Baby on way

Waters broke last night so we popped to the hospital to get it confirmed, midwife on triage was so lovely, popped me on the monitor and had a quick check. Confirmed my water had gone, said baby is doing well. Had to stay in until 12 as when I got to hospital I was 36 + 6 and classed as prem, but today I'm at 37 weeks exactly Smile !

I didn't realise, but the monitors picked up some contractions, but clearly it's early days. We went back home and got in bed. I really surprised myself by getting about 5 hours sleep! Woke up this morning, baby still moving well, the contractions do seem a bit stronger but if he doesn't make his way today I'm booked in to go back tomorrow at 7 am.

Feeling very apprehensive but also so excited. Wanted to post here as I've had such awesome support and advice during my pregnancy! Any last minute tips are more than welcome too Flowers .

Just back from a lovely walk with the dog and things are stepping up a gear - now officially in ouch territory! Think I'll try some paracetamol and get the tens on standby!

How's it going Gin? Hope that tens is helping.

terilou87 · 20/10/2013 17:30

Oooh come on baby Ginny!
I'm sayin 9:30 ish 7lb12 Grin

Ginnytonic82 · 20/10/2013 18:10

Things seem to have stopped Sad ! The walk seemed to have worked wonders so I had 2 paracetamol and popped on the tens (only on level 2). Certainly felt some bigger and stronger contractions but now it all seems to have calmed off. Bubs is still wriggling away and I'm ready for a nap but I'm feeling too frustrated!

Rest... if labours going to happen, it will happen.

Let us know how your doing. Wishing you the very best of luck!

Mogz · 20/10/2013 19:47

Try to get some rest while you can.

Excited2meetmyprincess · 20/10/2013 20:08

terilou87 · 20/10/2013 20:12

Aww I spoke too soon! Fingers crossed things pick back up soon xx

Ginnytonic82 · 20/10/2013 21:38

Cheers everyone! I'm off to bed to try to sleep. Nothing to report so I will have to see what happens at the hospital tomorrow. Anyone been on a similar position before that can give me an idea of what might happen when I go tomorrow? I've asked not to be induced until after 48 hrs if possible, but does that mean I'll have to stay in til then?

The thing to be aware of is that they'll put you on antibiotics and if they don't get that started soon enough they'll keep you and the baby in for more antibiotics after the birth 12 hours I think. Made me cross with 3rd DD - waters broke 2 days before birth but they still took 2 hrs after active labour kicked in to start the IV. Shift change! But clearly good that treatment given to stop risk of strep b. Don't want to be ungrateful.

Ginnytonic82 · 21/10/2013 09:36

Morning everyone. Not much to update I'm afraid . I did wake up at around 1.30 with strong cramps but yet again things seem to have ceased to a halt! Just back from hospital, baby comfortable and doing well (too flipping comfortable clearly!). The midwife was so lovely and very encouraging about my pathetic little cramps, so I felt less of a failure chatting with her. We've decided to take the full 48 hrs so I'm booked in to be admitted and induced tomorrow. Have to admit I'm feeling a bit rubbish about it all Sad. All the way through I've said I'm happy to go with the flow, but this is a situation I would have liked to avoid. Thanks EAT for the insight re the antibiotics. I have pretty much no idea about what being induced will involve so I'm very grateful for any other advice, stories or tips.

You've still got time for things to start before tomorrow, get your DH to drive you down a road with lots of speed bumps to a curry house and then have some sexy times! Something's got to work!!!

daughterofafarmer · 21/10/2013 11:15

Don't feel rubbish...you'll have a baby soon! Hurrah EnvyEnvy

Rest up...eat pasta x

Ginnytonic82 · 21/10/2013 11:50

Mogz thanks for the tips, went for a drive and I'm mgoing to get a scorcher of a curry later. No sex unfortunately because it's an infection risk, so having significantly less fun bouncing on my ball! Daughter thanks for the food tip I was wondering if I should start eating stuff like that, just to try and build up my energy stores. I'm guessing I won't be allowed to eat once I'm induced? Going to try and focus on how amazing it will feel when baby finally gets here.

When I was in labour DH cooked streak..great, until you need to poo...not a pleasant experience ouchhh! Horribly horribly constipated. Get those energy stores built up..

Ginnytonic82 · 21/10/2013 21:39

Well despite another day of trying everything we still haven't any news. So on to the induction tomorrow. I am bricking it. Really nervous just hoping it works out.

girliefriend · 21/10/2013 21:47

Hi you sound like I was with my dd, my waters went and labour sort of started then stopped then sort of started then stopped - was very annoying!!

The induction process was slower than I expected, they started with some pesseries and that helped move things along a bit, then everything stopped again and after another day and night they then went the full hog and put the IV up.

Hope you are o.kay and things are going the right way!!

Mogz · 22/10/2013 02:39

I'm pretty sure you can eat whilst the induction is happening, m midwife is constantly banging on at me about taking enough food to the hospital to keep my energy levels up through delivery.
Best wish for later, here's hoping you're not waiting too much longer once you're admitted.

Ginnytonic82 · 22/10/2013 08:39

Just been admitted on to the antenatal ward - waiting to meet a midwife then wait for the dr. When I arrived they sent me to the restaurant to get some brekkie, Dh was over the moon, he'll do anything for bacon Grin. Still feeling very nervous but that's because I'm a huge coward and always fear the worstSad hope I can get through this .

OP posts:
Mogz · 22/10/2013 08:41

You will get through, and you'll be snuggling your gorgeous new baby at the end of it all.
