Hi
Please can someone help, I am 6+2 weeks pregnant and suffering from really bad nausea all day with no let up. I am not being sick but from the moment I wake up to the moment I fall asleep I am exhausted and feel sick all the time. I am eating but the thought of food or even drink (even water) makes me want to be sick, I cant even be sick o just feel dreadful. ANy ideas guys or how long its likely to last I am getting really snappy with the rest of my family :(

Eurgh, you have my sympathy OP. My m/s disappeared at 12 weeks dead on, but it's different for everyone. I recommend giving space raiders (you know the really crap crisps?) a go, they settled my stomach like nothing else. Also, sipping ginger ale or Rio helped too.
Hope you feel better soon, and congratulations!!!!

discobeads · 29/05/2012 20:50

oh poor you :( I had this with my first pregnancy. I am now 8 weeks pg with my second and am a lot better. I don't know if this is just luck, but the things that helped me last time, and I have firmly in place now are as follows:

  1. Take your pg vitamins last thing at night
  2. When you wake in the morning, wake yourself, acknowledge the sick feeling and then go back to sleep (if you can - i am fortunate in that this time I am self employed, so can roll in at 9:30 if i choose) it will be less the second time you wake. Then sit up and stay in bed sat up for a while.
  3. Shower the night before, as excess heat/movement makes everything worse
  4. Eat little and often. Honestly, whatever it is you fancy eat it. have it in the house. Force yourself to eat every couple of hours. The sickness wll diminish, it might not go, but being full stops the retching awfulness.
  5. if you really need to drink first thing in he morning, drink warmish water and just little sips. Do not put cold water in your sick stomach.
pookle10 · 29/05/2012 20:51

oh i feel for you, morning sickness is dreadful( bloomin all day sickness! )
mine lasted about three weeks and i survived on polo mints, boiled sweets, lucozade and ready salted crisps, it will pass, i promise and then you can enjoy your pregnancy : )...........and then wait for the shrek feet : )

Coops79 · 29/05/2012 20:54

Hello - sorry you're feeling so rubbish. The one thing that helped me (and I completely recognise that this is bonkers) was fizzy, sour haribo. Also, eating little and often seemed to help.

I stopped feeling sick around 14 weeks and the good news is that I suddenly felt absolutely super-human and able to take on the world. Hope you get there soon.

Another vote of sympathy from me.

I was nauseated for weeks with dc1 and this time round I am being properly sick 2 or 3 times a day.

My advice would be really really try to force yourself to nibble something regularly. I found mint humbugs, hot chocolate, toast & marmite and salty crisps the most palatable. Along with citrus non fizzy drinks.

I have taken to eating my main meal of the day at lunch.

My other advice is not to be frightened of vomiting. I often feel much better afterwards. I now choose evening snacks / food that isn't to awful to bring up. On the 'good' list are sweet & sour sweets like skittles, on the bad list is chili con carne & anything with cooked cheese!

It (usually) gets better by the second trimester.

Claire129 · 29/05/2012 21:07

Thank you so much luvly ladies for your thoughts and ideas. I will certainly be trying them ....all!! ANything to get rid of this feeling, I can cope with the exhaustion but the nausea is draining me. I have been eating cheesy doritos which seem to help and yesterday I had a chip butty from the chippy which made the nasuea go for an hr or so. I am trying to eat little and often but with this heat I am soooo thirsty all the time and any fluid makes me wreth but fizzy drinks are better than anything else so will def try lucozade Pookle10.

May sound weird but at work today I had a tin of cream soda and it made me feel great for a while.
I re3ally want to enjoy this pregnnacy coz lost a baby at xmas (ovarian ectopic) so this baby is very much wanted just down in the dumps and poor hubby getting the worst of it.
Thanks again, off shopping for alsorts tomorrow and will be tring all ideas including discobeads ideas xx

With this heat be careful of becoming dehydrated. Try ice/ fruit lollies.

I was really bad for a few weeks. But was vomiting as well so dr gave me medication. Which really helped.

lardylump · 29/05/2012 21:51

total sympathy from me, no remedies - i was only pregant for 7 months and spent 5 of those in hospital on a drip due to hyperemisis.

But i do have some good news for you. In my (very severe) case, it didnt effect my babay at all. she wa small 4/6 but then she was 10 weeks early.

shes 8 now and still thriving. please dont worry about your baby

applestrudel · 29/05/2012 21:56

Anti-sickness bands helped me. No guarantee they'll work for you but you've got nothing to lose trying them...except a few quid!

weebleswillwobble · 29/05/2012 22:16

Lemon juice worked for me.

joby21 · 29/05/2012 22:19

You completely have my sympathies too! I am now 11 weeks and have had the horrible nausea throughout. I have found that anything dairy makes me feel worse so i've cut all cheese and milk out. Toast and marmite helps, twiglets help, nice and spicey nik nak crisps help. Found bacon rolls fix me for about an hour or so. The other thing that has been helping me function is mints (strong and sugar free!) and ginger nut buscuits! I have been living on those nearly continuously, especially at work!

fengirl1 · 29/05/2012 22:34

Ginger nut biscuits before getting out of bed and cough candy for smells that made me feel sick helped me.

milli2512 · 29/05/2012 22:39

Lots of sympathy from me too. I had bad nausea from 6 to 16 weeks. I recommend the wrist bands, helped take the edge off it. Keep cream crackers by your bed and nibble on one as soon as you wake. Salt and vinegar crisps and cloudy lemonade seemed to go down well. I had to eat all the time as soon as stomach was empty boom I felt sick. It does get better, I'm now 20 weeks and feel like a different person. Just hope the last trimester doesn't throw up any nasty surprises!

