First Sports Day, I was in tears from being so proud! Blush

"Mum, mum, mum, mum, mum......"
"Yes, DS?"
"Er.......I LOVE YOU!"

The newborn bit. I love it when you pick them up and their little legs curl under and their bum sticks out. I love the wrinkly fore head thing they do and tiny baby toes.

Pickles77 · 25/07/2012 20:18

See...makes you melt Smile

Sticky hands clasped in yours.

The feeling when they wind their arms around your neck and cling on tightly.

And the chubby little wrists and knees!!

rogersmellyonthetelly · 25/07/2012 20:29

The little grunts and sighs, the woody woodpecker head nodding they do when hungry, wrinkly forehead, soft baby skin, newborn smell, the cute bum sticky out thing, that first gummy smile, perfect little fingers and toes. That funny look of concentration they have when they are working on a stinky nappy......
The list is endless. Everything they do (except cry wee and poo) is adorably cute.

Pickles77 · 25/07/2012 20:32

Newborn squidginess.
Cute outfits.
Seeing the look on relatives faces when they hold her.
Toddler squeals of joy - its just a puddle!
"hiya daddy" whenever I walk back in the room (no DD I'm still Mummy)
Running up to throw herself into my arms grinning like crazy.

TheToadLessTravelled · 25/07/2012 21:08

Seeing the world through their eyes, as they are amazed by everything.
Newborn sneezes - they look so shocked!
Quiet times snuggled up for a nap, I can watch ds sleep for hours.
When they start to really interact and make baby 'jokes' like offering you half chewed food then snatching it back laughing, playing peekaboo etc.
The fact that life will never be boring or predictable ever again!!!!

Wildwaterfalls · 25/07/2012 21:46

What a lovely thread! First time mum here so not sure what to expect, but can't wait for all the above. Have also read on boards here that newborns sometimes make cute snuffly sounds - looking forward to those too!

osterleymama · 25/07/2012 21:53

When they laugh it's the nicest sound ever. The first 20,000 times you hear 'mama', newborn smell, watching your partner with them, sloppy toddler kisses.

StateofConfusion · 25/07/2012 22:17

On sunday my 3yo dd told me a wonderful story of her friend Luke from school, he has a horse and elephant that they ride on, real ones mummy. Dd does not go to school or know anyone called luke.

The newborn squidyness is the best, wrinkly foreheads and totally agree with the bum out knees up pose when you lift them, its scrummy!

I needed this thread my 3 and 5yo have done nothing but terrify me about our 3rd arriving in december, school hoildays and a broken down car meant a rather 'heated' day.

But listening to them giggle and play outside then go to bed without a peep reminds me why I do it! :)

MrsHelsBels74 · 25/07/2012 22:20

Even now, every time my son gives me a spontaneous kiss or cuddle it just makes me melt, I never get tired of it.

Hearing him laugh, listening to him singing, hearing the little stories he tells himself, watching his little bare naked bottom running away when it's bath time...I could go on & on but I'll try & stop now.

MrsHoarder · 25/07/2012 22:25

Those first gummy grins.

poocatcherchampion · 25/07/2012 22:35

Oh the smell the snuffles, the midnight farts that make us crack up, the squirming, the way their faces light up when they see you.. I could go on and on...

Pancakeflipper · 25/07/2012 22:40

The big laughs they do from their tummies.

Rhubarb78 · 25/07/2012 22:42

Baby babbling and 'singing' so cute.

MollyMurphy · 25/07/2012 22:46

"Mummy!" followed by a laughing run into your arms for a hug.

Oh that is the BEST thing in this world.

GnocchiNineDoors · 25/07/2012 22:48

When they learn what a kiss is and lunge at you, mouth open, and lick your face.

When they first dance along to music even though they dont know what dancing is or why its making them jig up and down like that.

When they learn to drink out of a sippy cup.

When you watch them attempt to pick up a peice of fruit from the tray and after three failed attempts just lean over and lick it.

TalcAndTurnips · 25/07/2012 22:52

Bedrooms knee-deep in floor-drobe.

