Would you go on OBEM?

I am 24 weeks & just had a letter asking if I would be willing to participate in the next series..... On the one hand I thought it might be nice to record it.... On the other hand I don't know if having a camera crew there in labour or my friend/family seeing my perineum appeals wwyd?

Not a chance!!! For me its a fairly personal thing and really only want medical staff and my partner (and maybe my mum) to view me giving birth! And my partner is under strict instructions to stay by my head!

No way. Any television footage can be edited to make you look however the director wants you to look.

Humphrey that's what I thought....the more recent series seem to have more of an "opinion" on whether a couple is good or bad.... I think we may not be interesting enough to provide a good story anyway!

No! Soooooooo tacky. (Not a big fan of reality tv). If you want it on film I'm sure you could get that without putting yourself out there for thousands of strangers to see.

Yes I'm Bristol.... I am mostly thinking no but just interested in other opinions! This is no 4 btw so I sort of know what to expect!

Having given birth 2 days ago, there is no way i would want a camera crew filming my legs in stirrups while ddwas being dragged out by ventouse to the tune of me grunting and screaming, oh and sh**ing myself. A nice waterbirth with pan pipes, maybe but no one knows how its going to go. For me it would be a definite no! Is the pay any good though? :)

No way! Can you imagine watching it back and seeing the midwives and receptionists bitching about you over copious amounts of tea and cake in the staff room?

Plus, theres not a camera big enough to fit my arse into it...

No. My whole antenatal group got asked to be in the first one, but I didn't want to. We're pretty certain there's a point in season one where they're filming someone else, and you can hear me scream in the background though.

Hell no! it's unglamorous enough as it is without the whole world watching it! out of interest, did they at least offer to make it worth your while? have always wondered what convinces people to do it! !

I'm now wondering how they get people to go on it now! No mention of money Mrsmangobiscuit that is fabulous.....your moment of fame!

I definately wouldn't, but there isn't a 'crew' there in the labour wards, they have cameras up on the walls and ceilings and record 24hrs then they filter what they want x

No way!! I'm pg with my first and have watched OBEM since the first series but I couldn't face being on national television giving birth!!!

OMG! Why not? I love OBEM, used to watch it even when I wasn?t pregnant. I think the people that go on it are so brave, especially the ladies giving birth ? what stars! And yes they mostly always have interesting lives. I probably wouldn?t because I?m quite body shy but what an amazing experience it would be. My husband and I have learnt loads about labour watching it and it?s made me feel quite comfortable with the whole idea of giving birth. I can?t think of one situation where the lady giving birth or couple have been portrayed badly on the show ? on the contrary in fact, we can all relate to them in some way or another. If you and your DH are keen ? I say go for it!

Not for me. I do wonder why TV shows like this are still being made. A woman has a baby - so what? Happens all over the world everyday! It is special to the people concerned but why should anyone else care? Far too voyeuristic.

I wonder if you have a chance to change your mind? I'd do it, but what if it ended up being a traumatic event, could you change your mind. That'd be a deal breaker for me I'm afraid.

I had a very traumatic birth with my DS which ended with my legs in stirrups, forceps, failed epidural, 4th degree tear, shoulder dystocia and blood all over the floor. I watched OBEM as part of my mental recoery and it helped to see other people go through the same thing and what the medical staff did etc.

Agree with Ginderella as well. Hate shows like this. It's like they reinvented the wheel. Woman has baby, it comes out of vagina. No shit Sherlock.

No mention of money, no. They wanted "volunteers". I can vaguely remember them saying something about you having a say over what they were allowed to air, but of course they can still edit it however they like. As TinkyPeet says, there isn't a crew there, just cameras fitted to the walls and ceilings, so you can just forget that they're there. I just didn't want to be on TV, especially not in labour. I even dislike having my photo taken. I do have a lot of respect for the women who were filmed though.
