...and I can't believe i'm posting it!

I'm 13 weeks and I went to the toilet earlier and there was brown sludge (10p size approx) in my knickers. My heart stopped as I immediately though it was a bleed. After gathering myself I realised it could actually be poo so to check I wiped my bum and a tiny bit of the staining was on the tissue. I then double checked by wiping the front and there was nothing but A LOT of clear CM.

So basically I must have sharted mustn't I?! Is this a normal symptom of pregnancy because I've never done that before in my life! And where did it come from because I didn't even need a poo and haven't done since!!

I have absolutely no idea why I am posting this repulsive moment except that I guess the initial fear that I'd had a teeny bleed is still stuck in my head. But if that had been the case then my CM would have been clear right? I've just got a leaky bum haven't I? (CRINGE!)

Could have been a little bit of sludgey blood that came out in a lump... you didn't necessarily do anything you find horrible!

Pregnancy is ridiculously unglamorou, so even if you did it isn't a problem (as long as you wear a pantyliner anyway) Grin

Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 17:54

My worry is that I've had a bleed and it that I leaked some poo Blush am just embarrassed about writing about it on a public forum but hey ho, we're all in this together right Wink

If it was a bleed surely my CM wouldn't be clear straight after - no sign of any blood when I wiped the front?

*and NOT that I leaked some poo

Smell it. That'll sort it out once and for all.
Did you pass flatus prior to your stain?

ripsishere · 29/04/2012 18:01

Plus if that's all you're worried about now, wait till you are 30+ weeks and asking people if your pubes are tidy Grin
Abandon your dignity now for an easier life.

Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 18:16

I did smell it - didn't help as it was surprisingly odourless Wink

I have no dignity it's fine. I'm basically asking that if I bled, would I have lots of clear CM straight after? it would be tinted with blood wouldn't it??

OP posts:
Bunsouttheoven · 29/04/2012 18:23

If it doesn't smell then surely it wasn't a shart.

Have you recently had sex? I had some bloody discharge after sex.

Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 18:26

No I haven't had sex recently. Im worried now Sad

Right, I need to have a word with myself. After I saw the brown I wiped my bum and there was more on the tissue. I then wiped my fanjo and there was none, just clear CM. so it must have been from my bum right? I'm going slightly mad making up scenarios but all the evidence would point to not a bleed wouldn't it? Had I have bled there would have been more when I wiped my fanjo wouldn't there??

I'm sorry this is gruesome but it's like I cant see things clearly at the moment Sad Dont know where I'd be without mumsnet

Maybe call the midwife and ask. Probably the only thing that's going to put your mind at rest - I know it's embarrassing explaining, but might be worth it for peace of mind. Explain the wiping (cringe, I know) but that it doesn't smell. They're the two facts I think she'd need to know/ which are causing the confusion. I am sure it's nothing as you're right, surely it wouldn't be clear straight after. But if there's a doubt in your mind worth checking I'd say...

Babylon1 · 29/04/2012 19:36

Wait til you're in labour and leave a huge shart on the bed during a contraction!! That sorts the men from the boys apparently!!! Wink

Yes yes I have been the BUTT of many a joke since giving birth on Friday!!! I warned them it felt like I needed a poo, but they didn't listen!!!! Lol Grin

Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 19:38

I have no idea how to contact the midwife out of hours. Say is was blood, and there is no more, is that a concern? Do people normally just carry on as normal after one bit of blood?

I have sharted while pregnant, yes. It was in bed and DP was most perturbed.

God, the things MN makes you say...

janek · 29/04/2012 19:45

wss YES! a friend of mine has had a number of bleeds this pregnancy, she keeps having to have the anti D injection, but other than that all is well, she's heard the heartbeat, had a routine scan etc.

don't worry, but if you are still worried, there should be the number of the labour ward on your notes - ring them, they'll point you in the right direction if they can't help themselves. x.

Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 19:52

So of it was bloody discharge do I need to contact my midwife? Would it be ok to do so tomorrow? Or should I contact someone tonight? I haven't had my blood test results given to me but I know I'm rhesus negative so I would need anti-D right?

OP posts:
Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 19:55

Also, if anyone has had bloody discharge did you then go straight back to having clear cm?

OP posts:
plantsitter · 29/04/2012 19:59

If you're rhesus negative I would definitely contact someone just to be sure.

Bunsouttheoven · 29/04/2012 20:00

My midwife told me if I had a bleed under 20 wks to see the gp, mw after 20wks.

Not sure on the rhesus thing but I do know lots & lots of women who have had bleeds in pregnancy (including myself) & all has been fine.

Maybe call NHS direct?

Bunsouttheoven · 29/04/2012 20:03

Yes it did go back to clear straight away.

Whysoserious · 29/04/2012 20:11

Ok thanks for your help ladies

Whysoserious · 30/04/2012 15:41

I've had some brown spotting today too so I guess that answers yesterday's question. Sad

Oh fingers crossed for you.
With my first pregnancy I actually had 'periods' until I was 6 mths pregnant, it frightened me every time. I'mI told it's not that uncommon

Bunsouttheoven · 30/04/2012 17:38

Oh whyso hope turns out ok. Did you contact your gp?
