A colleague of mines niece had her baby yesterday a much anticipated girl. Only it wasn't a girl it was a boy! The Sonographer had been wrong. Cue emergency clothes buying and re-painting of the nursery. I had never heard of this happening before. Think I will just keep it so I can find out for myself when they ask at my 20 week scan!

I have been told boy on 2 scans but am nervous now! I find out so I can bond with them as a person and would feel like I had lost my little boy somewhere!

We only found out with DC3 and it never crossed my mind the sonographer could have been wrong. She wan't though.

Our hospital tell you (more than once!) at the scan that they have a 98% accuracy rate in identifying the sex, so you're prepared for them to get it wrong.

An ex-colleague had named her bump Gracie after finding out it was a girl. She referred to the baby as Gracie for the next 20+ weeks. So everyone was very confused when the birth of Noah was announced!
I don't think we'll be naming our bump if/when we find out the sex!

At my sonogram they said they wer 90% sure it was a girl. BUT i was told NOT to go and buy everything girlie as it could b wrong. I thought everyone was told this.

I just paid £80 for a private scan at 23 weeks. I have been told it is a boy, and the scan was very clear. I asked if there was any mistaking it, and the lady said not with a boy. This thread has me worried now. NHS trust does not reveal gender, so it is not as if I can check it against previous opinions.

I have two girls, and have already got rid of some pink stuff.

it can be mistakes with both apparently as the clitoritis can be swollen and look like a penis and the labia can be a shape that looks like testicles, and the penis can be smaller then a swollen clitoritis at that stage, plus the testicles are less distinct and can look like labia

(or so I've heard)

Dc1 we were told probably girl but couldn't be sure, it was a dd. Dc2 had no nausea, symptoms etc, I thought boy, scan said girl and it was a girl. Dc3 scan said boy and it was a boy. Three years later he is still in dd1's pink nursery as we are too lazy/knackered/skint to redecorate (have done other rooms though). So far only psychological effect seems to be his insistance on showing everyone the irefutable evidence that he is a boy with his endless willie shows. Will maybe reconsider when he starts having school friends over for play dates!
