I tend to be a bit under cautious and assume everything is okay, and am just wondering if this Is this normal? I'm 41+2 and over the last couple of days have been loosing my plug.
Today my discharge has got a lot thinner and is contains a lot of bright red blood. I'm just not sure if bright red is bad, my plug was darker old blood and looked like the photos on Google.
So is this expected as part of labour or in the run up, or should I be a bit worried and call antenatal? Baby is moving as normal and midwife was happy with growth/heartbeat earlier in the week and she did a sweep then.

Can you call maternity ward to ask for advice, best be on the safe side and put your mind at rest.

CanIHaveAPetGiraffePlease · 29/12/2012 10:01

This close to labour I'd ring antenatal ward/clinic to be honest. Good luck!

(ps I'm not medical!)

Def ring labour ward and get checked out xx

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 29/12/2012 10:04

Go in now. This could be a sign of placental abruption which is an emergency. It may well be nothing but take no risks with placental abruption.

Dillydollydaydream · 29/12/2012 10:06

It could just be a show - I had quite a lot of bloody show with ds1. However, it's definitely worth ringing and getting checked out to make sure it's not something to worry about.

SJisontheway · 29/12/2012 10:10

Please please go in and get checked out immediately. Chances are all is fine, but don't take any chances

Ring triage. They will probably want you to come in and you will know for sure.

Good luck

beckie90 · 29/12/2012 10:17

My plug contained bright red blood, but please go and get checked cause it could be something else, just to be safe xx

DrRanj · 29/12/2012 10:17

Yes you need to go in. Placental abrupt ion may be a risk. Baby needs to be monitored.

MyDaydream · 29/12/2012 10:25

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just called labour ward and she said it sounded like labour was starting but to keep the eye on the bleeding and if it gets heavier or less stringy to call back so I can go in.

I guess it depends how much blood, but more than a tablespoon full I'd be playing it very very cautiously. Good luck! :)

BurnThisDiscoDown · 29/12/2012 12:56

I had bright red blood when I went into labour with DS (also at 41+2!), I was terrified at the time, but they says it was because I dilated so quickly. So I hope you're not too far away from the hospital! Grin

sparklekitty · 29/12/2012 16:29

I had bright red blood when I lost my plug, rushed into labour ward to be told it was just my plug coming away, was another 2 weeks before dd arrived.

GrumpySod · 30/12/2012 10:06

update?

MyDaydream · 30/12/2012 10:29

I came in to be monitored last night after having reduced movement and I'm now in hospital waiting to be induced but having some contractions so hopefully won't be too much longer.

GrumpySod · 30/12/2012 12:05

Ooh! Exciting! How do you feel about what's happening?

MyDaydream · 30/12/2012 12:15

I feel fine, induction was booked for Thursday next week anyway and I was getting miserable still being pregnant so it's worked out for the best.

OP posts:
GrumpySod · 30/12/2012 12:19

Good :). What have they told you they'll do for the induction?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 30/12/2012 12:22

If you are getying the drip ask for an epidural even if it feels ok at the start.

Good luck :)

MyDaydream · 30/12/2012 13:25

I've had my waters broken and they're leaving me to bounce about/walk/stay active for a few hours then seeing if I'm ready to go or if I'll need the drip.

How far can you walk, just around the hospital? I think I'd walk for hours & hours if it were me (nervous energy). Aim for 100 laps of the hospital perimeter, or such. And then a nap this afternoon if no progress.

MyDaydream · 01/01/2013 09:29

Just a quick update to say I gave birth yesterday morning by forceps due to babies heart rate dropping when I contracted. Very glad I came into hospital rather than ignoring things thinking it was all okay. Thanks everyone for the advice.