The EU Crockery Mountain here in my house.

Competing for their attention - and losing - with twitphone/laptop

etc. etc.

Only joking Grin

Hmm

Actually, I loved every stage. The most amazing moment for me was when my eldest laughed properly for the first time - I couldn't believe that that sound had come from her! She hasn't stopped laughing since.

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2012 23:02

I have a 5yo and a 10mo so will have to tell you the best things about them right now. Otherwise we'd be here all day because every new stage seems to be better than the last...

DS...

He's just walking and holds his arms up and out for balance and concentrates so hard until he's about a metre from me and he rushes forwards giggling and shouting 'cuggle mama'.

Holding up his arms to be picked up and snuggling in to my shoulder when he gets there.

How pleased he is with himself every time he learns something new. He claps himself and shouts 'yay'.

Laughing in his sleep. He did this from his very first night on earth. It's a proper Mutley laugh.

DD...

Oh she's so big. She knows so much and loves learning new things. She tells me brand new information to her with such fascination.

She writes notes to me, draws pictures, makes bookmarks etc all with declarations of 'love you mama!!!!!!' I keep them all.

The ways she flies out of school, hair wild, clothes skewed, chattering too quickly and thrusting piles of pictures at me.

How she adores her little brother and can make him laugh like nobody else can.

She's just good and kind and interesting and curious and funny and bright and big and she sits curled in her armchair reading her book with those ridiculously long legs tucked under her and I love her with a ferocity which scares me.

Ohhhhhhh you have it all to come. I adore both of my dc immeasurably but I had dd first and she made me a mother. You won't believe how much you could love another being.

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2012 23:04

Oh yes the day the rhythm gets them. That's a good one. A song will come on and they wil just stand there, legs bending rhythmically, big nappied bottom bouncing along, arms conducting an imaginary orchestra and completely unable to stop themselves enjoying the music.

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2012 23:07

Oh and you can see their brains working. I remember the day ds encountered Three Things for the first time. They pick up one in one hand and one in the other and then stop. And look. And then look a bit more. Then they look at their hands. Then they look at the third object. And they drop one of the first two and pick up the third. But then they look again and realise they're still short by one object. So they give up and bang the first two objects together and laugh. Grin

BourbonBourbon · 25/07/2012 23:10

What a lovely thread Smile

My DS is 6 months old and I spent several minutes just watching him sleep earlier, just in a nappy, bum in the air, snoring just like his dad. In that moment all the difficult hours of actually getting him asleep were worth it. I don't think there is anything more beautiful on earth than watching your baby sleep.

kdiddy · 25/07/2012 23:20

DS is 6mo so still shiny and new but so far I would say...

First real, big, beaming, mouth wide-open grin
Chattering away
When I pick him up because he's crying and he stops straight away
Giggling - he has a really dirty chuckle!
Baby kisses, which are mainly mouth open slobbery chews of my cheek
When I lie down next to him and he rolls to face me, and falls asleep touching my face
How pleased with himself he looks when he does something new
Rolls of baby fat - chubby wrists, ankles, legs, cheeks ...
Mainly looking at him in wonderment thinking 'I grew you!'

It is hard, unbelievably so, but all of this is what gets you through and keeps you smiling!

memphis83 · 25/07/2012 23:22

The first time ds put his arms up to me to be picked up still makes me well up thinking about it.
And he is now two and wee'd in his potty earlier and all I heard from living room was 'yeeeaaahhhh Mummy I did it' so proud of himself, and I am also so proud....3 wee's in potty=me caling my Mum,dh and sister to tell them each time!

Watching a tiny little baby that you gave life to grow and mould into a little person with his own thoughts really is the best feeling in the world!

creativepebble · 25/07/2012 23:23

This is lovely!

All of the above is to look forward to.
They are such fun and full of wonderment. That first smile (always earlier than you are told it will be and it is not wind) is precious too. And when they look at you and smile spontaneously. And when they say dick instead of stick, and cock instead of sock. The newness and the joy of the world comes alive. The innocence. Love it all.

Oooo good luck Pickles!
