If you were going to a festival at 34 weeks pregnant what would you take?!

Assuming I'm not being really really sick (hypermesis) I plan to go to a festival in a few weeks time when I will be 34 weeks. There will be lots of friends going and I'll be sleeping in a caravan.

What would you take to make yourself comfortable in the day time? I don't plan to walk around much, more of a plonk and stay, but I might quite like to have a snooze without going back to the caravan.

Any tips? Thanks!

fold up camping chair! I was at an outdoor event yesterday and wished I had one of these!

noblegiraffe · 22/07/2012 15:25

My maternity notes!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 22/07/2012 15:41

ok, will make sure I get an amazing chair & take photocopy of notes or the real ones?

What about shade - do you think a pop up shade would be best or a sun umbrella??

A personal portaloo.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 22/07/2012 15:53

My straight jacket as I would have gone insane to even consider such a thing Grin good luck OP

Thumbwitch · 22/07/2012 15:57

Portaloo
Tena ladies (maxi)
Car seat and baby stuff, oh and TENS machine.
something to sit on for sure.

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 22/07/2012 16:03

Thumbwitch, Tena Lady? The portaloos aren't that bad! If the worst comes to the worst I will wee into a bottle using my trusty sheepee - I have been practising doing it with bump for a few days in prep.

The festival is 1 hours away from home so even if I go into labour I think we'd make it home? But might be a good idea to take the labour bag incase.

To sit on I think I'm going to get a lightweight reclining carp chair so should be very comfy.

Depends on how much you're jumping about, shouldI - perhaps your pelvic floor is doing better than mine but I've needed liners in my knickers for the last 10w already (28w pg now) just in case I sneeze/cough/laugh too much - jumping just isn't an option in my case.

Well done with using the shepee, by the way!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 22/07/2012 16:12

It's my first and I'm 28 so my pelvic floor is doing ok so far luckily. I also do my exercises when I cook/drive Grin. Plus I plan to do no jumping. Mainly lazing around. The music I'll be listening too is mainly lazy summer days music.

I have one of these do you reckon it'd be in the way at a festival? I'd always try and sit to the side of the stage too obviously.

Grumpla · 22/07/2012 16:14

Ha, I was going to suggest a shewee!

A couple of pillows. No way could I sleep without extra pillows at that stage - one between knees one to hold arm up.

PollyIndia · 22/07/2012 18:01

Which festival? I am going to green man - I'll be 34 weeks too!
This is a useful thread for me too as, needless to say, I've not even thought about it!

BionicEmu · 22/07/2012 18:06

I don't know what festival you're going to, but check their info to see if they have anything in place for pregnant women. One I went to allowed all sorts if you produced your NHS maternity card - access to.disabled toilets and viewing platforms etc.

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 22/07/2012 18:15

PollyIndia - it's greenman! I think this came up months ago on another thread? How are you doing? Can't believe you haven't thought of about it,I'm counting down the days. I've never been to GM though; have you?

BionicEmu, wow good tip, I like the sound of viewing platforms! I will email them now Grin

Ah yes, it did! How are you getting on? I am good thanks. Still feeling quite full of energy, isn, which bodes quite well for green man. Never been as I tend to go to Glastonbury and secret garden but they are not so good if pregnant I reckon. Not that Glastonbury was on this year anyway!
It is meant t be a lovely festival, perfect if you are pregnant. I've had a lot on which is why I've not thought about it, but will now. A camping chair is a good idea. Snacks? Pillows makes a lot of sense too. And yes, i guess maternity notes. God, I hope it's sunny! We might cheat and get a B&B if it is terrible weather. Normally I have a glug of rum and battle through it, but that isn't really an option these days!!
Where do you live?

SkaterGrrrrl · 22/07/2012 19:21

Brilliant - have fun! Ive been to festivals pregnant.

I would take a She Whizz to avoid the portaloos.

MuddyRocker · 22/07/2012 19:52

Haha made me laugh scrolling down the Shewee page on Amazon - no.24 Yellowstone Camping shower. You would not wana mix those up!
As others have said camping chair, snacks what about one of those camel packs for water? Shade - how about a brolly? Multi-functional and less bulky to carry and also not going to get in the way of other festival goers. Have an awesome time!

Badgerina · 23/07/2012 07:35

Oh I am so jealous of you two going to Green Man!! Sad I went last year and it's the BEST festival I've ever been to - so chilled, and in such a beautiful location. The music is amazing, and the atmosphere... Oh I'm torturing myself... Sad Grin

I opted not to go this year because I'll be 34 weeks preg, with PGP and don't fancy sleeping on the floor. We've got tickets to Blur and The Specials in Hyde Park as a consolation Grin

Deffo take extra pillows, a camping chair AND spongey mar to sit on; a shee pee, sounds like a sensible idea and make sure you drink enough and be careful of festival food.

Have an amazing time both of you!

