Oh dear, I was asked how tall I am/dh is and also what size me feet are. I had an 8lb 13 baby. Realised afterwards they suspected he was a big one. Stop eating all chocolate! I read afterwards that big babies are sometimes caused by eating easily absorbed sugars in the last trimester! Good luck. Sorry - you may not really have wanted to hear that!

  • how tall are you???
Littlefish · 27/03/2006 19:21

I'm 5ft 9 and was told at every midwife visit that my baby was over the 90th centile (when she measured my bump). She told me the baby would be well over 8lbs, and probably nearer 9lbs. As you can imagine, I was somewhat concerned about the pushing bit!

When dd was born she weighed.......... 6lbs 10!

Just ignore any talk of size of bump = size of baby. I don't think I know anyone who was given information which turned out to be accurate!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 27/03/2006 19:23

The reason I ask how tall you actually are is because if you're quite short (think it's under 5ft) you're classed as slightly 'higher' risk when it comes to giving birth - can't remember the ins and outs of it all but I remember something about it because I'm a short ar*e

gingernut · 27/03/2006 19:42

HRHQoQ is right, and I was asked both times at booking in appointment. It's just because short stature can be linked to small pelvis size. I'm a short ar*e too Grin.

nulnulcat · 27/03/2006 20:10

im another short arse with small feet and small pelvis but ex was only a shortie to so we wernt going to have a big baby anyway

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 27/03/2006 20:30

hehe GN - I had my first booking in appointment at 20 weeks with DS1 (had been abroad so hadn't bothered/couldn't afford it out there) and she measured me - I ended up jumping aroudn like an idiot when I discovered I'd grown a whole 2cm while I'd been living in the sun - first time I'd grown for nearly 6yrs (and I was 21 at the time Shock)

5"2

NomDePlume · 27/03/2006 20:53

5" 7'

DD was 7lb 1oz, born at 37.5 weeks (so pretty much full term)

amber5 · 27/03/2006 20:55

didn't know that - but hey I'm 5'2 and had two c-sections Wink

Elf1981 · 27/03/2006 20:56

5ft 8, dd was 8lbs 13.5

sometimes the height is asked for, the weight is measured to give the body mass index, as over a certain amount is a risk under anastetic (terrible spelling, sorry!)

bump = baby is rubbish. Also tall = big baby. My mum is 5ft 2, had three kids, I was the biggest at 10lbs 3, one sis was 9lbs 12, the other 8lbs 11

Hulababy · 27/03/2006 21:02

I am 5 foot, again with small feet (size 3.50. Dh is 6ft1. DD was born by c section, after faied induction at 42 weeks, weighing 6lb 15oz.

helsi · 27/03/2006 21:04

I am 5ft 6.5 and dh is 5ft 11. DD1 was 8lb 8 but I was told she would be bigger than that. No coment made on this pregnancy yet!

blueteddy · 27/03/2006 21:04

I am 5ft 6. DS1 was 8lb 5oz & DS2 was 7lb 7oz.

MumtoBen · 27/03/2006 21:09

I am 5' 10" and my baby was 6lb 9.5ozs. Friends keep saying I would have a big baby. A midwife in the hospital said baby size can be due to the birth weight of the parents (I was 7lb 7oz and husband was 5lb 10oz), which maybe accounts for my small-ish baby. The only other thing I have noticed is that the taller women I know have had smaller bumps than the short women. I guess tall women have a longer length abdomen to accommodate the baby.

MummyToToby · 29/03/2006 14:43

is it true that if your mum gave birth to small/big babies you will too?can anyone support or not support this?

MummyToToby · 29/03/2006 14:43

muma3 how heavy was your lo?

MummyToToby · 29/03/2006 15:42

helsi? how heavy did they estimate your baby would be?and was this taken from measuring your bump or what?

MummyToToby · 29/03/2006 15:45

sorry i keep forgetting to put things in my posts lol. one last question - i promise!! anyone had a baby LARGER than was estimated?

Gem13 · 29/03/2006 15:47

Midwife said DS would be around 7. He was 9'11...

I'm 5'ft 8, when I had my last visit with the midwife I asked how big the baby would be because someone had commented that I wasn't very big.. [being hormonal I was a bit fed up with the comment] The midwife said it would be an average sized baby... [whatever that is]
I went out and brought lots of first size baby grows and clothes. DD arrived bang on time weighing...8lb 4oz... she was the chubbiest baby with these massive wonderful fat thighs... and the midwife struggled to fit her in the babygrows I had taken into hospital...

the moral of this story is don't listen to anyone!!!
I was about 6lb at birth..

oliveoil · 29/03/2006 15:56

I am 5'9" and am normally around 9.5 stone, was about 12 stone in pregnancy.

HUGE bump, all at the front, both babies were big - 9lb 10oz and 9lb 5oz. First was a section, second vaginal birth.

Doesn't matter if it is big or small, it will come out!, don't worry.
