Im going to a wedding this weekend and I thought I'd treat myself to eyelash extensions because I look pretty pale and in interesting whilst pregnant!
I am booked in tomorrow and thought I'd have a wee look online to see what the result would be as I've never had them before.
The first picture I looked at was from a salon that said they wouldn't do this treatment if you were pregnant.
I thought I'd check with the salon I was booked in with and they hadn't heard of it but checked with the supplier and sure enough, new advice says you can't have them. The salon was very embarrassed that they didn't already know this but it is new advice.. So ladies just to let you know really.

really?! whyever not?!! its because pregnant women dont know what good for them obviously Hmm

i bet if you hadnt of called them they would have done it as they obviously didnt know the rule! pita.

BerryLellow · 02/05/2012 13:01

I imagine it's because treatments are contraindicated during pregnancy, i.e. the glue etc. I had odd reactions to hair tint when pg that I didn't before (am a hairdresser).

Some salons will still do it, I'm sure, as I've seen someone on fb with them :)

mrswee · 02/05/2012 13:21

When I called yesterday they offered me a patch test. It was when I went in for it earlier that said they'd contacted the company who make them and do the salon training and they said that there is no way that it should be done!

Tbh I think it's pretty sensible - I've had all kinds of weird allergies and skin reactions since getting updiffed.

MarieFromStMoritz · 02/05/2012 13:31

Oh dear. I am pregnant and have eyelash extensions. Is it something in the glue, do you think? Am worried now...

Aworryingtrend · 02/05/2012 15:46

Can you just use false ones instead if its for a one off? I hear the girls aloud ones are supposed to be good.

Aworryingtrend · 02/05/2012 15:46

PS you mention being pale- I have had 2 spray tans since I got pregnant, I checked with several salons before hand who all said it was fine to get a spray tan.

Newtothisstuff · 02/05/2012 16:05

Oh crap.. I had them done when I was first pregnant. Noone said anything to me about it !!!

Clararara · 02/05/2012 17:06

What about nails? Can I get my nails done? The first thing I want to do when I start my Mat Leave is get my nails done nicely, because I have to have short nails at work (nurse). I'm not normally a girly-girl or at all glamourous but I loved the my nails I had for my wedding.

BerryLellow · 02/05/2012 17:09

I think most hair and beauty treatments are at your own discretion, but maybe the companies are covering their own backs as more people have allergic reactions etc.

When pg I would only have foiled highlights, not all over paint on colour, but others would.

littlemissnormal · 02/05/2012 18:23

YY to the girls aloud ones! They look great, are cheap and can be used about 5/6 times so you can practise beforehand!

I've fake tanned the whole way through, bad enough looking like an elephant let alone a pale one Wink

mrswee · 02/05/2012 20:27

I am sure it is sensible, I'm a bit more sensitive when I am pregnant.
They didnt say why, they didn't say if it was the glue and possible reactions but I guess that could have been covered by a patch test, which they were'nt happy to do so it might be an ingredient being toxic or something.

I will just use false ones... this wedding is on a campsite.. yes we are camping!! I just couldnt imagine putting false eye lashes on easily in a tent or the car or a 'woodland' toilet... So I wanted to have a least that bit done for me before I went.. ah well never mind. I bit I end up with some bits of leaves and twigs in my eye lashes!

With pregnancy hormones, I imagine that from 1 day to the next you could react differently! I used fake tan during my pregnancy, then 1 day I found it decided to make my legs look purple Hmm which was very strange!!

StrawberrytallCAKE · 03/05/2012 01:16

You can definitely have your nails, tan, hair, facials and pregnancy massages done though (after first trimester).

tabulahrasa · 03/05/2012 01:38

Is it a reclining chair?

I've never had them done so i've no clue, but I know there was an issue with me having dental treatment while pregnant because of the position you're in...they were very insistent that I only have short appointments and told me to tell them if I felt dizzy or unwell and got me to sit back up in between doing anything.

confuzed90 · 03/05/2012 08:24

I agree that it can be dangerous, I am a qualified beauty therapist and them glues can be pretty dangerous if an allergic reaction to occur! Could lose your sight. But the chances of a reaction are minimun, they are not unheard of and it is certainly more likely if you are pregnant, I've just had my baby 5 days ago and when I was pregnant I took a very strange allergic reaction to pot noodles and plasters! Its unbelievable how sensitive your body can become when pregnant. However if they where to perform a patch test, ensure its done absolutely correctly! And there is still a small risk as face is more sensitive but highly unlikely if the test is clear.

mrswee · 03/05/2012 09:37

Confused90 - do you think it's safe for me to use strip lashes? I've used them before but I am a bit more sensitive when pregnant.. It take it the strip lashes white glue isn't as strong as the glue you might use for extensions? What do you think?

OP posts:
confuzed90 · 03/05/2012 11:55

There is still the possibility of a reaction, but I do think that itd be less likely with strip lashes as the glur is not as strong, lashes which would be done at salon last longer as the glue is stronger

Eyelash extensions at 18 weeks?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and hoping to get individual eyelashes this weekend - this involves me lying on my back for an hour whilst they are applied.

Has anybody else had eyelashes whilst pregnant, I am worried about being in this position for an hour as I know they advise not to lay on your back whilst pregnant.

Thanks
Rachel

HJWT · 06/03/2019 12:12

@Ozzybear123 iv seen multiple pregnant women with eyelash extensions, also its after 20 weeks you shouldn't lie on your back as baby is getting bigger x

user1499122304 · 06/03/2019 12:20

I get my eyelashes done every 3 weeks and have done since before I was pregnant. I'm 25 weeks now so when I go I just tilt to my side while lying down and just change positions if needed but I have no problems.

Rosem123 · 02/07/2019 12:21

I can advise that avoiding eyelash extensions during pregnancy is a good idea. 3 years of consistently wearing my beloved eyelashes extensions (individuals not strip) and then when I got pregnant had a small reaction/irritation from them, I took them off and had a break of about 2 months but had them re fitted for my brothers wedding, had a shocking reaction. My eyes completely swelled, were weepy and extremely sore. Swelling made removing damn near impossible and was very scary, in fact nearly resulted in a hospital visit. Reaction was purely due to pregnancy/hormones and I am not yet brave enough to see if it will happen again 3 months after my pregnancy is over. Please be careful xx

Beldon · 02/07/2019 12:35

I hadn’t heard this, just had mine done Confused. Possibly glue toxic or It may be the position you have to lie in when having them done. If individual lashes it can take over an hour lying flat on back, I had to try move onto side while keeping face straight upwards - not great!

qj17 · 02/07/2019 16:59

Iv had an LVL lash lift today I'm 37 weeks pregnant. It's the first time Iv had it done and its fab! Hoping it makes me feel slightly less rough as we get closer to
Birth!

Remember: do not have shellac/ false nails near your due date. They need to be able to see your nail beds and remove any polish in case you need an emergency C-section.
