Baby has turned, have been 'signed off' by consultant - now I have no reason NOT to have a homebirth and I am nervous!

So I finally saw the consultant yesterday and he told me the baby was a good size, low and now headfirst. He said I seemed very healthy and should have no problems with a homebirth - to enjoy it and he wouldn't see me again unless any complications arose.

So now after having a few weeks thinking I may have to have a c-section I am back in the homebirth arena - and petrified!

Positive homebirth stories please, especially ones that happened after a traumatic hospital birth...

Enid definitely get a pool.
Apart from the fact that it is really effective in terms of cofortable labouring, it gives your DH something to faff around with as soon as you go into labvour. Esp if you get an inflatable one - inflating it, filling, temperature control, ensures that your DH enjoys an 'active birth'. I am very un-new-agey but thought the pool was essential. Ball or bean bags are good - I knelt leaning forward on bean bags throughout labour. But had cheap Argos beanbags which didn't have washable covers, so one had to be chucked due to amniotic fluid stains! A ball is wipe-clean...

yes think I will get a pool, even if I use it for 10 mins I expect it will be worth it - even if just to help if I feel a bit panicky and need to change my environment if that makes sense.

Just worrying a bit about money now (maternity leave looming!)

I used a ball for most of my home labour - it was really comfortable sitting and rocking on it.

Also, Enid, a hot water bottle. I could not have got through my home labour without a hot water bottle jammed into the small of my back.

and again, even if you are not new agey, get some massage oil....i got really disheartened at one point, and my midwife massaged me with grapefruit essential oil couple of drops in a massage oil base and it really did give me the strength to carry on as well as relieving some of the pain....

Straws to drink water through. I always made absolutely sure I had these in the cupboard by 8 months pg at the very latest, Essential piece of kit.

Get Cherry cake. I ate a whole cherry loaf just before transition. Then called for DP to come quick as I was about to throw up, and pass the bedroom waste bin. For some reason he thought he should empty out all the tissues, amnio-soaked panty-pads, general debris...and tipped the whole lot into the mw's birth equipment bag.

Blu, am struggling to see why that's a recommendation for cherry-cake!Grin
