In so much pain.. Advice please?

Hi ladies

I am after some advise please as dont know if I need to contact my midwife.

I am 30 weeks and all weekend I have been getting period type cramps on and off! But last night they were so bad I sat on my bed and just cried! They are in my stomach and lower back. I also have a pain going down to my vaginal area (sorry tmi) but it feels like something is pressing down on it and really bruising it. Then I get a sharp stabbing pain there as well!

I have never had pain like this before and it hurts so much. I have taken codeine which I had for my SPD but even that isn't taking the pain away. But being my first baby I don't know if this is normal or if I need to call my midwife, so was hoping someone could advise me please.

I should also say this isn't a constant pain. It comes in waves and hurts for a few minutes then passes for a few minutes and then is back again. At first it was happening every couple of hours but now its every sort of five to ten minutes.

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance xx

Spoke to midwife and they said it could be more signs of early labour but I can still stay home as they would only give me painkillers if I went in anyway. But if pain increases or I have any loss I have to go straight in.
Its driving me mad now cos they just don't seem to know for sure what it is and I'm so scared and nervous.
I'm absolutely exhausted but can't sleep cos every time I start to drift off I get pains and it wakes me up again!
Sorry for the self pity just feeling so vulnerable and don't know what to do with myself x

I suppose if your waters haven't gone and you're not experiencing any bleeding then you may very well be better off at home, it's very hard to relax and rest in a hospital. Hopefully you can get a bit of a snooze tonight.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I have had a lot more water like discharge (sorry for tmi) but no gush of waters so hoping that's a good sign! X

When my waters broke there wasn't gush, just a steady trickle. There isn't always a gush apparently! I really think this might be it.

CP is right, it's only a small minority of women who get a "gush". About 10% if I remember correctly.

I meant I hope she wrong that this is it. X

I would give them another ring and let them know about the discharge, just to be sure that's all it is.

Just going to take some more painkillers and try and get some sleep and will see how I go over next couple of hours. Don't want to go back in to be sent home again x

Have you let the midwives know about the trickle of waters? Hardly anyone gets a big gush and it's very important to tell the midwife when you get even the littlest trickle as it means there is a slightly increased chance of infection getting in and a sign that things are moving toward labour proper (even though it can take some time). At the antenatal class I went to last week the midwife said to pop in a maternity pad to catch some of the fluid so it can be checked.

I will call them and let them know. Have a pad on anyway. Thanx xx

You must phone the midwife and tell them about the watery discharge ASAP.

These are textbook premature labour signs and you should be being monitored.
I very much doubt they would send you home if they had all the information you have given us.

I can't believe they sent you home.

I would have you in hospital and on a monitor pronto.

Please make sure you have told them everything you have described on here.

It has been several hours now - I think it is time you were reassessed.

Called them and they said to try and rest as much as I can and go in as arranged tomorrow unless it gets any worse and then I have to ring again!! So in bed now just taken some codeine so hoping they will knock me out for a little while.
Thanks for all ur comments and support really means a lot and been very helpful. As this is my first pregnancy I don't have a clue what things feel like and what's normal so thanks xx

Me too, I'll have my fingers crossed.

But it's also worth getting yourself mentally prepared in case you do end up having your beautiful baby a little earlier than you planned.

I had threatened prem labour with DS1 at 29, 31 and 32 weeks (he held on until 38 weeks) so I know how you feel. I was given a tour of the hospital's SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit) which I found really helpful and reassuring.

Hi.
Just home from the hospital. I'm glad to say everything seems ok and baby should be staying out for a little bit longer at least.
I am still in a lot of pain but hopefully it will start to ease.
Just been told to rest as much as possible and see how things go over the next few days and then I will see my midwife on Thursday for another check.
Thanks again for all the messages xx
