Belly button envy

Ok so I'm 36 weeks tomorrow. Have a HUGE bump (I get the 'twins' comments daily) and my belly button still hasn't popped.

I feel like a failure as a pregnant lady lol.

Why is this? My midwife says I have really strong stomach muscles, could that be it?

Anyone else an inny this far along? I was looking forward to giving it a good clean!

Mine popped and never went properly back.

Count yourself lucky, I say! Smile

FrogsGoWhat · 08/10/2013 21:41

Mine hasn't popped at 38weeks, and didn't pop at all last time.

I rather think it might be a sign of a back to back baby, sorry...

Bejeena · 08/10/2013 21:44

Mine never popped either, I do run a lot (or did pre baby) and hadn't thought about the stomach muscles. My bump was so enormous that everyone thought I was full term from 30 weeks although I had him at 36 weeks

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 08/10/2013 21:44

Mine never popped and I had him at 39 weeks, I was glad I hate outies, my friends didn't either and she was 2 weeks late.

BummyMummy77 · 08/10/2013 21:45

something really?! I'm cool with that. Less time to clean and all.

frogs back to back? That sounds bad..... what is that?

FrogsGoWhat · 08/10/2013 21:47

Back to back means they are facing the same way as you, with their back against your back. If they stay that way in labour it can make it longer, more painful, and probably more complicated.

Yes, DD, I'm looking at you!

BummyMummy77 · 08/10/2013 21:51

Oh so that's when you have a back labour? I hope to Christ not as I'm having a home birth with no option for meds lol.

I'm going to shine lights at my belly for the next month now.

SomethingOnce · 08/10/2013 21:57

Sorry, I mean it went back in but it's not as neat and deep as it was.

My fanjo, you will no doubt be pleased to hear Grin, is in good shape and since you can't have everything, I'm glad it's that way round!

soupmaker · 08/10/2013 21:59

My belly button didn't pop out with either pregnancy. Neither was back to back. I have rubbish stomach muscles as I don't do much exercise. It did stretch open though.

SomethingOnce · 08/10/2013 21:59

You get gas and air at a homebirth, though. If you do it right you can be thoroughly out of it.

Lj8893 · 08/10/2013 22:00

37 weeks and my belly button is nowhere near popping out.

I have always had a really deep belly button, in tightish tops you could see a big dip!

I really hoped it would pop out with pregnancy but no such luck!

MrsHowardRoark · 08/10/2013 22:02

Mine didn't 'pop' with DD and at 26 weeks with DC2 it also shows no sign.

I'm a bit fat there so I always thought that the padding never got too stretched iyswim.

Prefer to think I have awesome stomach muscles Grin

TheFantasticFixit · 08/10/2013 22:04

Mine didn't pop with my first and so far, at 17 weeks with no.2 it's still firmly in place. DD wasn't bak to bak so I don't think it's anything o do with that!

Anothermrssmith · 08/10/2013 22:08

BummyMummy do you want to swap belly buttons? Wink I used to have the perfect belly button, not too deep, perfectly round and NEVER got fluff in it! Now it's half in,half out and freaks me the hell out (I find very few things in life more gross than an outie belly button)

To make it worse, every now and then when I sneeze I feel it pop out a little bit more.

Seriously, you want it it's yours, lol!

Mine is getting better as I go on. From about 36 weeks my belly Hutton was entirely flat (I'm measuring HUGE due to polyhydramnios) but as baby has dropped, I'm getting a definite innie back and now at 39 weeks. Very odd.

BummyMummy77 · 08/10/2013 23:11

Lol AnotherMrsSmith! Popping out when it sneezes sounds like a cool party trick!

something No lovely gas and air for me. No lovely drugs. I'm in the stupid States and midwives have the powers of a knat so aren't allowed to use any of that. I'm allowed paracetamol though lol.

I'd trade off the belly button for a half decent fajita at the end of it though. I've already warned dh it may be 'a bit messy down there afterwards'.

I'm so jealous, mine is like a second nose, and has been since just over 20 weeks. It sticks out a good 1.5 cm when relaxed, and even more when I have Braxton Hicks. It's also off centre, currently about 1cm to the right, but moves to about 3-4cm at times. It's very attractive under t-shirt material..... Hmm

BummyMummy77 · 08/10/2013 23:41

Does it wiggle around? That would be cool!

OP posts:
SomethingOnce · 08/10/2013 23:52

Oh. Oh dear. Well, I'm sure the paracetamol will take the edge off Grin

I had DH assess the damage (small tear and stitches) and draw me a diagram on a sticky note to illustrate because I didn't want to look myself. I still have it, it's rather sweet!

I found warm slightly salty baths very soothing in the first postnatal fortnight. I've since heard these are not recommended but it worked for me.

BummyMummy77 · 09/10/2013 00:03

I've discovered that whipped cream in a can has nitrous in so want to stock pile some hidden in a cupboard so I can sneak in and take hits lol but dh has vetoed it.

That's cute with the sticky note. May get DH to have a peek. He's very concerned it's going to be all loose and flappy.

I've bought a little bath thing that fits over the loo that you dangle your bits in. And lots of Epsom salts and hydrogen peroxide as that's meant to be good. Why aren't slightly warm salty baths advised?

Ooh no! An outie makes me feel a bit funny. (Sorry to those ladies who have popped out buttons) and I am really hoping mine stays an innie. Got 9 weeks to go and it's still in but looking quite flat now so I'm not optimistic. I don't thinking will be able to look at it if it pops out.

SomethingOnce · 09/10/2013 08:24

Can't remember the reason for salt baths no longer being recommended - I'm not sure if it's simply because they're not considered effective, or because they inhibit healing in some way.

Funny, I was going to mention whip-its - popular in the States in the '70s, I believe, and currently popular here but sadly not a wise substitute for Entonox, or wise full stop!

Bunnylion · 09/10/2013 08:49

I had mine at 42 weeks last month and it never popped. He was back to back - but that's very easy for your MW to check just by feeling your tummy.

Franykins · 09/10/2013 10:10

Mine hasn't popped either and I'm massive at 32+4 with twins!
