Is this the start of labour?

I am 40 + 2, last night I had period like cramps that continued to this mor ing. Now I've got up and I'm walking around a bit it's lessened.

I also think I've had a show, (slightly pinky mucus, bit stringy sorry for tmi!).

I feel pretty well in myself bar the uncomfortable feeling and still packed DH off to work (to his disappointment!)

So, what do we think? :)

Sounds like it could be to me, and how mine started but still another 4 days! How are you feeling now? X

Stinkyminkymoo · 13/08/2012 17:46

Pretty try much the same to be honest! Am secretly hoping it will hold off at least until tomorrow afternoons have the vet coming for my horse in the morning!!

After that, I hope it hurries up! Grin

I think I had similar about 3-4 days before I went into labour last time round. However my 'show' TMI ALERT* was like a big jelly-like plug and totally unmistakable when it finally came. Good luck x

Hehe stinky you sound like me! I'm a horsey girl too and remember wanting my labour to hold off until after the physio had been, I was lunging with contractions every 10mins with my husband in a complete panic!

Ha ha! I know Miggle, it's bad isn't t! It's just he's 18 mo and been on box rest for 2 months with swollen growth plates do I've been pretty worried about the little chap and he's hopefully going to be my dressage superstar! so would really like to be there for the next lot of X-rays.

Re the show, I haven't had anything else except bad period like cramping. Not fun. Sad

Oooh it could be, but it may take a while yet. Try and rest, double check your labour bag, maybe have a bath to ease the aches.

Keep us posted!

Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 01:11

The cramps are still going and I'm really uncomfortable Sad

No much else bar the pain. Is this normal?

definatlylosingmysanity · 14/08/2012 01:16

Hi i hope you don't mind me jumping in but do you have any idea how often the cramps are and does the bump feel tight anywhere ?

Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 01:48

Ps, there are no other symptoms, no back ache, nothing. Sad just massive pain with no time frame, sometimes an hour, sometime 15 mins. Normal?

Baby seems fine in there though.

OP posts:
Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 01:58

The cramping lasts for about a minute 15.

Things are definitey revving up!!

Actually if I were you I would take 2 paracetamol, & drink a big glass of wine & go try to doze off.

Betcha can't, though.
Yes sounds normal. Can be very low key until last 2-3 hours.

lljkk · 14/08/2012 02:00

thing is, this could stop suddenly or it could rev & rev up. That's why getting rest is good if you can.

My MW said to ring when the pain reached "toe curling". Are you on toe-curling, yet?

Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 02:12

Last gap between 13 mins.

Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 02:14

Paracetamol. Good idea.

Not toe curling yet... V v uncomfortable though!!

definatlylosingmysanity · 14/08/2012 02:17

yes its normal i had this with ds 1 and 2 and for me it was the start of labor taking 2 parcetamol was always advice given to me and when the pain gets too much for that i was told to ring and go in.
if you find you can't lie down to sleep sitting with a cushion or pillow under you legs but not your bottom (if that makes sense) may be more comfortable.
hope this helps Smile

SkipTheLightFanjango · 14/08/2012 02:18

OOhh..wish I didn't have to go to bed..sounds like you are well into the early stage of labour. Good luck. Try to rest, if you can, and gt to the hospital when pains are regular, at the most 6 mins apart!

lljkk · 14/08/2012 02:33

Go earlier if you want an epidural, go later if you want a low-intervention birth. But we were told to phone first, anyway, they will talk you thru & try to save you a trip if poss.

I must be off to bed, too. Will check in the morning. :)

Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 03:04

Trying to get some sleep whilst monitoring too. Argh, it's going to really hurt isn't it?!

OP posts:
Musomathsci · 14/08/2012 03:12

Don't worry about monitoring while trying to sleep. If you need to be awake cos something is happening, you will be, trust me!!
Good luck

Stinkyminkymoo · 14/08/2012 07:53

So now it's the morning and it's only happening about every 30 odd minutes. Weird.

Do you think it's because I got up and am walking about. Srsly confused!

OP posts:
MiggleMoo · 14/08/2012 08:38

Yes, honestly labour can be the most frustrating thing in the world, on tv they get a sudden contraction in the middle of the night and off they go - reality quite a bit diffierent!
Mine went like this, on the wednesday - mucus plug, on off contractuions every 20 - 30 mins, eased when I walked about got worse when I lay down (cue NO sleep!!), on the thursday carried on with contractions building in strength, same friday, still the same saturday (I had had no sleep at all by this point!). Saturday morning waters went, still no more than 15 mins apart for contractions, all of saturday into sunday. Sunday morning induced due to waters going. For completely other reasons ended up in theatre early hours on the monday, son born a total of 4 1/2 days after contractions started.

I am sharing this as an example of the fact it can take a long time and because mainly I didn't take the opportunities to rest when I could because I thought it was all starting and was excited/ nervous etc soo my advice is rest, rest, rest (even if you're not sleeping) and trust me you'll know without doubt when its happening! I wish I had rested more and not been so focused on counting time between contractions etc as when my son finally arrived I was almost too exhausted to notice!

Good luck and keep us posted! :-)

lljkk · 14/08/2012 08:49

I had long hours of sporadic ctx before mine were born, too.
Rest up as much as you can, go for a walk when you can otherwise :).
