In the sense that I haven't been since Friday!

Anyone got any fail safe tips to get things moving?

Tins of prunes in juice are good. Drink lots of water. .. Keep active...

phoenixrose314 · 29/08/2012 07:04

Oh, how I feel your pain... It was my birthday two days ago and I spent the whole day writhing and moaning with pain because I hadn't "been" for 3 days. Eat more wholewheat & fibre, and I've been having a pint of orange juice a day too to get things going. Make sure you're drinking enough generally.

Good luck!

CakeBump · 29/08/2012 07:11

Walk the dog.

I always need the loo just at the furthest point from home.

You can borrow my dog if you don't have one :)

ThreeWheelsGood · 29/08/2012 07:17

Drink a lot of water, walk a lot, sit in a squat position for a while.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 29/08/2012 07:21

Warm baths sometimes work for me?

jumpingjackhash · 29/08/2012 07:23

A mug of warm prune juice, works every time for me!

EmpireBiscuit · 29/08/2012 07:36

Does prune juice come in a carton like orange juice? And be found down the juice aisle?

Surely to the dog - as long as it doesn't poo....him going and me not would be unfair. Does he come with little bags to pick up any accidents (from either of us)?

Fibergel sachets - get the orange flavour. 2 of those a day plus dried apricots/prunes etc will help to get the poo out.

LauraSmurf · 29/08/2012 07:53

I tried everything listed above, the only ring that worked for me was 1/2 pack of movicol a day for whole pregnancy. Twas a life saver! At first I used 1 sachet to 'free up' my system!

Ask you GP I got it on prescription but I think you might be able to buy over the counter for now.

Good luck!

Liquorice! I know its a bit 'marmite', but I love it and it helps me get moving, as does yoga and my current obsession with eating satsumas and tangerines.;)

kittysaysmiaow · 29/08/2012 09:03

I made a batch of prune muffins. The recipe is on the BBC good food website and they are called 'feel good muffins'. (sorry can't do a link as on phone). I upped the quantities of prunes and now eat one of these a day as well as a bowl of bran flakes first thing. This seems to have sorted things out-before I started this regime I hadn't been for a week!

DeathMetalMum · 29/08/2012 09:03

Dried apricots are good. As well as plums and nectarines for me. I seem to be going from one extreme to the other every couple of days at the moment.

BabylonPI · 29/08/2012 09:04

Syrup of Figs Grin

Takes bloody awful but by god it works Wink

SecondHandNews · 29/08/2012 09:26

6 or so dried apricots. I find them better than prunes or figs. But I think each to their own a bit in this context Grin Good luck!

CakeBump · 29/08/2012 10:14

Just wear wellies and kick it into the hedge Empire (for either of you :) )

scentednappyhag · 29/08/2012 10:28

Little bit of shower gel on your finger, rub it just inside your bum. Not as tasty as the orange juice and muffin suggestions, but has never failed to get things moving for me Smile

Prunes and prune juice. Movicol if things get really desperate.

Prune juice is usually in a glass bottle as opposed to a carton. From memory it's in the juice aisle (the aisle where the drinks are not refrigerated).

Good luck!

RikersBeard · 29/08/2012 11:00

Orange juice with bits in to get things moving. Also lactulose.

EmpireBiscuit · 29/08/2012 13:36

Shower gel up bum will only be administered if nothing has happened by the weekend.... Shock

Been to the pharmacy and was given lactulose, I'll try prune juice in tandem and hope for some explosive results. Things are bad.

The Lactulose will work a treat but be warned, it makes you very farty. I say that from bitter experience Blush

TruthSweet · 29/08/2012 13:47

Lactulose is an emetic for me so I resort to senokot max (it still takes 2-3 days to get anywhere though Blush).

If you haven't been for a week you may find you need to 'breathe' out your 'baby' when you do eventually go (it'll be good preparation for birthing your actual baby I promise!) as pushing can hurt a lotShock.

imustbepatient · 29/08/2012 13:49

Dried apricots and activist prune yoghurt on weetabix for breakfast really helps me!

Want2bSupermum · 29/08/2012 14:00

I would be careful with liquorice. When I was pregnant it made me vomit in spectacular fashion and I ended up at the obn office on a drip. Obn told me that it was on the do not eat list of foods (hadn't been to the dietician at that point!).

While pregnant I drink hot water with lemon every morning. If I haven't been for a day I fill up the kettle and make myself drink a whole teapot worth of hot lemon water.

After DD was born the nurses had me drinking black decaff coffee - 1 cup three times a day. It did a great job....

phoenixrose314 · 29/08/2012 15:50

Let us know what worked for you, Empire... though perhaps not in graphic detail ;)
