39+5, last couple of days getting some vaginal stabbing pain and more Braxton Hicks, a couple of hours of which were uncomfortable.

Woke at 6.15 this am with a contraction, painful, thought going to the loo would sort it. Didn't! Happened every 5 mins, able to talk through them. Day on ball, walked around, had a bath, getting more painful and moving into my back. Sometimes some mini contractions for 5-10secs in between too. Now they are in my back I can't talk through them, have to breathe and screw up my face and have cried with them a couple of times.

I rang the labour suite and asked if they might be the real thing, they say it sounds like prelabour and were more worried about baby's movements (not really felt it this morning - though have been distracted!!!) So now doing the eat, drink and lie on my side thing. I've felt the baby, I'm not worried.

But these contractions are incessant and make me cry!!! It's so awful in my back! Does this really sound like prelabour? Not sure I can cope with it let alone "real" labour?!! Waters intact (a bit of wee with contractions, oops) and no bloody show. Tiny bit of mucous plug yesterday and day before.

I'm so frightened of this pain coming (I thought I wouldn't be but it's awful) but I think it's because I'm scared the midwife is wrong and everything will suddenly happen.

Anyone have any thoughts? Hubby is on way home from work. I only rang the midwife half an hour ago :(

Agree with the others
I was told take a paracetamol and have a bath with my second. Good thing I ignored them as we left soon after and I had him soon after arriving at hospital

Hope all is going well

UniqueAndAmazing · 27/04/2013 15:23

agree with xigris - make sure you eat and drink plenty.

and make sure you've got some proper food in your hospital bag (not just crisps and chocolates, but sandwiches, cold pizza pasta etc)

Much better! Thanks Stitch. Have a Wine and some [crisps emoticon]

Thingiebob · 27/04/2013 19:37

Oh dear. I hope it is labour. I am currently going through something similar except the contractions are not getting any worse and keep stopping. I have been told it is because the baby is back to back and is trying to turn.

Best wishes.

well, she hasn't come back.
that means tomorrow she'd better be posting with a birth announcement Grin

emblosion · 27/04/2013 23:41

Ooo exciting OP! Hope you are snuggling your lovely baby right now :)

Was coming on.to say this sounds very like my first labour, which would have been v quick had ds's head not got stuck, the pest. I hate that midwives seem to assume first baby = long labour - its not always the case!

plinkyplonks · 28/04/2013 02:45

Is hoping for some good news, good luck OP!

mildred37 · 28/04/2013 07:43

Wow!!!! All those posts! I'm so grateful! It turned out it was a live birth thread!!! Sorry I didn't keep it very live...

I rang again at 13.30 and said I couldn't cope and went in, was 3cm dilated but things progressed fast after the exam! Got moved to antenatal ward for a whole hour and got in the bath, managed a whole two contractions and felt like I was pushing! Back to the bed, examined, 7-8cm, back to delivery suite... She was born 2.5hrs after!

Kaitlin Meadow came out with her arm up next to her head (fingers seen first!) and was trying to crown still without waters breaking so they were broken for me and she came within 4 contractions!

Meconium delivery (perhaps because it was fast) and she's been really mucusy so struggling to feed so we are still in. But she's getting there now. I had a large second degree tear (and man do grazes sting!!!) but the stitching was fine.

I found it quite traumatic, never experienced anything like it and probably because it was so fast and she started off back to back so that was really painful. But she is worth it!

Thank you for all your help and well wishes, they mean a lot. I'm sorry I couldn't keep you up to date!

6lb 7oz of loveliness! Smile

Aww!! Congratulations OP!! Well done! Beautiful name too x

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 28/04/2013 18:06

Congratulations!

From my single experience mucousy is normal. DS didn't feed properly till ed

daholster · 28/04/2013 18:07

Ps For all FTMs... Pay attention to your instincts, try not to panic and stay as relaxed as you can. I had one dose of paracetamol and used gas and air on the delivery suite. The end with gas and air was ok really, it was the preceding bit with no analgesia that was the worst... No one offered the gas and air, only pethidine which I declined, so ask for it! I think I would have coped better with the whole thing if I had it.

Your gut instinct is often the right one so keep asking if you are not sure. Good luck to all those expecting and thank you all! xx

Sorry, phone issues

Till he'd coughed/puked the mucous out. His was also a hand-up meconium birth!

Ask for help expressing and syringe feeding colostrum if you want.

Enjoy your little baby! x

brettgirl2 · 28/04/2013 18:34

congratulations, the early labour sounded like my back to back one but I didn't want to scare you. Enjoy lovely baby Smile

xigris · 28/04/2013 18:45

Oh well done and congratulations! Beautiful name as well FlowersFlowersSmile

OneMoreThenNoMore · 28/04/2013 18:54

Congratulations, and well done! Flowers

Yy to mucousy baby after a meconium delivery, both of mine were meconium births but were feeding well within 24-48hours, keep offering and she'll soon get the hang of it.
