials all packed then just keep adding other things u think of up to your due date

Excited2meetmyprincess · 21/10/2013 13:11

I packed mine at about 33 weeks because I was very nervous that I was going to go early following early contractions and steroid injections. But I'm still here at 36 weeks x

princesscupcakemummyb · 21/10/2013 14:46

37 weeks i packed mine now 38+2

Mrspebble · 21/10/2013 14:51

I bought a large bag at thirty weeks or even bit before. I had got most things by then. Then bought a few little bits each week. I could have gone into labour ready at 32 weeks ...
I would try and get ready soon.. Least you can relax knowing it is done..

sprite25 · 21/10/2013 15:08

I only really have a few bits for me (breast pads, big knickers and thick pads) so far anyway so I guess I dont need to worry just yet!

I'll be doing mine after 36 weeks as I won't know until then whether I'll be having a CS or a VB.

DanielHellHoundMcSpaniel · 21/10/2013 15:19

About 2.5 hours post home birth when they called me an ambulance for PPH Blush Don't do that.

Faerieinatoadstool · 21/10/2013 16:45

Get it packed just to be safe. I had ds at 32weeks and didn't have anything at all and ended up having to walk round an open ward to nurses station and toilet in blood soasked clothes to ask for more pads, it was awful

purrpurr · 21/10/2013 16:48

Packed a bag for DD when I was 26 weeks, put off doing mine for ages. Kinda realised after a while I had managed to demonstrate clearly my a) massive excitement about meeting DD and b) equally massive terror around the process of having her. I think I bullied myself into doing my bag at 38 weeks :/

PinkParsnips · 21/10/2013 16:53

Started packing at about 34 weeks following a little false alarm that baby was coming early and finally finished it today 37+1

GreenGiant3 · 21/10/2013 17:53

36 weeks Smile x

tgamble13 · 21/10/2013 19:20

a friend at work told me 30 weeks? am goin to buy all hospital stuff and have it ready then actually pack week 35

cravingcake · 21/10/2013 19:27

I started gathering things (a nightie, pants, pads & toiletries) about 32 weeks. I figured if i had to go into hospital quickly or end up staying overnight then at least a few bits were together to save DH having to try to find stuff for me.

I just added to the bag as the weeks went on and started a seperate bag for baby. I was all packed with just a little list on top of the last minute items (drink bottle from fridge, phone charger, camera etc) at about 37 weeks. My waters broke at 38+1.

Hobbes8 · 21/10/2013 19:31

I went for a growth scan at 36 weeks and was told I needed to be induced. They sent me home to "pick up" my hospital bag and I went home and packed it. I had all the stuff so just shoved it in a bag in a slightly haphazard manner, but for some reason got fixated on the fact I needed to take my nail varnish off in case I needed a caesarean.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 21/10/2013 19:38

All done and packed last week. I'm 32 weeks now. Can't contain my excitement so doing it just feels like one step closer.

scrivette · 21/10/2013 19:44

As the contractions were coming every 3 minutes - DH had to finish it for me. I wouldn't recommend it! (DS was only 2 weeks early).

PumpkinPie2013 · 21/10/2013 19:50

I'm 35 weeks and mine is mostly done and has been for about a week. Just need to get a couple of last bits and locate the spare phone charger which I'll do this week.

Not sure why I've done it so early but figure it's good to be prepared!

daughterofafarmer · 21/10/2013 23:03

Found it harder to pack the baby bag as I had no clue what we would need. 1 day or 4 nights, temp in the hospital etc.

I would put aside a pile of smaller or bigger clothes etc in case you need to send DH/DP to collect things. Put a Post it note them, my DH was calling me utterly confused about what was what. 6 hrs post baby EMCS I wasn't really with it either so he brought everything Smile

LongTailedTit · 21/10/2013 23:21

I packed mine while I was on the phone to the midwife, telling her my waters had just gushed broken at 35+5!

I still managed to overpack...

PinkWitch803 · 22/10/2013 00:48

I have packed mine really early (29 weeks) but that was following two significant bleeds which involved staying in hospital. So I needed my own bags sorted and it just seemed just as easy to get the baby/post delivery bag and snack bags sorted too. I might get more bleeds which could bring everything forward and I like to be prepared. As much as possible that is.

I am hoping to not need them for at least until I am 36 weeks and if all is good, just a little longer :)

NoodieRoodie · 22/10/2013 01:25

41+4 and 9cm dilated, when I decided to transfer in from my planned homebirth!

I was only in 6 hours post delivery and I had everything I needed, or thought I did until I got dressed and realised that I'd come in my slippers and hadn't any shoes to wear!!

Mogz · 22/10/2013 03:00

I'm 34+1 and have mostly gathered all the bits and bobs I need, just going to treat myself to some new slippers and a dressing gown. I expect I'll start packing things this week if I can remember to ask DH to get my bag down for me.
