More bleeding.....

Hello everyone, I'm 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow and just after some advice or reassurance.

When I was 7+5 I had to have an emergency scan due to some bleeding I'd been having. It was only brown/old blood and thankfully the scan was fine.

However, I have just gone the toilet, pulled my underwear down and staring back at me was blood. It is still brown/old blood but there is more of it than I'd had last time - it covers about 50% of the crotch area.

I've been having a few aches and niggles over the last few days but nothing that I thought was abnormal. Obviously, there's nothing I can do about it at this time of night but I can feel myself panicking....

Try not to worry. This happens more often than you think. I had an Implantation bleed that was more of a bright red gush and had to put one of DC1's nappies in my pants, the same again a week later ( the EPU had warned me to expect more as they'd seen it on a scan but it was still terrifying. Anyway, he's 3.4 now so he was meant to be. Rest up and try to distract yourself with a Dvd or something. It is scary, I know.

terilou87 · 30/08/2013 20:39

If I were you I would ring epu, and remember brown blood is old blood so it might be nothing but you should still get checked out just to put your mind at rest. Brew Biscuit

Writerwannabe83 · 30/08/2013 20:41

I just can see them realistically inviting me down to be seen at 9pm?

I'm leaning towards seeing how it goes and ring them in the morning?

Writerwannabe83 · 30/08/2013 20:42

I meant to see I can't see them inviting me down....

OP posts:
terilou87 · 30/08/2013 20:45

I don't think you will get seen tonight but my epu always say next day no matter how early you ring so better to speak to them as soon as you can.

Writerwannabe83 · 30/08/2013 20:47

Are they 24/7? I've never had to ring them before....

The place where I had my first emergency scan was arranged by my GP and wasn't actually the hospital I'm 'Booked In' at and boy didn't they make it clear they weren't happy about that

The bleeding eased off last night but when I just went the loo there was a patch of brown blood but it seemed a little bit moist as opposed to completely dry.

So I just phoned the EPAU and the midwife I spoke to was lovely. She said that seeing as it is brown/old blood she isn't too concerned and to just take it easy and have some paracetamol to ease any stomach aches. She said that if the pains worsen or the blood becomes fresh then to call again or go straight down - so that's good.

Why can't pregnancies just be straightforward? Sad Hmm

It's terrifying I know. I had several bleeds during my pregnancy and was rarely relaxed and fearing for the worst - but I'm sitting here Breastfeeding my 8 week old Grin. Bleeding can mean nothing, but don't just sit there worrying, make a nuisance of yourself at the epu and get checked out. Smile

Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 11:40

I'm sitting here, desperate for a wee but too scared to go for fear of what I might see. My husband isn't going to be here all day so don't like the thought of having to go to the EPAU alone.....

MortifiedAdams · 31/08/2013 11:47

Thinking of you. I.know it is hard, but just keep positive - brown blood is ok.

Any fresh red blood, please cal EPAU. Ask your dh to meet you there if needs x

Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 12:41

My DH is a good 4 hour drive away and is off with some friends so he doesn't have his car.

I went the toilet and upon wiping there was moist/sticky stringy bits of blood. They weren't bright red but they certainly weren't dry. There were about 3 of them, each about an inch long. That doesn't sound good does it?

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes and don't know what to do.

Hope your ok. I'd pop to epu for a scan if I was you just for reassurance. I went a couple of times due to just worrying and they were very helpful. I'm now 20w and it does get easier

armsandtheman · 31/08/2013 14:12

I bled through most of my pregnancy. It was usually brown, sometimes red and as you describe. I was really quite surprised when she was born alive I was that worried. She is fine though and getting on for 2.

It is awful but if you have seen or heard a heart beat the odds are really on your side. 90% chance all is fine. Go down and get a scan or hear the heart beat so you can relax. Good luck. X

Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 14:17

Are we allowed to just turn up?

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 14:22

Also, I don't know if it makes any difference, but the moist stringy bit aren't falling into my underwear, but jut on the tissue paper when I wipe. They have now gone quite dark, almost blackish in colour?

katrinaxx · 31/08/2013 14:48

I had a mc last year at 11 weeks and I first noticed brown stringy blood so I would defo get checked out xx

Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 15:06

I just called them and the midwife didn't seem too concerned. She has booked me in for a scan on Wednesday morning but that is the earliest they can see me.

FraggleRock77 · 31/08/2013 16:00

It's such a worry. I've had regular bleeds throughout this pregnancy and have around 20+ scan pics to show it's all ok. Try to stay positive although I'm fully aware it's easier said than done xxx

Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 16:15

I'm trying to stay positive. I have been told to just rest as much as possible until my scan, but what do I do about work?

I can't help feel that I was asking for this by being so excited and for feeling so happy about getting pregnant on our first time of trying. I know that sounds stupid.

OP posts:
Makqueen · 31/08/2013 16:16

I am so sorry you are going through this worry again.

No advice, but I really hope everything is ok for you on wed.

Makqueen · 31/08/2013 16:16

Do work know? Is it possible to take time off?

ksksnod · 31/08/2013 16:27

take bedrest/ or dun walk around/ work until bleeding stops.

Writerwannabe83 · 31/08/2013 16:28

Yes my colleagues know - they were great when I had to abandon work the last time I was bleeding. I know my boss will be fine but I will feel guilty about it. Isn't that silly though? I'm actually sitting here wondering if bleeding during pregnancy is a good enough reason to call in sick?

One of my oldest friends who I haven't seen for over 6 months is supposed to be travelling down on Tuesday to stay with me for a few days, I guess that's out the window now.

All I want is a well behaved little Jelly Bean....

OP posts:
Makqueen · 31/08/2013 16:35

Don't feel guilty about time off. Honestly, you have to put yourself first.

Tea1Sugar · 31/08/2013 16:46

Sorry writer. Are you cramping or aching?
