What can't we wait for mumsnetters?
I can't wait for snuggly newborn smelling cuddles & seeing all my beautiful outfits on my beautiful baby!
Come on... I'm feeling positive and brave tonight!

I took 7mo DD swimming the other day with DH and me and him took turns to disappear under the water and burst out at her and the belly laughs we were getting were unbelievable. And watching her little frogger legs going in the water too was a high point.

When we came home I said to DH that I hope I never forget that afternoon.

SQUEEE! Looking forward to all of these things so much Grin

My friend has just given birth this morning and my head is buzzing with all of this new stuff like those listed above that she has coming to her over the next year and beyond.

New babies are such a gift.

pictish · 26/07/2012 09:00

No...you absolutely won't regret it.
Very few people ever regret having their children.

CrazyRandomHappenstance · 26/07/2012 09:03

Pickles wait until the first time you tickle her under her chin and she squeals with delight, your heart will melt, nothing makes me happier than hearing my girls laugh.

CrazyRandomHappenstance · 26/07/2012 09:05

Oh and their first crazy statement, took DD1 2.9 to a friends house yesterday, first thing she said was "lets get this party started" lol

anklebitersmum · 26/07/2012 09:08

When they crawl into bed with you at 4 in the morning mumbling half asleep "want a cuddle with you Mum" curling tightly into you despite the sweltering heat.

shimmy0 · 26/07/2012 09:20

I am pg with our first one, and still quite early but I can add that when I told my mum she was going to be a grandmother again she was screaming and laughing and crying so I suppose those special moments between mother and child don't stop after the kid stops being a kid :-)

DanyTargaryen · 26/07/2012 09:23

My one year old dd has started giving 'proper' cuddles and it is the best feeling ever :)

YY to tickling them for the giggles!

wanderingalbatross · 26/07/2012 09:54

The dancing is so cute! DD (1yo) has some musical toys, which she has just started turning on herself so that she can dance to the music :)

And yes to giggles too, especially when you've just done something that you thought was really mundane, that turns out to be hilarious. Like putting something in a box, or putting a hat on!

Spice17 · 26/07/2012 10:03

Just cried all the way through reading this, so real now I'm not far away but still can't actually picture my LO.

This had made me feel very excited and emotional - and so much nicer to hear than, 'you'll get no sleep, will feel low, your life will never be the same' blah, blah, blah!

Pickles77 · 26/07/2012 10:07

Me too spice Smile glad everyone likes this threadWink

Feeding - looking down at baby when they're contentedly feeding and their little jaw is going and you can feel their body relax into the feed.

DS's first joke, age 2 - oh, you're a little sausage DS - no, I'm a burger! I went around boring people with that one all day.

FireOverBabylon · 26/07/2012 10:23

Agree with shimmy0 as well. I had one person run across the room to give me a hug and three people cry when I told them I was pregnant, including one colleague I only knew slightly but who had a little girl and knew what it was like to have a new baby. They just bring so much joy to people around them.

elizaregina · 26/07/2012 10:24

the first night with her in hosp, although soo tired - just looking at her was amazing, so oo magical.... and then after getting her home, the morning waking up and there is this amazing little person there - it wasnt all a dream she is real and here!

SwissArmyWife · 26/07/2012 11:01

Their little heads and cheeks that you could rub your nose and lips over all day, because it's the softest and sweetest thing in the world.
And when they get panicked when they're hungry, their little mouths wide open and their heads going all over the place - and then that instant calm when you've put them on the boob/bottle and they just settle in to you.

First smile, first clap, first giggle, first time they roll over, first wobbly, dainty little steps. When they get to the excited stage and just constantly wave their arms around in that cute jerky way.
The faces they make when they try new food!

One of my favourite things about my DD (now 15 mo) is when you ask her where her belly button is and she'll stop whatever she's doing, lift up her top and point to it. Or her impressions of animals - they make me laugh every time!
Or when you tell her no and she strops off and slaps her arms down to her sides in complete defiance, and then comes back seconds later with a smile on her face.

People say it's hard, and it is, but for every hard moment there is always a special/proud/funny moment to make up for it.

It is so true that you could never imagine having so much love for one person.

Three and half months to go until I have my second, and already DD comes up to my belly and strokes and kisses it :) Children are incredible.

minipie · 26/07/2012 11:52

Oh, thank goodness for this thread. I have been reading baby books and some of them Gina bloody Ford make it all sound like such an ordeal to be got through. I really needed a reminder of why it's all going to be worth it!

lalabaloo · 26/07/2012 11:54

Aww you've all made me cry! My baby is 10 weeks, its all amazing, I love it! When it gets hard, they do something really cute about 5 minutes later that makes it all worthwhile

Barbielovesken · 26/07/2012 12:01

My 2 year old comes into our bedroom every morning, with his wee sleepy head, rubbing his eyes and always exclaims "How-wo!!! I missed you!!! - snuggles?"

Its a nice way to wake up.

WeeLors · 26/07/2012 12:18

Oh stop, you're making me cry with all the loveliness.

So glad to read this today, been feeling sorry for myself cos of the extreme tiredness of being heavily pregnant whilst running around after a 2.5yr old (whose cutting his very back molars so is a twiney-bum and waking up loads in the night).

Reading this has reminded me just how heart-meltingly, mind-blowingly, spectacularly wonderful my DS is. He's the funniest, most affectionate and adorable little boy who has developed from lovely newborn squidgyness to being his own little person with such a fantastic personality. With each stage of his life I just love him even more (starts sobbing again). I can't wait to meet his little brother when he comes just to experience it all again Grin

Your DD will be the best thing thats ever happened to you Pickles, I can guarantee it - I'm not surprised you're so excited!!!

P.S. - I can't list what I can't wait for, all of the above and more, there's too many things to mention

WeeJo08 · 26/07/2012 12:58

This is such an amazing thread. I am expecting my first baby and this has just had me in tears from start to finish! I have my 20 week scan tomorrow afternoon and have been anxious about it but this thread has really made me happy. Thank you Pickles for starting it

newby2 · 26/07/2012 13:03

Oh what a lovely thread. I absolutely love when my 2 year old throws her head back with her feral unruly hair flying around, laughing so hard you she can't make a sound.

Beautiful squidgy legs, belly and arms and her kindness already. She gives you a cuddle and pats you on the back for reassurance.

Oh and every-one will go along with this- their wonderful individual smell. I could bury my head in her neck and take long deep sniffs all day! Best of luck with your baby.xxx

kate2boysandabump · 26/07/2012 15:41

Seeing them in their hospital cot and despite being more tired than you've ever been, you can't stop looking.

My boys leaning to crawl, they both rocked backwards and forwards to get momentum up, then launched forward.

They're 6 and 8 now, and I love hearing what they think of the world around them and how they get it spectacularly wrong sometimes in their innocence.

DS2 'Why do I need iron?'

Me 'to keep you healthy.'

DS2 'But how do I eat metal?'
