I do, I have sensitive skin so wash all my stuff before wearimg it anyway and is it do the same with the kids stuff.

Foxeym · 18/09/2013 09:01

I too have never heard of this and I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant with DC3. Thank god my 2 DCS age 15 and 12 have survived!!

Ragwort · 18/09/2013 09:03

No, I never did this, wouldn't dream of it. Sounds utter madness to me.

Can't believe people even wash adult clothes before wearing them, have you nothing better to do with your time Grin?

Fozziebearmum2be · 18/09/2013 09:14

I wouldn't wash adult clothes, but am 39 weeks pregnant and thought you had to wash for same reasons already stated. I.e. babies have v sensitive skin and may react to any chemicals used on production.

rattlemehearties · 18/09/2013 09:18

No. My reasoning was that within hours it'll need washing anyway!!

FetchezLaVache · 18/09/2013 09:21

I agree, for all the reasons listed above and the fact that there's nothing like a washing line full of new baby clothes!

midori1999 · 18/09/2013 09:23

No, never washed new things for anyone, newborn or not. I also never use non bio (unless I happen to get it anyway) and I use fabric softener. All children alive and well...

AmberLeaf · 18/09/2013 09:37

The fabric has insect repellent on it.

MrsHoratioNelson · 18/09/2013 09:42

I sew and after an hour or so my fingers feel dirty from the size they use to make the fabrics look good on the roll. They use the same stuff on clothes in shops and starch, so they can go straight on the rails. It's not harmful, just not very nice. I don't wash our stuff first, but I am washing all the baby's stuff. Plus, it makes me feel better. No sun here so no baby clothes on the line looking pretty Sad

LittlePeaPod · 18/09/2013 11:45

Not a scientific response but I would say you should wash them. Consider their journey through the supply chain and what they came into contact with through the distribution/warehousing process:- Raw material shipped (import/export) to Textile manufacturer who then spin it in their manufacturing sites before sending it on to (import/export), clothing manufactures who then run it through their manufacture equipment before packing and sending onto retail/wholesales.

Personally I will be washing Everything. Maybe I am a paranoid new mum to be, I know. Grin

MummyLuce · 18/09/2013 19:13

Tip-wash them only in water, not with washing powder. Do just a rinse cycle. It's what a doctor told me to do to prevent skin rashes in a very newborn

mikkii · 28/09/2013 23:13

With DC1&2 I did. DC3 was an emcs a week before the elcs so had to send DH to Tesco to buy clothes. Then sent him again to buy smaller clothes!

blondebaby111 · 29/09/2013 11:34

What washing powder did u all use and did u use softener??

Hobbes8 · 29/09/2013 11:42

I carefully washed all my firstborn's clothes in non bio when I was pregnant. Then he was born and was low birthweight and completely swamped by all the newborn stuff. So I dispatched my husband to the supermarket for early and tiny baby clothes, which went straight on him without washing. I'll be washing things again for number two, but I wouldn't say it was essential.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 29/09/2013 12:25

Yes I did. DS has eczema so I still do.

spritesoright · 29/09/2013 13:42

Sounds like a make work scheme. I didn't and DD was perfectly fine. Having said that, most of the stuff was second hand from friends who I assumed had washed it.They smelled fine anyways.
