Disabled parking - was I an utter cow?

Opinions please - be honest, I can take it.

My work base is in a university library. There is one disabled space right outside the front door. There are plenty of standard spaces within approx. 20 paces of front door.

On Saturday, when more or less the entire car park was empty, a car pulled up and parked in the one disabled space. Out got a pregnant woman, probably about 7 months, not huge but obviously showing. Standard policy is to discourage people from using this space unless they have a blue badge, due to recent complaints from disabled drivers. So, I nipped outside and politely told her that this was a disabled space, and did she have a valid blue badge.

To which she pointed at her bump and replied "HELLO, I'M PREGNANT". "Yes, but you're not actualy disabled, are you? This space is for people with mobility problems" was my reply. She snorted at me and charged inside (quite nimbly, it has to be said) to deposit her books and spend a good hour on a computer, all the while hogging the disabled space.

So, was I a cow, or was she just a lazy git? Need to know as I have to decide whether to report her if she does it again.

Agree you should report her if you see her again. Not only selfish, but clearly unembarrassed about it which suggests she's doing it all the time.

I was hit by a car when I was pregnant - luckily not too badly hurt but was on crutches for a while. Walking hurt but I would never have stolen a disabled place.

My Father has MS and as such I take him shopping every week. He has a blue badge for his car and drives with me to the shops.
He always parks in disabled space as he can't walk far. To look at he seems 'normal' (sorry by this I mean he doesn't look like he has a disabaling illness). A pregnant woman came over to my Dad and had a go at him for parking in a disabled space as he was clearly not disabled. My Dad explained that he had MS and couldn't walk far and would be using one of the supermarkets wheelchairs when he got inside.
She said he was talking crap and if anyone needed the space it was her because ahe was pregnant!!!!
For the record I am pregnant too so it really did take all my strength not to ram my trolley into her legs!!!
Sorry not completely relevant I know but needed the rant :)

What a cow!!! This makes me so cross, my mom and my best friend both have MS and it's all they can do some days to get from the car to the shop or wherever they are going and they need the spaces, in fact if there is no space then my mom will go home, sh will also go hame if she has forgotten her badge and she won't have one to display, even though it's blatantly obvious that she;s very disabled. I've been pregnant twice and on crutches the second time and I would NEVER park in a disabled space, they are for people who need them, not people who are too lazy to walk an extra 10 metres Angry

Badhair, I'm glad that you challenged her, I wish that more people would take your attitude when supervising car parks.

What a selfish cow she is! If I had my way I'd report everyone who parks in a mother and baby space and doesn't have a young baby/ buggy etc... IMO they're not for ten year olds out shopping with their mum. Sorry, saw that yesterday and it made me v cross to say least!

GarfieldsGirl · 27/04/2006 20:33

badhair - well done for challenging her, and definately report her. Like she's the 1st woman ever to be pregnant?????

my dp has blue badge cos he can't walk after accident at work but when people see us in the car with 2 LOs they give us such filthy looks cos they think we're young and lazy and shouldn't be there.

anyone who abuses a disabled bay is just selfish, rude adn has absolutely no respect for anyone else.

Peachyclair · 27/04/2006 21:08

Lazy git. I can't even have a badge with Sam even though i think I should have so I don't park in these spaces coz i don't meet the rules.... she's just up herself

Peachyclair · 27/04/2006 21:09

(erm but Sunnyside, mother and baby spaces are my only hope with Sam- he scratches other peoples cars if he gets to them first, I need the space)