PestoPenguin · 29/05/2012 22:42

All I can say is it will go eventually. For most people it improves after the first trimester. Like other people have said, eating little and often helps and avoiding spicy/fatty/sugary foods and drinks.

I'm cooking DC4 at the moment and the nausea has been the worst this time round. Nothing fixed it whilst it lasted, and it was grim. It got better around 5 months. With DC1 the nausea only lasted the first trimester, but I was regularly sick until 8 months. Thankfully with DCs2&3 the nausea was totally minimal. There's not really much you can do except try your best to cope, wait it out and know that it's pot luck.

Congratulations btw Grin

PogoBob · 29/05/2012 23:21

You have my sympathy, I'm now 9 weeks and have been suffering with nausea 24/7 since 4+1.

Lots of good ideas on this thread, one thing that has helped me avoid dehydration are those ice pops, generally buy them in the supermarket not frozen and then stick them in the freezer.

Also, I've had to cut out some things totally, can't eat fruit in any shape as it make me feel awful.

Hopefully it will get better for both of us.

Congratulations and sorry to hear about your ectopic.

ChocolateIsAFoodGroup · 30/05/2012 04:34

Tried everything this preg (DC3) and the thing that worked was.... drugs! Like you, I wasn't sick, but the constant carsickness was the worst. thing. ever. The drugs I took (I live in the States, but they are available in the UK) was called ZOFRAN. Trade name: ODANSETRON. My friend who is an anaethetist back home has just been taking them and they are a lifesaver for her, too. Really. Really. Works. (And yes, like I said, I tried everything else first, but this really kicked the all-day sickness in the arse!)

lotsofthingstolearn · 30/05/2012 08:53

Hi Claire

I am 6 +3 so we are very close together- if it helps I am feeling exactly the same as you.....last night had mashed potato and for an hour or so I felt great. I've also found Ribena and wholemeal pitta bread toasted ok. But yes at the moment certainly take my hats off in admiration for all of these women that have more than one child

TerraNotSoFirma · 30/05/2012 09:14

I was sick the whole of both my pregnancies, Pom bears were the only thing that helped me.

Also both babies were healthy weights at 7lbs 4oz and 8lbs 6oz.

CuppaTeaJanice · 30/05/2012 09:19

The thing that worked for me was making myself burp, because it was the stale air stuck in my digestive system that was making me feel nauseous.

neverquitesure · 30/05/2012 09:23

I feel so sorry for you, I had this with both pregnancies. The only thing that helped me was being slightly cold (not shivery, just a little cooler than was comfortable). Hard in this weather I know. You have my sympathies.

mistlethrush · 30/05/2012 09:28

I had to eat something every 10 mins or so - even if it was only half an oatcake (and I found oatcakes really good). Even a sweet helped but it meant browsing pretty constantly all day as nausea kicked in at about 9.30am and lasted for the rest of the day. Mine did go at about 14 weeks though.

Lovemarmite · 30/05/2012 12:37

Sympathies too!
Marmite, cheddars, potatoes, dairylea, orange juice and toast seemed to help me.
Couldn't face leafy green veggies and anything spicy but after 10 weeks it all started to go... only to reappear about 16 weeks for about 3 weeks with vomiting but in the evening, now at 29+5, it still comes and goes but easier and back to healthy foods again.
Hope it eases up and ... Congratulations!

LilK · 01/06/2012 16:50

I was exactly the same from 6 weeks onwards. I wasn't actually sick (apart from little bits but nothing really) and REALLY struggled with fluids. I tried everything including ginger. The only thing that helped me was accupuncture. I got a referral from my doctor and then went to a private clinic as I am in Westfield so could claim 75% of the costs back. Each session was £35 so it only cost me £9 per go. I had 5 sessions in total and felt much better after each week. It eventually went at 12 weeks completely.

There are some clinics that do multiple people at once in a communal room which can be much cheaper if you aren't in any type of scheme.

Hope you feel better soon, it isn't a nice feeling.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 01/06/2012 17:47

Sparkling water worked for me as did crisps, cheese sandwiches and anything else totally unhealthy and completely carb-loaded.

I also used to make myself sick (it didn't take much) first thing in the morning as the nausea was so bad then. That really helped get me through the next few hours each day.

I'm sorry to say that my sickness lasted until I was about 22 weeks and has started up again (though not nearly as bad) at 32 weeks. It was the same with my first pregnancy. It definitely died down in intensity after the first trimester but I was hoping for the symptoms to magically disappear at 12 weeks and they didn't. You do get used to it though!

Rachel37 · 01/06/2012 19:22

Claire129 I totally understand how you feel, I'm 9 weeks my ms started at 5 weeks. Some days I'm constantly sick and can't even keep water down and get out of bed. Other days I just feel constantly sick but can still function. Its hard going.

Mashed potato definitely helps and totally agree with the other posts that you need to eat all the time... they suggest every 2 to 3 hours but I eat something small much more regularly than that. I'm struggling to drink water (before I was pregnant I drank loads of water) icepops and rehydration drinks really helps.

Ginger biscuits help so does peppermint tea. I have purchased the travel sickness bands some days they work and other days they don't. I have also tried acupuncture I have had 3 sessions, the 1st session I felt great the 2nd and 3rd hasn't really helped me so I don't know if you need many more before you see a difference but worth a try.

Actually going for a walk and getting fresh air helps if you can face it.

I have had to tell my boss at work I'm pregnant due to the constant sickness, actually working from home occasionally helps me because it means I don't have to do the 1 hour travel to and from work which sets of the sickness to it's highest peaks.

I'm also hoping too that after the 12 weeks I will stop being sick....

Congratulations and hope that you feel better soon.
