I'm 37 weeks, housebound with SPD and need distracting! The West Wing is my favourite boxset ever, but at the moment I need something much less reliant on actually paying much attention - thinking something more along the lines of Will and Grace/ Sex and the City, that sort of thing?

Any suggestions? Really wanted to get the complete Will and Grace but the cheapest I can find on Amazon is £70 which is just too much with all the current baby outgoings - any suggestions on alternative places to buy?

Alternatively, if anybody has suggestions on how to get baby to arrive now, now, now, so much the better...

Hot in cleveland is also good in a no concentration required type of way, i like everybody loves raymond which is on most mornings on C4 along with according to jim, not enough to buy them Though! TOWIE boxsets are cheap but an acquired taste Wink

LetsKateWin · 12/07/2012 19:52

I was going to suggest Modern Family too.

Private Practice is really cheesy, but I love it.

DaPrincessBride · 12/07/2012 19:54

Oh and Gilmore Girls!! Love it!

applecrumple · 12/07/2012 19:55

Sex & the city is surely always a winner!

AlmostAHipster · 12/07/2012 19:59

My treasured box sets are Prison Break, The Sopranos, Oz, The Wire and The Shield - I like 'em gritty :)

However, I've not bought any DVDs since I got subscriptions to Netflix and Lovefilm - both about £6 a month with loads of films and telly series on them. Plus they both usually have money-saving offers on for new customers.

diddlediddledumpling · 12/07/2012 20:00

Dexter, Cracker, Boardwalk Empire, Prison Break, 24 are all great, BUT...

depending on your age, you may or may not remember The Golden Girls. It saw me through the first month with my first baby 6 years ago, half hour episodes, perfect for a feed. I often ended up watching 4 or 5 in a day. Would certainly put the days in while you're waiting.

What about the vicar or dibley? That's some lovely feel good tv :)

GnocchiNineDoors · 12/07/2012 20:02

The Cleveland Show. I luffs it.

Royle Family

Big Bang Theory

Benaberry · 12/07/2012 20:03

Will second the recommendation for Lovefilm or Netflix - we're in the process of catching up on boxsets through Lovefilm (plus some cheesy old movies we haven't seen for years)

Favourite boxsets apart from the West Wing, erm 24, Desperate Housewives, Six Feet Under, Dexter is meant to be really good. Also recently indulged in rewatching Sharpe and Buffy the Vampire Slayer from the very beginning Blush. Lovefilm now has a lot of its TV series on stream which has been great for dipping in and out.

cakeandcava · 12/07/2012 20:05

Seconding the person who said True Blood. It's brilliant!

cakeandcava · 12/07/2012 20:07

Oh, and with a Netflix subscription (cheap) you can get lots of the series mentioned on this thread, pluss all the Dr. Who episodes from the start of the Christopher Eccleston/Billie Piper series

DeathMetalMum · 12/07/2012 20:22

Another for the big bang theory if you finish them all you can watch it again as its funnier the second time around (or 4th 5th 6th). You could also watch all the harry potter films or lord of the rings if you like them they will both take a day or two each. Plus once the baby is here and past about 4 months you probably wont get a chance to watch much or if baby is asleep you will falling asleep well I did anyway.

Gavin and Stacey

missdeelite · 12/07/2012 20:32

Love greys anatomy but too gory for me when pg and hormonal! Modern Family is laugh our loud funny/ really silly like friends and I'd highly recommend, nor sure why more people don't seem to watch it. Brothers and Sisters and Private Practise ate super cheesy glitzy American guilty pleasures which i love, and also rate the Good Wife ( but you have to pay attention!!!)

uselesslife · 12/07/2012 20:35

I watched Bodies, my mother thought I was insane

MidLine · 12/07/2012 20:38

Definitely agree with The Wire. Without doubt the best series I've seen and DH agrees. Also a big ER fan.

sw11mumofone · 12/07/2012 20:43

Desperate Housewives got me through maternity leave number 1. Agree with whoever posted Inbetweeners - brilliant!!

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 12/07/2012 20:45

I spent 2 months on the sofa after breaking my foot and my LoveFilm subscription was amazing. Not only was I getting movies on DVDs through the post but I upgraded my subscription to unlimited streaming which DP then set up for me on the Xbox so could stream dozens of tv series for free! It was £7.99/mth but as others have said, cash back sites will give you deals to bring this down. If you don't have an Xbox you can stream on laptop and use a cable to view on the telly

My face series were:

Gene Hunt stuff (life on mars)
Gavin & Stacey
Cold Feet (missed it first time around)
OBEM
Big Fat Gypsy Weddings
Dexter

urbanproserpine · 12/07/2012 20:51

When I was overdue with DS1 ITV3 had a Sherlock Holmes weekend. We watched continually; this was the IVT Jeremy Brett version from the late eighties. Very high production values and great script. Jeremy Brett is very sly and funny. Completely took my mind off as was not able to watch anything heavy/with horror/ involving child death, etc etc with all the hormones, plus escapism as Victorian... Prob quite cheap on amazon....

urbanproserpine · 12/07/2012 20:53

PS box set and turn all phones off is my advice for When You Go Overdue too

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 14/07/2012 18:44

Beautiful people series one and two for just over a tenner on amazon, quite funny no real attention required

MrsReiver · 14/07/2012 18:52

Okay off the top of my head:

Castle
Dollhouse
Firefly - followed by Serenity
True Blood
Battlestar Galactica
V

Beans1977 · 14/07/2012 20:52

Bit old school but we recently bought Jonathan Creek and Teachers - loved both!

katiegolightly · 17/07/2012 05:13

p.s. I can also highly recommend LOVEFiLM as I work for them :)