DontmindifIdo · 23/07/2012 07:40

take your real notes. and your hospital bag.

blackteaplease · 23/07/2012 07:41

Definitely a chair and extra pillows. A hat would be better than a parasol for shade. Lots and lots of sunblock - i got horribly burnt in my first pg as i didn't realise how sensitive my skin was .

I know you said this was your first but don't underestimate trips to the loo by that point. Portaloos aren't spacious to manouver in and squatting is very hard with a bump. You will need to wee often!

Er, that's all i an think of. Have fun

MakeTeaNotWar · 23/07/2012 07:49

I've been to Glastonbury at 32 weeks and am going to Wilderness shortly at 34 weeks. I had a fold up stool with a shoulder strap that DH lugged about & was a lifesaver. That and notes. Otherwise just the normal festival stuff - sunscreen & lots of water, eye mask to keep out the pesky dawn, comfy shoes. Enjoy!!

SuddenlyMadameGlamour · 23/07/2012 07:55

Shelter is fine, but who's going to carry al this stuff?! Do you have a very supportive dp or a trailer?! I went to a festival when I was pg, without dp, worse bit for me was carrying stuff to/from the car ober boggy ground as that was a great distance. Rest was fine as tent wasn't that far away from everything else, had no real issues really.

Only advice I have is I used to get up on my own every morning and get my own breakfast as soon as I woke up. I found this way I avoided getting sick. If I'd have waited for everyone to get up and get round to having breakfast I'd have been/felt sick all day. There were a couple if nice clean places that had lovely veggie breakfast options close to our tent. But perhaps take something you can nibble on just in case your only option is a rather dubious burger van! Though I doubt this will be the case at the green man! Wink

I don't know how you are with your hyperemesis but I found with my morning sickness the worse thing I could do was let myself get hungry/my blood sugar drop. Hence eating the very minute I woke up and always having something to snack on was the only thing that seemed to help.

sleepybump · 23/07/2012 08:03

At 34 wks my bump suddenly decided to engage...and stayed like that till i gave birth at 37wks! I can remember not being able to walk the length of a supermarket isle without wanting to sit down, and that had to be on a chair, no way could i get up and down from the floor! Lol. So i second the shewee thing (dont underestimate the distance to the toilets!) and definatly a sturdy camping chair with maybe a coolbox you can fill with drinks/snacks each day and have a friend deliver to your spot Smile

Oh and labour bag/notes ... I got swollen hands and legs from water retention at about 34wks as i ended up having to sit srill alot and had to take a trip to the hospital to check for pre eclampsia. You just want to be sure your ready for anything so you can kick-back and enjoy the festival! Grin

Clarella · 23/07/2012 14:44

I'm off to womad (camping) next weekend at 23 weeks and my priorities have been

Comfortable sleep mat
Flat bump pillow
Good head torch
Lactulose
Gaviscon
Support socks
Support leggings (preggers footless on amazon)
Prunes
Wet wipes/ wet toilet tissue
Emergency nibbles

Seriously debating dragons den bog in a bag (will double as seat) (or margarine tub)

Don't need notes do I ?!?

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 23/07/2012 15:12

Wow loads of rpelies thanks everyone, will pack real notes then, might take a photocopy with me too to keep on me just incase. Also back labour bag, baby bag and a car seat just incase!

Polyindia, I'm in Bristol, we're going up Friday afternoon. I'm actually quite excited really. We should have a pregnant get together while we are there. I wont be doing much walking around, more like plonking in a spot for the day.

MuddyRocker, I have a camelbak water bottle which I adore so will be taking that but not a hydration pack.

Badgerina, I'm so glad you've said such great things about Greenman. We normally go to Glastonbury and then a few local ones so have no idea what to expect. Is it quite shady? Glastonbury has no shade! I'm a bit worried about over heating but don't want to take a shade incase it's in the way as I have no idea how big the site is.

SuddenlyMadameGlamour, my darling DP will be carrying everything and we're going with 12 or so friends so they will help too! So far though all I have to take beyond normal stuff is a chair which wont weigh much.

sleepybump, my baby has been engaged for 3 weeks, walking is a bit of a bugger but I wont be doing much of it thankfully and can have lots of rest.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I just need to decide now, what chair & if shade is needed. I would quite like to lie down and have a nap. Not sure a hat is going to cut it. Really I want one of those beach shelter things Sad

PollyIndia · 23/07/2012 16:04

Yes, let's! Get a parasol. I had one at glasto last year and mainly used it to twirl but it would have been very good as a sunshade too.
We can be uber naff and get our bumps painted.
I don't think the baby has engaged. Right now I feel totally fine, but friends who've had babies recently all say I won't by 34 weeks and I'll be biting off more than I can chew, a view shared by my mother.
So I'll be holding you up as my ally in this 34 weeks pregnant at a festival shouldibecrossabout this, if that's ok!
