Hiya

I'm thinking of buying a Tens machine to attempt to cope with DC1s birth in October.

Does anyone have any recommendations of what to get? I know you can hire them is that the best option or should i just buy??

Thank you!

I used one with my first labour. I decided to buy as was pretty confident I'd use again for backache etc and a future labour. Lent it to a friend and never got it back and am pregnant again with my second.mive bought one from eBay which was advertised as not used, some people just don't like the sensation. Used in any case is not a problem as the new pads can be found online easily. You need to ensure its a labour tens you buy as these have the all important boost button which you need for contractions

. There are tons of different makes and models but a new one can be found for around £35 and it's yours to keep, to rent they are usually around £29.50 for the 6 week period of when you may go into labour.

I loved mine and used it and gas and air to get me through my first labour which was induced. Would definelty recommend one

Watching with interest - a model recommendation would be greatly welcomed! :)

I hired one from babytens.net- £20, including return postage. It was fab, had a boost button for when the contractions really ramped up- I wore it from start to placenta, about 20 hours on one battery Grin
(no I don't work for them I was just really impressed!) Wink

I have just received my tens machine (am 37+4 now), haven't tried it yet but was £40 to buy off Amazon and looked like one of the simplest to use:

www.amazon.co.uk/Bodyclock-Health-Care-Relief-Machine/dp/B001DDZBHK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344955595&sr=8-1

I figure if it works then will use for next baby, hubby also gets back pain. You can also order spare pads through amazon as well

I bought an Elle Tens one, just because that was the model I'd seen at antenatal classes. I bought as I knew my DSis was expecting a few months later, and so at the v least I could also lend it to her. In fact I found it really helpful, so should be using it again in the next couple of months (you've just reminded me I need to order some new pads - thanks!).

I used Elle tens for both DSs. You can also get spare pads in Boots. If you think you'll have more DCs then probably worth buying rather than renting; as izzybizzy says, ebay is worth a look. And if you don't get on with it, you can flog it on there too!

I rented an Ellen tens. I loved it. Definitely get one with a boost button for use during contractions. Managed labour with just that and a couple of paracetemol.

I can see how some people wouldn't like the sensation though but, for me, it provided a welcome distraction.

Don't know the brand name but I rented from Boots website. LOVED my TENS with both births. Did use any other form of pain relief. Will be renting another for baby no. 3 due in Oct - should have bought a brand new one first time around, it would have worked out cheaper!!!
