Ffs your GP sounds awful!! Why are they so clueless on this?!

Yes the drops for dd are after every feed. You need to try to coat her mouth and tongue. My tip is to dip your clean little finger into the pot then use that to put into her mouth. Wash your hands! The dropper risks her just drinking it down whereas it has to sit in her mouth...

The daktarin cream is for your nipples also after each feed. Use both religiously and you should be fine.

Also, stop using disposable breast pads with plastic backing as they can create a warm moist environment which thrush loves!!

dieciocho · 29/04/2013 15:15

No bona, I've had the guilt for about 10 years - since I started trying Smile to be a good diabetic.

V. has had white coating on tongue (but not inside her cheeks) for a couple of weeks, but as I use nipple shields, I've not seen anything on my skin...
It might be something other than thrush, right?

mylittlepuds · 29/04/2013 15:59

Sorry it's a 1ml spoon we've got for Pudlet. Is that the same as you Bona? Should I try my little finger with that too?

Will pick up the stuff my my nips ASAP.

Yes my GPs are a mixed bag...I had to remind him to give me bfing friendly ABs last time!

Diec that sounds like Pudlet. GP and HV both reckon probably thrush and best to get it nipped in bud to avoid poor Bona's nightmare Sad

Ouch spotty. Did it wake you or were you up anyway?

Puds - I ditched the spoon and just put a little finger's worth on each time.

I wrote a long post in the night which isn't here, not sure where it has gone. Saw new GP who started off by telling me there was no proof for the existence of nipple thrush and that I'm in pain due to damaged nipples. So I showed her my in damaged but bright pink nipples and asked why they are that colour and why it is so sore. No answer. She's trying me on the daktarin cream with a steroid now...

No more anti fungal tablets tho. She reckons they will have done their bit if they were going to. Angry

BonaDea · 30/04/2013 09:01

That should say UNdamaged nipples...

dieciocho · 30/04/2013 09:17

Are the majority of GPs substandard? Sorry, I know drs. study and work hard, but DP and I have had nothing but fluffy "maybe" diagnoses since we registered with our GP 2 yrs ago.
Would like to change, but I totally LOVE the nurse.

dieciocho · 30/04/2013 09:18

Oh, yeah and not noticing that I was 7 months pregnant!

V's mouth looks like this.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/04/2013 09:56

Well I was only dozing from 3:30 ish and woke properly at six to feed ds and felt a bit low!

Sorry you all seem to have rubbish doctors it seems none of them know or care about breastfeeding or the related issues Hmm

Diec - keep an eye out. Might just be milk. If it gets really thick or even lumpy in places OR you see patches on the roof of her mouth etc its thrush.

I just want it to be over nowSad

RueDeWakening · 30/04/2013 21:46

Evening all.

I'm still arguing with the consultant about her wish to admit me 2 weeks today to give steroids, the diabetic consultant and the obs registrar seem to think I'd be fine doing it as an outpatient, but obs consultant is less sure Angry If they admit me, I'd be in for a week as the section is scheduled for the Thursday and I can't see me being discharged over the weekend. Can't think of much worse to be honest!

In better news, I had an eye appt this afternoon which was all fine again (thank goodness!). Back to see them in 8-10 weeks then hopefully back to standard 6 monthly schedule. Fingers crossed, anyway.

BonaDea · 01/05/2013 01:38

Rue - what a pain.

I only ended up with steroids as I presented with high bp at 36+6 and they have a policy to give them where birth is likely to be before 37 weeks. I was admitted because of the bp but it went down quickly on its own and so it was really the two steroids injections which kept me there.

Only one overnight in the end but I had to keep pestering to be discharged which happened at 10.30 at night!

Anyway, I would simply refuse. When I was in they said they wanted to keep a close eye on bgs but in reality I did all the checks and just reported back. The mws had no idea about diabetes, so completely stupid. As long as you promise to go in if levels consistently above a certain level , what difference is it to them?

And you get loads more rest thsn trying to sleep in a bloody hospitAl and avoid a lengthy hospital stay. At the end of the day they can't force you to be admitted so if you are dead set then just say no!!!

dieciocho · 01/05/2013 09:38

Oh dear rue. I'm the kind of person who wants to say "no", but ends up being obedient! Say "no" - be brave.
What are you doing with your other 2 when you go in?

RueDeWakening · 01/05/2013 10:46

My parents are coming to stay - they'll do school runs etc while I'm in, and DH will be generally chasing around.

Just need to find my nesting instinct at some point before they arrive, to make the house (which is currently a shit heap) slightly tidier Blush

Question for you: did you all harvest colostrum before the birth? If so, how much did you freeze? I was given some 1ml syringes last week by the specialist MW but I'm not sure whether I need to use them all, or get more if I need them, or what. Not back at clinic for 2 weeks now, either, so don't have anyone to contact and ask.

dieciocho · 01/05/2013 14:28

I didn't because was rushed in and thought I had 10 more days!
I expressed colostrum from the time she was 12hrs old, until she was...48hrs old I think.

BonaDea · 01/05/2013 18:19

Rue - I did! And am so glad that I did because the section meant my milk took ages to come in plus t had a tongue tie making it hard for him to feed well at first

I soon graduated onto 5ml syringes which you can buy in any pharmacy and was filling them easily. Think I had about 80ml or so in the end.

I would definitely do it again next time (next time, are you frickin kidding me?!) especially as for us there is higher chance of baby in scbu or with low blood glucose etc.

Meanwhile, T won't sleep. At all. I know that he is now chronically over tired and that we 're in a vicious cycle but at a loss how to fix it!! Had him out in the pram for 3.5 hours or so today and am shattered. He slept for only some of the time and chatted away to himself the rest of the time. He's now in the sling but will have to get him out for some wake time and cluster feeding before trying to put him down. Not sure I can handle another bad night Confused

dieciocho · 02/05/2013 08:31

Wow, T's chatting already? You've produced a genius Wink.
V took at least 10 weeks before she made any kind of chatty noises.
Have you tried a warm lavender-y bath before bed? Or a dummy? Or shushing near his ear (something to do with it sounding like mother's blood flow...)?Or rubbing his temples (tip fro my great-aunt)? Or stroking his nose down between his eyes (tip from my mum)?
Hope one of those helps.

BonaDea · 02/05/2013 10:30

Ha ha. I just mean the usual moans, groans, shuffles, snuffles and general chuntering!

He had a massive 4.5 hour nap in the sling yesterday from about 5 which really helped even tho it meant he got no bedtime routine. I also let him sleep on me. Regression to 2 weeks ago but needs must!

Hoping that if I can get him napping more today we'll be back on track for tonight. Seriously, this is bloody hard!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/05/2013 10:37

We had another bad night. Ds has a cold...

I can't believe he did 7/8/9 hours just before Easter Sad probably never again!

OP posts:
BonaDea · 02/05/2013 15:23

If he's done it once he will again!! He'll be back on track when his cold is better. X

SpottyTeacakes · 02/05/2013 15:28

Oh no Bona he's only had his cold one day. The sleep went wrong over a month ago! Four month sleep regression anyone?

OP posts:
BonaDea · 02/05/2013 16:36

Hmmm. Am yet to get to the good sleeping so don't want to think about regression!!

dieciocho · 02/05/2013 17:27

Don't scare me spotty - mine's 4 months next week and we are currently enjoying our 7-hour long nights very much indeed thank you very much (please don't change, please don't change, please don't change...)

BonaDea · 02/05/2013 17:56

7 hours!!! When did she start doing that and how did you manage it?!

I'm still at the stage of forcing naps- car or pram ride am and sling pm otherwise evenings are overtired misery for all!!
