I would like to know how any of you who have had predicted weights for the baby turned out. Was it way off, close, exact? How many predictions did you have? How close was the last prediction to birth?

I've had estimates since 22 weeks and am wondering how things will go!

Mine were wrong for both, ds1 was predicted 5lb ish so i was induced at 39 weeks, and was 6lb 3 at birth. Ds2 was supposed to be 6lb ish but was 4lb 14. Each scanner measured water different done measured as ok and others as dangerously low so I complained and the consultant scanned me herself and it was very low so I was induced at 38 weeks.

Whatevertheweather · 07/06/2012 19:21

DD1 was predicted to be 'a little on the small side' at just under 7lbs at 39+5 she was born 40+2 at 8lb 10ozs

DD2 was predicted to be 4lbs 2ozs at 34 weeks. She was born at 35 weeks exactly 5lbs.

27 weeks pg with DD3 scan on Wednesday said she is estimated to be 2lbs 1oz currently

TessTosterone · 07/06/2012 19:23

Ds2 was scanned at 39+5 as I was measuring large. They predicted 9 pounds and he was 9 lb 5 a day later.

worrywortisworrying · 07/06/2012 19:25

I had scans at 35 weeks for my two children (both ElCS) and in both cases the weight was pretty much spot on. Within 1/2ounce with DS and within 2ounces with DD.

They were done privately so I don't know if the techniques are different, but they were scarily accurate.

headfairy · 07/06/2012 19:26

I had two growth scans with dd as I was 6 weeks behind my dates for my whole pregnancy (I'm tall though so I suspect she was just lying in an odd position) and at 36 weeks I was told she would be "dainty" at around 6lbs5oz by 40 weeks. She was born at 40+12 and was 6lbs13oz so I reckon at 40 weeks she'd have been a bit smaller than they estimated.

worrywortisworrying · 07/06/2012 19:27

It still didn't prepare me (or, for that matter, my step daughters!) for the distinct similarily between newborn babies and skinned rabbits Wink

OvO · 07/06/2012 19:27

My DS1 was not given a predicted weight as at 31/33 scans he was off the charts! So all we knew is that he was big and he was - 10lb 8oz at 38 weeks!

My DS2 we were told he would be around 8lb at full term but he was 8lb 6oz at 36 weeks.

My DS3 we were told he would also be around 8lb at full term but he was 7lb 9.5oz at 36 weeks.

It's very hit and miss with these scans. I had several growth scans with all 3 pregnancies and they all said the same all the way through.

FeathersMcGraw · 07/06/2012 19:28

I measured large with dd2, was scanned at 37 weeks and they predicted at least 9lb.

Was induced at 40+3 because they were concerned at large baby vs pelvic girdle disorder and she weighed in at 8lbs exactly...

Queen0fFlamingEverything · 07/06/2012 19:31

I had a scan the week before DS was born where they said he was 50th centile all round (they didn't actually predict a weight though)

He weighed 10lb at birth and his head circumference was 98th centile!

MrsPaynie · 07/06/2012 19:38

My was way way off with DD, growth scan at 34 weeks estimated she would be 10.5lb at 40 weeks, I had her at 38+2 and she weighed a nice healthy 8lb 3oz

idobelieveinfairies · 07/06/2012 19:41

With DS3 i had growth scans every month. At 37+2 heis scan was showing 9lb 11, he was born at 38 weeks weighing 10lb, so they were pretty spot on.

With DS4 they scanned and said he would be bigger than the 10lber, so i was induced at 40 weeks....he was a tiny 8lb 5! So they were way out there!

Kveta · 07/06/2012 19:43

with DS, they predicted 8lb 8oz at 40 weeks - he was 8lb 15.5 oz at 30 minutes before 41 weeks, when he was finally delivered :o so pretty much spot on.

This one they have predicted 8lb 10oz at 40 weeks, and am 40+2 with no sign of her yet Angry but a ridiculous bump.

