When the baby kicks can it be painful at times?

Oh yes. Tends to be later in pregnancy when they can get some real welly into a kick right under your ribs where you can't poke them back :)

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 26/07/2012 11:20

Oh yes! I got a belter last night! But usually, no. And when it does hurt, it's for a second or two, in my experience Smile

sammyleh · 26/07/2012 12:30

I'm 27 weeks and not had any really painful kicks yet, just uncomfortable. I'm sure they'll get stronger and painful later though!

ItsMyLastOne · 26/07/2012 12:38

Definitely! I found the most painful ones were when it was feet in one direction and hands in the other direction. Ouch!

SummerRain · 26/07/2012 12:41

Yes!

All three of mine perfected the art of bracing their feet against one side of the womb and shoving their bum in the other direction.... I felt like I was being ripped in half! And the rib kicks and fanny kicks are really wince-tastic too.

Jemsx · 26/07/2012 12:57

Without a doubt! My little one would give David Beckham a run for his money with her kicks. Ouch!

Stateofplay · 26/07/2012 13:29

Yes, and when they do a somersault in the womb it makes me feel extremely odd. Baby movements in utero are the oddest part of pregnancy for me.

backwardpossom · 26/07/2012 14:06

Yes, DS used to stick his foot right under my ribs and it was really sore!

NeedlesCuties · 26/07/2012 14:54

Yes! This baby seems to enjoy trying to hook her toes up under my ribs like a bat hanging from a roof. Not nice! Am 36 weeks and remember DS doing them same when I was pregnant with him.

SarryB · 26/07/2012 15:02

I used to find it painful when the baby was spinning over from one side to the other, and he also used to do a rather firm punch to my lady garden.

trikken · 26/07/2012 15:19

Yes.some of them were eye wateringly painful at times.

Chunkychicken · 26/07/2012 16:26

Definitely. At the anomaly scan, junior kicked at the probe just as the sonographer was pressing in to get a good image - Shock ouch that hurt!!

It also feels very uncomfortable when it seems like they're stretching as far as they can, pushing their head out one side & legs out the other.

JennerOSity · 26/07/2012 16:31

ah yes the stretching! I was awoken once feeling like I was being split in two, I look down to see my tummy looked like a swan's neck with a french baguette sideways-on shoved down it!

Most alarming visually and sensation-wise. I woke Dh saying 'ahhh look, bloody hell!' Hoping for sympathy - He was all grumpy, didn't even glance at it and rolled over. I hated him in that moment! :)

BikeRunSki · 26/07/2012 16:33

Yes. I remember trying very hard not to grimace or yelp when interviewing graduates at 33 weeks pg.

shimmy0 · 26/07/2012 16:39

As painful as all that sounds, it also seems very funny! Are the massive pushes and kicks frequent or infrequent? How many times a day on average does it hurt? Lol as I've had respite now from the migraines etc for about a week or so, yesterday the vomiting started so before this I thought I was gonna get it easy but now I realise I've to deal with vomiting and later kicking lol I'm just thinking its about to get a whole lot worse!

I told OH a while ago that I'll be wanting to try for no 2 at the earliest opportunity after this one, but right now I'm thinking omg no way! So I'm hoping it's twins so I can stop!

NotGeoffVader · 26/07/2012 16:44

I didn't get kicks, I got star-jumps!

oikopolis · 26/07/2012 16:48

I get those massive stretchy brace-feet-on-one-side-and-push-like-the-dickens type movements usually when I'm lying on my side to sleep. I think he gets pissed off that I'm squashing him a bit. Not that I can lie any other way! If I could I would, I'm so sick of being on my side!!! (I'm 32 weeks)

DH went chalk-white when he first saw/felt it happen. lol.

It happens 4-5 times a day for me, once or twice during the day and then a few more times when I'm lying down to sleep.

But other smaller movements are pretty much constant. Every 5-10 minutes probably, except for late morning-early afternoon when he seems to slow down a bit.

JennerOSity · 26/07/2012 16:51

I didn't find myself having pains from kicks very often at all, so I wouldn't worry.

The kicks are usually cute and sometimes funny! When this one does somersaults it feels like I am on a rollercoaster with that squiffy washing machine tummy you get! Grin

I did find I had to sit up straight a lot towards the end or my ribs felt rather squashed and uncomfortable, so if you don't have great posture now it is probably worth strengthening your posture muscles now before you get to that point, but that was only right towards the end. :)

mnistooaddictive · 26/07/2012 16:55

When dd2 turned at 36 weeks, it felt like shewas kicking her way out! Very painful.

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2012 16:58

Going against the grain, I would say no...but summersaults are annoying, especially if you are trying to go to sleep/

ArtyJennie · 26/07/2012 17:30

Another one agsinst the grain here- I've never felt any pain from kicks. Loads movement- defo- but no actual pain/discomfort. Sometimes the kicks can make me jump as they are big, lots of squirming now and hiccups 3/4 times a day. My dd1 is 4 and I'm 36weeks prego.

DanyTargaryen · 26/07/2012 17:45

Yeah when they give you a good boot in the ribs, my dd had a lovely habit of sticking her bum right out on one side, that got quite uncomfy and used to have to try and move her but she used to do it for hours at a time, made for a strange looking bump I can tell you!

SummerRain · 26/07/2012 22:56

Dany Grin I used to prod them in the bum til they stopped Blush Or if that didn't work wobble it from side to side so they lost their grip and move position really quickly so they couldn't do it again.

In fact my pregnancies were pretty much characterised by my constant battles against contrary babies (nothing much changed after they were born tbh!). My dad once sat and watched in Shock for three solid hours as ds1 wriggled and squirmed incessantly. I was 36 weeks and flopped in a chair and my dad was across the room and he could clearly see my belly shifting from side to side without a seconds pause.

By far the most painful of all though was at around 30 weeks with dd when she turned head down for the final time and got fecking stuck half way round (I was extremely slim before the pregnancy and had only just started showing so she didn't have much space). She was lodged like that for 2 hours and I thought I was dying Blush

whatsoever · 26/07/2012 23:29

More uncomfortable than painful for me. A big kick or somersault makes me feel like you're on a rollercoaster & your stomach is momentarily in your mouth.

DanyTargaryen · 26/07/2012 23:50

Summer she was as stubborn then as she is now :o if I managed to get her into a different position more often than not she'd go straight back!
