Dry cream crackers and a big glass of milk. Works for me! :)

DH swears by apples or apple juice when he gets heartburn but I haven't tried it when pg.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 30/09/2012 10:01

I know exactly how you feel. I do have Rennies though. Sometimes milk helps. Otherwise I'm as stuck as you.

AliceHurled · 30/09/2012 10:02

Drink milk.

MrsMiniversCharlady · 30/09/2012 10:03

A teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in half a glass of water

soapnuts · 30/09/2012 10:05

oh i forgot about the milk - I'll try that one now. Don't have any dry crackers, apples, apple juice or rennies!! I think I need to go shopping!!

thanks all!

Love Hearts :)

AlisonDB · 30/09/2012 10:21

Toast or dry bread to help soak up the acid, and a big mug of warm milk, (i find cold milk can be slightly unsettling)

soapnuts · 30/09/2012 10:27

mmmm lovehearts!! I did try some jelly beans and they helped for a while (or maybe just a distraction!)

Milk is keeping it at bay for now but am def going to put a glass of water and bicarb next to my bed for those horrible middle of the night heartburn crises!

Also try this move...stand a meter or so away from kitchen worksurface or something with similar height and bend over so back is parallel to floor. This gives the baby room to move off all the abdominal organs and can help...also anything on all fours.

whenhenshaveteeth · 30/09/2012 10:34

celery

Pochemuchka · 30/09/2012 11:11

Last night I had a revelation - this is my 3rd pregnancy and I have had the worst reflux throughout all of them. Nothing was working so I spent about 5-10 minutes cleaning my teeth (!) after that I was fine enough to go to sleep.

Will be trying it again tonight when reflux inevitably strikes!

CitrusyOne · 30/09/2012 11:21

Can second cleaning the teeth- has helped me in the evenings no end. And I have found that drinking water in the night makes it worse. Rennies make it better. I'm sure that giving birth will make it even better. 2 and a alf weeks and counting...........

RecklessRat · 30/09/2012 18:33

Fresh lemon juice squeezed ino a glass of water.

It sounds weird, but it really works. The acid in the lemon turns to alkaline when it hits the water.

Much cheaper and nicer than Gaviscon. I drink it every night before going to bed and it's really helped.

Finbert · 30/09/2012 18:36

Milk gives me the worst heartburn! My sis said polos worked for her. I'm downing gaviscon, like the sound of the lemon might try that

zigwig · 30/09/2012 19:30

Carrots. Freshly juiced carrot to drink is best but munching on a raw one may help.

whatsinthebagangelos · 30/09/2012 20:53

Not food but I find Tescos own brand indigestion tabs way better than gaviscon, cheaper too!

AliceHurled · 30/09/2012 22:04

Whatsin if you're pregnant you should get gaviscon on prescription, so free. You shouldn't have to pay for it.

whatsinthebagangelos · 01/10/2012 16:55

Oh right thanks I didn't know that Smile

AlisonDB · 03/10/2012 14:50

How much gaviscon is safe to take, i am litterally living on the stuff now, i have the tablets which i carry every where with me. Then a bottle by my bed for in the middle of the night, and im not measuring im just drinking straight from bottle, the sugested normal doses just dont touch the sides!!!

AliceHurled · 03/10/2012 15:44

I was told as much as I liked. It messes with my bowels though

CakeBump · 03/10/2012 15:59

Use lots of extra pillows to keep the acid down, and don't eat or drink anything for 2 hours before bedtime.

Really helped for me.

MrsHBaby3 · 03/10/2012 17:04

ive raised the top of my bed with bricks under the legs if that makes sense, and drink gaviscon from the bottle :-)

soapnuts · 04/10/2012 01:39

ooh forgot to report back. Milk works if I drink a cup before I go to bed but the surprise winner (in a sense!) for me was the bicarb in water! It tastes horrendous but even one gulp really seems to help so I'm sold!

I'm going to be copying all the advice on this thread cos I've still got 12 weeks to go so know the burn is only going to get worse - and I'm abroad so can't get the usual remedies here.

thanks all
