Course you do, for the same reasons as I stated on the other thread.

Letsadmitit · 17/09/2013 22:57

Yes, some times the dye on the fabrics can cause problems, if it says wash before use is for a reason.

If it doesn't then I would not bother.

scarlettsmummy2 · 17/09/2013 22:57

I did with my first, not with second, unless I wasn't sure of their provenance.

flipchart · 17/09/2013 22:59

I never knew I was supposed to!
I didn't.

No issues with Ds 's now aged 17 and 14

pookamoo · 17/09/2013 23:00

There is a rumour that clothing is sprayed with insecticides etc when it is in shipping containers coming from overseas. I generally wash things before putting the DCs in them.

LoopThePoop · 17/09/2013 23:00

I even wash my own clothes before wearing.
I wash every item of clothing and bedding and towels before use.
I hate the chemical laundered smell/feel of new clothes.

Baby things would be top of the pile to be laundered.

BopsX3 · 17/09/2013 23:00

Yep, i washed everything before letting my boys wear it. Think it was more to do with nesting and wanting everything washed/cleaned/disinfected etc as I washed all the baby clothes when i was blitzing the house just before they all arrived Smile

HorryIsUpduffed · 17/09/2013 23:03

Store rooms are filthy. Factories' cleaning products are fierce.

I washed everything new except when we were in emergency mode and DH was sent to Mothercare for yet more things for DS2 to puke on Hmm

Everything will be washed when it comes down from the loft, even though it was washed and vacuum packed when it went up there.

I wouldn't wash things too far in advance though in case they weren't used, so they could be returned/exchanged if necessary.

DaleyBump · 17/09/2013 23:03

Yes. You don't know what's been on them before they went in the packaging. A lot of manufactures use things like starch on clothes to make them look better, too. Just wash them.

TobyLerone · 17/09/2013 23:06

Yes. Everything -- clothes, towels, bedding, muslins...

I do this for all members of the family.

FamiliesShareGerms · 17/09/2013 23:07

Yes, if only to make them softer than most brand new clothes are

FamiliesShareGerms · 17/09/2013 23:08

And muslins and towels become more absorbent (which is the point of them!) after they have been washed

Fakebook · 17/09/2013 23:14

No.

bridgetsmum · 17/09/2013 23:14

No

katebakes · 17/09/2013 23:33

Yes!

I'm in the same mindset as loopthepoop. Everything is washed before wearing. This is my first baby and baby clothes are at the top of the laundry list :)

Excited2meetmyprincess · 17/09/2013 23:48

Yes I have washed everything and it now feels and smells cleaner and its a lot softer for baby x

PenelopeLane · 18/09/2013 00:54

I wash everything bought new but my main reason now is to make sure they're colour fast! Before DS was born I washed most of his clothes as was nesting and for the reasons stated above, but later forgot to wash one item, forgot that I had forgotten, and dyed an entire load of laundry blue once it did go through the wash. It was a wash of similar colours as well, but the blue of the leaky item still ruined a lot of other clothes in different shades of blue. When I had a small baby and was sleep deprived, it was definitely one of those really low moments of early parenthood. Now I have a system of washing everything before it goes into the DCs drawers, or I am likely to forget again what I have and haven't washed.

Theathdweller · 18/09/2013 01:12

I didn't think you had to. As it turns out you do. DS ended up having a terrible skin reaction to new clothes (along with some washing powders/ fabric softeners). Apparently they spray them with chemicals that keep them looking clean and uncrumpled.

MrsJK · 18/09/2013 07:56

Yes - it's a must when they are tiney

Strangely satisfying to do your first baby wash & put it away Smile

flipchart · 18/09/2013 08:53

So when did it become normal to wash everything first.

I'd never heard of this and did a quick straw poll on FB last night and. This morning and none of my friends knew you were supposed to do this.
I rang up my mum and she never did it either.

Why did nobody tell me!
( but thankfully my now virtually adults son is ok and his younger brother is fine as well!)

Steffanoid · 18/09/2013 08:57

I did but I have sensitive skin and figured ds would have too so everything gets washed first Smile

pudtat · 18/09/2013 09:00

I did and still do. Ditto washing things coming out of long term storage.
