Wow, I'm impressed My induction date though is a guesstimate - it'll be around then but they won't book me in until the last minute.

spots · 14/04/2004 20:06

Kbaby what a star, I have been meaning to do that recently. Visiting april thread made me almost hyperventilate with excitement imagining it all... but I am so sure that the baby inside me will be late... I'm expecting NOTHING on the 7th May, d'you hear me world, NOTHING...Happily, being freelance means I don't compromise my maternity leave but I will be doing the hot sperm curry thing anyway because my personal bugbear is Induction.
Went to funeral today of wife of friend of dh, extremely sad and sudden death. Her lovely children made me think how huge it is to be a parent, and how wonderful to be able to leave a next generation behind you... V. sobering.

Sounds revolting

Linnet I'm very impressed with you wanting to get back to work. I'm so happy to have finished at 35 weeks. Although strictly I am on holiday now with my maternity leave starting at 37 weeks. But I seem to have been so busy over the last couple of days I don't know how I managed to work as well.

Linnet · 14/04/2004 23:51

Oh, Don't get me wrong I am looking forward to finishing work and being at home until December. But the difference between then and now is that I'll be in a routine. Because dd is off on the Easter holidays just now and we went out and bought things for the baby and dh was working I felt a bit down just being in the house with dd all weekend and the weather not nice enough to go out anywhere or being able to afford to go out somewhere didn't help.

Once the baby arrives Dd will be back at school, I'll have time on my own with the baby until dd finshes school at the end of June then I'll have them both during the holidays and we plan on going away on day trips. then dd will go back to school in August and I'll have time alone again with the baby until the October holidays when we are going to go away on holiday. Sadly not to Canada as per my original plans but only as far as London to see family, still it's somewhere different so can't complain.

You got my due date correct Kbaby, well that is the date the hospital have given me, my date is the 8th. But we'll see what happens, will probably be late like it's sister anyway.

Egypt · 15/04/2004 10:08

very impressed kbaby. dont worry, looks like the 2 of us will be trawling the boards looking for company!!

spots · 15/04/2004 11:20

Egypt did your floor scrubbing marathon turn the baby round?

kbaby · 15/04/2004 18:51

I wonder in what order we all have our babies. Itll probably be completely different to the list below. Itll seem really strange marking each one off. Are we all going to join the parenting thread?
Prufrock, your the first of us, youll have to come back to the may thread and give us a update.

Egypt · 15/04/2004 19:29

yes - my floor scrubbing certainly did do the trick!!! went to m/w yesterday and she said it had. Very relieved. Now i just worry that its gonna turn back! Been sorting out baby room all day and putting up shelves - bad back now. I am stupid. But.......jobs to do!

spots · 15/04/2004 20:50

That's great egypt! you are a momma and a half with all your exertions, much respect...

Have had dh's sister and her 3 young children with us today and am knackered. But quite chuffed because she's a dr of midwifery and had a squeeze of my belly... Says she reckons head's engaged!! and also that she wasn't at all sure it's posterior, not to worry etc. Well kbaby I prob. ought to be posting this on your other thread but have started now so will report that I had actually wondered if head had moved down because of dramatic reduction in heartburn recently... am 37 weeks tomorrow but no guarantee of action - will be interested to see what others say in answer to your question but I was under impression that it was more likely that head engaged EARLIER on first pg...??

Georgina how goes? hope your ds is struggling on and you are getting good sleeps...

GeorginaA · 15/04/2004 20:56

I am KNACKERED! Not sure if it's a 34 week pregnancy thing or a "going down with something" thing. Still no spots though (although I think the earliest I would get them is Saturday tbh)

Ds is a lot better, though in major strop/tantrum mode at the moment - really started to push boundaries - probably another thing to add to the mummy exhaustion factor.

Just want this baby out now. Beyond caring how they get it out... if I could book in tomorrow for induction/caesarian/dragging it out by its ankles I think I would

spots · 15/04/2004 21:15

G., I think I hope for you to have some good quiet headspace post-pox and pre-baby, so that you can have a deep breath and a bit of niceness before the birth. Suppose that means that it's maybe not a bad thing if nobody answers your call to get the baby out of you. Or, more concisely, hang on in there...xxx

GeorginaA · 15/04/2004 21:24

That sounds nice, thanks

Bozza · 15/04/2004 21:48

Georgina my DS has been pushing the boundaries recently. I thought he was doing it mainly with me but it has been noticed at nursery and I have seen it when getting together with friends. We were lucky enough to be able to give him extra attention over Easter and do trips etc (know this won't help you) and he seems to have improved. He's been at nursery the last 3 days so will see what he is like tomorrow. Another of the famous hairdressing parties planned - although fortunately hosted by my neighbour....

