I'm 37 weeks, housebound with SPD and need distracting! The West Wing is my favourite boxset ever, but at the moment I need something much less reliant on actually paying much attention - thinking something more along the lines of Will and Grace/ Sex and the City, that sort of thing?

Any suggestions? Really wanted to get the complete Will and Grace but the cheapest I can find on Amazon is £70 which is just too much with all the current baby outgoings - any suggestions on alternative places to buy?

Alternatively, if anybody has suggestions on how to get baby to arrive now, now, now, so much the better...

Do you do detectives? If so:

Columbo

Morse

Lewis (bit baroque, not ideal if watching people get chopped up in macerators will give you nightmares)

Midsomer Murders (ditto, plus it's really quite silly)

haloflo · 12/07/2012 19:02

How I met your mother got me through the last few weeks of pregnancy plus night feeds with a newborn. Very funny (til about season 5) and quite cheap to buy.

If you want time to fly 24 is very too addictive...warning - you won't want baby to appear til you have finished all the series!

darthsillius · 12/07/2012 19:03

If you like us comedies then my favourites at the moment are modern family and parks and recreation. Not sure what the box set price:/availability is like though.

PotteringAlong · 12/07/2012 19:04

The unit
60 rock
Studio 60 is good and written by west wing people :)

DaPrincessBride · 12/07/2012 19:06

Dexter - dark comedy
Mad Men :)

thepeanutsparent · 12/07/2012 19:10

The Good Wife!!! It's great. It has everyone from everywhere in it too so it's fun to spot her from ER, him from Sex and the City, her from Mama Mia, him from Dead Poets Society etc etc. The only thing it hasn't got is too many laughs but the plot and characters make up for it. Good luck and enjoy!

Loislane78 · 12/07/2012 19:11

Mad Men - defo!! Would watch em all again and intend to :)
Also quite enjoyed Breaking Bad, not a comedy though.

noodleone · 12/07/2012 19:13

House is good. I came onto the thread to recommend the West Wing but you have already watched it. Sky plus is a godsend for this. I found myself watching all sorts of rubbish!

BeattieBow · 12/07/2012 19:13

Have you done The Killing? I loved that. I am on mat leave now and have got Breaking Bad to watch next - so far though, all I have managed is This Morning

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 12/07/2012 19:14

Mrs browns boys i find hilarious, the big bang theory too! Nighty night is good but very off beat and a but cringey, i also like outnumbered! also liked house and bones (not comedy obviously)

kellestar · 12/07/2012 19:16

It was ER for me, also black books, inbetweeners but the later two caused dampness by laughing too much. They do have good resale value.

Greys anatomy and nip/tuck borrowed from friends. Ask about you may know someone who will loan to you. Also our library hire box sets for a week for five pounds.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 12/07/2012 19:16

Oh greys anatomy is fabulous :) I buy and resell on eBay and never loose money except the postage

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 12/07/2012 19:17

Also enjoy because you next maternity leave will be spent watching cbeebies Grin

Gooseysgirl · 12/07/2012 19:18

Mad Men Grin

grammar · 12/07/2012 19:18

Cracker, definitely!!

CBChester · 12/07/2012 19:20

Gilmore Girls got me through 6 weeks off with a broken ankle last year Wink

BeattieBow · 12/07/2012 19:21

I have a newborn now and keep catching the Big Bang theory at random times in the night - its funny I think.

also like Madmen and The Good Wife but these arent comedies of course.

I wouldnt mind getting Game of thrones too but I think this is v expensive (and also not a comedy!).

sleepybump · 12/07/2012 19:30

Was going to say west wing too (just on second viewing after 12m...still great!). Hmm, House, How i met your mother, Big bang theory, Firefly (now this one was a surprise, but its short so nice filler if youfeel like something different... The series is rounded up in the film Serenity, which is also usually found quite cheap too). Or maybe Band of brothers (if you feel like something a little more serious for a change).

Methe · 12/07/2012 19:31

True Blood.

Best series ever made!

Band of Brothers but that's quite heavy going with its utter brilliance.

Fringe is good (but surreal)

Mad Men

Game of Thrones

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 12/07/2012 19:33

If u have virgin tv, with V+ inbetweeners is on demand as was black books (not sure it still is)

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 12/07/2012 19:34

I'm watching Brothers & Sisters on demand on BT Vision and it's very good. Funny, sad, not too complex and cleverly scripted.

Kveta · 12/07/2012 19:36

Modern Family - brilliant series!

TouTou · 12/07/2012 19:36

Game of Thrones may be too heavy - but it's excellent.

What about The Big Bang Theory. Nice and light and funny.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 12/07/2012 19:36

I spent my first mat leave/newborn days watching Frasier, Black Books, Father Ted, Spaced and rewatching Buffy.

Generally speaking I loved The Wire and Homicide: Life On The Street, but late pregnancy/new mum hormones meant I was unable to deal with anything harsher than a Niles Crane putdown for several months Grin

katiegolightly · 12/07/2012 19:39

Dexter.

www.amazon.co.uk/Dexter-Seasons-1-5-Complete-DVD/dp/B0053WRSCS

£44 for 5 seasons. Seriously the best thing you can buy! Didn't think this was my thing but the characters are fantastic, great gripping story lines. I was in your boat and this kept me sane and amused for 3 whole months. And we felt like we watched it every night...

Addictive, entertaining and awesome (I'm an SATC type girl usually)
