Possible Miscarriage

Hi Everyone... Looking for a bit of advice.

My wife and myself have been trying to get pregnant for 6 years and were having no luck. We went through one cycle of IVF and despite everything looking positive something went wrong with the embryo transfer. Those 2 weeks were hell but we decided to keep trying the natural method.

Yesterday the Mrs tried a pregnancy test and it came out positive with a +3 weeks and we were overjoyed as we had tried everything.

She then said this morning that she had passed blood clots and some light bleeding. It's about time for her normal period and we're not sure if it's the first signs of a miscarriage which would be completely devastating or possibly hormonal bleeding.

We're really worried as we've gone through so much and in the course of a few hours we've gone from joy to being completely gutted in a couple of hours.

Has anyone else had these symptoms and been ok?

Sorry you are going through this. The best thing to do is contact your local early pregnancy or BEP clinics (normally in the local maternity hospital) and they will normally see you to check what is happening. You should be able to refer yourselves or if not your GP can do this.

Really sorry to hear you are going through this. I mc and understand the devastation. I agree with above poster, contact your EPU or GP and get your wife checked out. I have read many stories here were ladies have bleed early in pregnancy and everything turned out ok. I will keep my FX everything works out for both of you

Havn't been through this myself but from sounds of it it could poss be implantation bleeding. A lot of women bleed around time their period would be due from early to late stages of pregnancy. So many women do bleed in early preg and its nothing bad but as others say def get checked out.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for the words of advise and support. We've actually got an appointment with the IVF clinic tomorrow and were going to tell them the good news. I think we'll ask them if they can do some tests. My wife is a bit reluctant to go to the local Maternity Hospital (as she works there) and doesn't want them to know about the IVF, etc but I shall have a chat with her tomorrow when she gets of her extremely badly timed 24 hour shift.

Sorry forgot to add that she spoke to her sister who is a midwife who also reckons it might be normal bleeding but as it's our first time we've had anything positive happen we're just so paranoid that these are bad signs.. Time will tell and we're keeping our fingers crossed. If there is only one good thing to come out of this is that we know that we can conceive normally.

Don't know what to say, except I have read so many posts on here over time from people who had bleeding either early on or all the way through pregnancy and were fine. Unfortunately, bleeding also happens when something does go wrong, but just because you have some bleeding, it doesn't mean there's a problem.
Good luck tomorrow, and try to stay positive for now. As you say, at least you've proved you can conceive now. We have been TTC 3 years, and I had a MMC in April, and now I'm pregnant again, though being really cautious this time.

Hello everyone.
Been told not to worry, easier said than done :) . Scan on 17th. Keeping fingers and toes crossed.

We had what we thought was the scan at 7 weeks and 1 day. When the ultrasound lady asked us how long we thought since conception and we said 7 weeks she said 'no'. More like 11. Which means it's the IVF baby. We're not sure why the pregnancy result said negative after we did the 2 week test after embryo transfer, but there you are.. IVF worked fist time! Also saw baby and heartbeat for first time and the Mrs is a lot less worried. She's just made my buy one of those fetal heratbeart monitor things. The spotting was also due to a tear which is nothing to worry about. We're really happy!!!

Had 20 week anomaly scan on Saturday. Showed severe anomalies on limbs and problems with heart. They think it is more than likely Edwards Syndrome. We are devastated. Appointment on Wednesday with professor of medicine. They are suggesting termination. We are completely and utterly destroyed... So much heart ache and we thought things were going to be ok... They're not.

Oh Vince I am so worry to hear this, how very upsetting for you and your wife after last weeks positive news. Be strong for each other and I will be thinking of you on Wednesday x x

Presently waiting for amnio test to be done. Baby has distal arthrogryposis. There's 3 possibilities. First is syndrome and things will go badly from there hence the amnio test. Second is that baby might not have syndrome and wemight have some Hope of correcting hands and legs when baby is born. Third is that it is degenerative and will get worse. We will await the amnio test and then take the next step. Thank you all for your kind words of support. Vince

Sending prayers and love to you both at this time. So sorry to hear you are going through this.

We'll know on Monday the initial results with full genetic results in 10 days. So much hoping that it is negative. If it is just the wrists and ankles I've heard that they can be corrected with splints and braces. We've also got to see a cardiologist as there is some concern about our little cookies heart. Thank you for your words of support. We have our family and friends supporting us and I hope we will have this baby and we can make sure she has a happy life. We just need to keep our fingers crossed and take each day as it comes. Vince

Vince I've just read your thread with tears in my eyes. I've nothing helpful to add but I can't even begin to imagine what you and your wife must be going through, and just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you both. X

We've just moved hospital as well as we've moved house and the support we've had from the midwives here has been amazing. We've come from supposedly one of the.best hospitals to the worst but in terms of the care we've received it has been so amazing I can't believe it. The biggest problem I have is trying to convince my wife that things will turn out for the best. She had spent the last 4 years as a paediatric surgeon and only sees the worst case scenarios. Have to be strong but it is very difficult.

My dd was born with central arthrogryposis, she was completely stiff. Her condition was probably caused due to genetic reasons, and was severe because her brain didn't form properly in the early weeks of pregnancy. None of this was picked up antenatally. She lived for 13 months and was an absolute joy to us, a real gift. (She died of respiratory failure, nothing to do with the arthrogryposis.)During her lifetime, I did lots if research on arthrogryposis, and many children manage to live full and active lives with splints and physiotherapy.
