Sainburys pregnancy tests - does anyone know what this could mean?

Right, well, I got a pregnancy test from Sainsburys yesterday. Two of them for less than 4 pounds seemed like a good deal and I have a sneaking suspicion because although I'm two days off the day my period is due I'm not getting those usual warning cramps that I'd normally have started getting five days ago. Anyway, I got home and took it. They work by making a cross shape in the test window for a positive result, and a horizontal line for a negative, and there's also a control window. Anyway, as soon as I took the test the horizontal line appeared, so I thought it was negative, but when I looked closer a minute later there was a very faint and considerably skinnier line going all the way through it, making up the cross but very very faintly. My partner said he couldn't see it so I shook it off, but I looked at it a couple of hours later and it's definetely there, but it doesn't really look like the other line apart from it being the same colour as it's much skinnier. Do any of you have any idea? I'm starting to feel cramps now but I honestly can't tell if I'm iminagining them or not =S

A line is a line is a line, imo and ime. The hormone concentration might be low as you're still 2 days before your period is due hence faint line.

Congratulations Grin

megadeth92 · 18/09/2012 00:56

Can it be a lot skinnier though? That's what I'm confused about. positive line is skinnier, but it's where I would imagine the line starting... =S

I think that sounds like a positive. Try testing again in 48 hours and you should get a stronger result.
Congratulations?

winnybella · 18/09/2012 01:00

Right, so the horizontal line would appear anyway (whether a positive or negative result) and the vertical line crossing it is the 'real' test result iyswim.

Now any line, faint or not, will mean that the pg hormone is present in your urine. You can't get a faint line if you're not (or have been recently) pregnant.

winnybella · 18/09/2012 01:02

sorry, meant you can't get even a faint line if you're not pg

In a few days and with morning urine, the line should be more apparent.

Most importantly, are you happy with the result?

megadeth92 · 18/09/2012 01:04

I'll take the other test in two days. I just wanna find out asap. Thanks everyone (:

I'm a bit shocked at the minute lol. I'm just gonna see what it says in two days and I might go to my doctor before then. It's a blue dye test and I've heard they can be a bit unreliable, but I'll be back in two days and let u all know lol (: Thanks for ur messages

Good luck - it is a very shocking moment when you get a positive test... I was absolutely floored by it, even thought we had been trying for some time.
Take care of yourself.

HaveALittleFaith · 18/09/2012 08:50

Yes the line can be skinnier, mine were until about a week after I got my first BFP. I couldn't wait and retested every day!

ImPeppaPigOink · 18/09/2012 09:03

I used the same tests.

I did one and it was the same as you describe. I was on the Mini Pill and never knew when my period was due so I thought it was either wrong or too early.

I did the other test a week later and it came up a very dark positive. It was the first wee of the morning and the test was saying positive before I left the bathroom.

I'm now 20 weeks pregnant :)

fraggle28 · 18/09/2012 10:37

If you cant wait id recommend the clearblue digital ones that come up saying pregnant or not pregnant then how many weeks since you conceived.

I got a positive result with them 6 days before my period was due, i just knew!

I used those tests and, if I remember correctly, they're blue dye tests. I got the very thin verticle line too, on both tests, but I was not pregnant. I don't think the blue dye tests are reliable - get a first response test and try again.

chezziejo · 18/09/2012 17:19

Hi. I did a sainsburys one and got a skinny line 4 days before I was due. We weren't trying either but I felt very strange and having had ds recognised the feeling. Anyway I did a clear blue the next day and it was saying pregnant and 3-4 weeks, hehe that's what you get for not paying attention to your periods. I'm 30 weeks now.

CandyPop · 18/09/2012 17:55

I used the sainsbury one and had the same faint line 2 days before I was due. It was so faint I thought I was seeing things. Bought a clearblue digital later on the day and got a positive. I'm now 31 weeks :)

Congrats :)

megadeth92 · 22/09/2012 01:12

Well the second one was definetely negative, but still no sign of my period. Puzzled lol.

I had the same thing with my sainsburys test. A very faint second line, so faint I didn't really believe it or work out if I was imaning it. I took another type later and it was def positive, I am now 30 weeks pregnant.

mumof3maybemore · 23/11/2012 19:06

i took the sainsburys test this morning and got a very strong vertical line in the indication window and the horizontal line is much less visible. I've heard lots of different opinions on these tests so im a bit confused. The horizontal line that shows the test is negative is much fainter than the vertical positive line. i hope i'm making myself clear!!
i've got some clear blue non digital to try but what is everyone's thoughts?

weeblueberry · 23/11/2012 19:30

Definitely do another test in 2 days if you've not seen your period by then. But do remember that after a certain time, looking at the test can be a waste of time. They're often only reliable for a certain period after you've used them and you can get false readings after a time - so when you went to look at the line later it might have appeared stronger over time.

I obviously don't want to burst your bubble - definitely try a Clear Response Digital that tells you exactly how far along you are Smile

lightrain · 23/11/2012 19:37

Also remember that at this early stage, if you test in the afternoon there may not be enough hormone in your wee to get a positive, even if you are pg. Best idea would be to get a pink dye test (morrisons own are pink, and about £3 for 2. Or first response early response if you don't have a morrisons) and try again in the morning with your first morning wee.

mumof3maybemore · 23/11/2012 20:26

I should have added my period is a week late. I'm just trying to not get my hopes up. Thanks for your replies :-)

Cookiep123 · 14/11/2019 00:31

Hi all!!
Someone help!!
3 days ago I got this Sainsburys test and am I seeing a positive line?!
I then do 2 tests 3 days later with Tesco and get negative!

I’m due tomorrow?!

Could I be???

Sainburys pregnancy tests - does anyone know what this could mean?
Kinsters · 14/11/2019 00:54

Hmm that really does look like a positive Cookiep123 but if you were pregnant then you'd expect to have a clear positive on most tests three days after getting your first BFP. Do you know when your period is due? Maybe try getting a FRER as they're supposed to be the most sensitive tests available.

ambs245 · 22/09/2020 22:25

Cookies did you end up pregnant? X

AJaneAJ · 23/09/2020 13:24

Can someone please help me out? Evap or bfp?!