ItsMyLastOne · 07/06/2012 22:38

I had a growth scan at 35 weeks. DD came on the due date just 2oz lighter than predicted. It was pretty accurate!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/06/2012 22:44

Was told my non-existent bump would equal a way less than 5lb baby at growth scans. MWs were prepped for a teeny baby that would require extra care.

She was 6lb14oz, bang on her due date and absolutely fine. (and I went home from the hospital in a pair of jeans a size smaller than the ones I'd been wearing before I got pregnant Grin )

poorbuthappy · 07/06/2012 22:46

Can't remember specifics, but all 3 of my (1 single and twins) growth scans and measurements were wrong.

madwomanintheattic · 07/06/2012 22:55

They were convinced dd1 was vast. I had to go to the hospital every other day from 38 weeks and was scanned every time. They told me she was going to be big, and guessed at 10lb 13oz. As I am petite, the consultant said he would not be happy for me to go into labour naturally. At 39+6 he booked me for the following morning on my due date, as he was convinced I would be unable to birth naturally.

Dd1 was 8lb 6oz. So was ds1 (vbac1, they told me he was going to be bigger as well). Dd2 was 9lbs. (vbac2) By that point I wasn't listening to magical 'I can tell how big your baby is' scientific instruments. Grin

That said, I wish I had known how inaccurate these things are before, as I would have tried for a normal birth first. My vbac 1 and 2 were both nightmarish, and I wonder how much of that was caused either physically or psychologically by the initial and completely pointless elcs...

happy2bhomely · 07/06/2012 22:59

Ds growth scan at 34 weeks.
Estimated birth weight 8 lbs.
Born at 40 weeks weighing 11 lbs.

Billy11 · 07/06/2012 23:00

they predicted it last time and were wrong...my baby was very tall but not chubby she was slim and tall and the weight prediction is based on the lentgth of the baby and head and tummy size etc...so im not asking this tim e

i was told my first three would be small, they said 6-7lb they were all 9lb+

with no 4 i didnt have any he was 10lb 13oz, so with dd they wanted to do extra scans and they said she was going to be 9lb 5+ and i said NO this baby isnt that big, 2 days before she was born they thought she was at least 9lb 5oz already she was exactly 8lb! so ime they are crap!

SecondHandNews · 08/06/2012 08:38

I had a private 4D scan at 29 weeks and was told estimated birth weight of 7.5 -8lbs. She was born at 39 weeks weighing 7lb2oz. So if she had been born a week later she she may have been around 7.5lbs. I doubt she would have made it up to 8lb but it was fairly accurate I think.

Daisybell1 · 08/06/2012 09:43

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks predicting 6lb at birth. Baby born at 40+13 at 8lb 2oz, but after induction with drip so baby was inflated with masses of water. Baby dropped down to 7lb 3oz and has continued on the 25th centile for many months, so yes, she was/is a dinky dot, its just that her birth weight was the anomaly.

AKMD · 08/06/2012 09:58

I had growth scans every couple of weeks for DS as he was small for dates and I had pre-eclampsia. I was induced at 37 weeks and he was born at 5lb 2oz, which was fairly close to the previous scan measurement. DH and I got all the baby clothes down from the loft last week to sort them out in preparation for DD and we couldn't believe how tiny DS's first clothes were! The newborn stuff absolutely swamped him and I remember size 1 nappies coming up to his armpits. He's now 2 and still dinky but no problems at all.

goodygumdrops · 08/06/2012 10:12

Loads for DD1. Predicted 95th centile. Was 6 lbs.

McKayz · 08/06/2012 10:15

I had a growth scan at 30w+4 and was predicted a weight of 3lb 14oz. Another at 36 weeks which said baby was 7lb 3oz. Both scans predict DC3 will be 9lb 14oz. Due in 2 weeks so I am looking forward to seeing how accurate they have been.
