Charley

Esmummy · 31/05/2006 13:49

I would say Charley for a girl.
Great name, it is one of our possibilities for a boy.

dressedupnowheretogo · 31/05/2006 13:49

we are worried with the ly spelling is it Blush CHAV

CountessDracula · 31/05/2006 13:49

Do you mean for a nickname or a real name

oliveoil · 31/05/2006 13:49

I don't like either, sorry!

But if I had to choose one on pain of death I would go for Charlie.

Charley looks made up imo.

Carmenere · 31/05/2006 13:50

the ly is a bit chavvy imo, the ie is fine

ladymuck · 31/05/2006 13:50

But you have just identified the fact that everyone else will probably spell it incorrectly. Only do it if you know that your surname is easy to spell!

dressedupnowheretogo · 31/05/2006 13:50

definate name not a shortening we both love it appaerently the charley spelling is pre war and was used to be for boys !!

OP posts:
Esmummy · 31/05/2006 13:51

I just thought Charlie was boys and Charley was girls

MrsBadgerAvecUneVoiture · 31/05/2006 13:52

ditto OO

would go for Charlotte and call her Charley as an informal nickname only, then at least when she's older she has the choice of using a formal/traditional name or not. ('All rise for the Right Honourable Member for Flydale North, Dame Charley Johnson...' maybe not.)

JackieNo · 31/05/2006 13:55

A friend's DD is called Charlie, and isn't short for anything, but it does feel as if it ought to be a shortened form of Charlotte.

SSSandy · 31/05/2006 13:56

I'm with Mrs. B avec on this. Charlotte, Carlotta, Charmaine (if you like that one)? Charlie looks too masculine to me.

RnB · 31/05/2006 13:57

sorry I agree. I dont like it at all. But is ok as a shortened version of Charlotte

CountessDracula · 31/05/2006 13:59

I would go for Charlotte and shorten to Charlie

(if it were me)

dressedupnowheretogo · 31/05/2006 13:59

her name will be charli/ey jayne so thats why we've not gone for charlotte etc we just need a decision(sp?) on the spelling

OP posts:
robin3 · 31/05/2006 14:00

Love the name for a girl and would vote to keep it simple - Charlie

CountessDracula · 31/05/2006 14:01

ooh no Charley Jayne no no no!!

What's with the y's?

dressedupnowheretogo · 31/05/2006 14:04

my name is spelt jayne thats why we are wondering over the spelling

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 31/05/2006 14:04

Charlie then

MrsBadgerAvecUneVoiture · 31/05/2006 14:04

think Charlotte Jane is lovely myself, but obviously you have to go for something that you like and that you think will suit a woman for the next 70 years.

oliveoil · 31/05/2006 14:06

agree with Badger

but I find that names are very personal and that what I find horrid is someone elses fave and vice versa

I have very boring classic names for my two