Linnet I see what you mean. I didn't really like my maternity leave before DS was born. But this time because its only 3 days a week, and I'm so much less organised I'm finding it easier.

Had a bit of a hiccup today. Got a text from a friend today to say that she had seen my MIL last night (co-incidence because last time they saw each other was DH's 30th last August) and had mentioned my hoped-for home birth. Drawback is that we haven't mentioned it to MIL. Whoops! Anyway MIL went on holiday today and will not be back until after midwife visit so should have everything finalised by then - one way or the other!

GeorginaA · 15/04/2004 21:57

Yes, it probably is an attention/frustration at not going anywhere while he was ill thing. He's normally quite a laid back little boy so it's really taken me by surprise and I don't think I've handled it particularly well as a result. Also, we went to a friend's house today where her little girl was being quite naughty and disobedient - perhaps ds thought he'd try the same thing on and see if he got extra attention for it

God this parenting while pregnant stuff is hard work!

Sorry to hear about your hiccup! Is MIL likely to be very anti?

Egypt · 16/04/2004 12:59

thats good news too spots - about the squeeze of your belly! hope it stays that way for you too.
georgina - bless you. hope you get some energy back soon. funny you should say that it may be a 34 weeks blip, but i was absolutely knackered at 34 weeks and now am 35.4 am feeling much better! strange. prob leaving work catching up on me. hey - i am a good girl, have now stained the shelves for our new bathroom - all go! frustrating thing is, dh never says, 'take it easy' or the like. he leaves the house in the morning and says - 'maybe you could stain the doors today, or go to the timber yard and get some skirting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' WHAT is he thinking? anyone else's dh a bit blaze about the whole thing? am putting it down to him being a first time dad and having NO IDEA whatsoever what is involved for either of us. (keep leaving miriam stoppard strategically about - WITH bookmarks in - but no luck there either).

Bozza · 17/04/2004 16:47

LOL Egypt - my DH would never read the books either. Unfortunately IME they get more blase with subsequent pregnancies.

How is your DS now Georgina? DS was surprisingly well behaved on Friday. Especially considering I've been dosing him with calpol for earache. Not sure how it'll go with MIL but she's the worrying type IYKWIM. Still will see m/w tomorrow and take it from there.

GeorginaA · 17/04/2004 17:18

He's been okay today. His spots have reduced to just a few scabs now, but as he's got less spotty he's got more snotty & coughy (is this normal with chickenpox or has the poor mite got a cold on top of everything?!) Been so-so in terms of behaviour - better today but then he's mainly been with dh Looking forward to the start of term.

Day 10 since chickenpox exposure for me. No signs of spots yet, but it's a bit early. Think I was on the verge of depression last night - very weepy and scared, wishing I'd never got pregnant. I feel quite ambivalent about the baby (which sounds a horrible thing to admit to, but after all the complications I've had it's almost as if I'm not getting too attached "just in case". I'd been exhausted and headachy all day, although that could have been due to cutting out caffeine so that the homeopathy treatment had a better chance of working.

Today I feel better, a little bit more energy so I've made the most of it and been on a major chore binge to catch up with all that I didn't do in the week. The business has stopped me from thinking too hard, too which is a good thing.

GeorginaA · 17/04/2004 17:19

Oops... second wink smiley was unintentional.

Egypt · 17/04/2004 19:41

it sounds like you'll escape the chicken pox georgina. so sorry you're feeling like you are. just last night i was feeling very blaze about the whole baby thing. it is scary when i think deeply, about the reality. i can convince myself that i am not ready and have changed my mind if i try. surely its still the same with subsequent babies, and i know you have the c/p to think of. surely its too late for it to have an effect if you did get it isnt it? or am i wrong?

GeorginaA · 17/04/2004 19:50

Depends if you believe what you google, tbh. There's a high risk to me - pregnant women who come down with chickenpox are at much higher risk of complications (the percentage likelihood seems to vary from each thing I read) and with particular complications (such as viral pneumonia) there is an associated maternal mortality rate.

The other issues are if the baby is born within 1-4 weeks (again, depends on what you read) of the infection - they can then get chickenpox which is very nasty for the newborn. Seeing as how I'm supposed to be induced at 37/38 weeks and I'm already almost at 35 weeks, this is a very big issue.

To say that I'm absolutely petrified would be an understatement...

GeorginaA · 17/04/2004 19:53

Moral of the tale: make sure you expose your kids (particularly your daughters) to chickenpox before they are around 12 years old!!!

11 days to go until I'm in the clear

Egypt · 18/04/2004 09:51

bless you. thinking of you

Quackers · 18/04/2004 10:26
