Do I REALLY have to have a glucose test?

BMI is 31 and baby measuring big for dates. 35cm at 33 weeks.

How reliable is the test? How necessary is it?

Birthing unit insisting.

Well I don't eat fish as I'm a veggie and don't eat fruit either. I tried hard during pregnancy though to eat better. I ended up needing iron transfusions due to low iron too which wasn't fun at all. You could try eating something better to see what happens. If you have GD you must cut out all the rubbish though as it could cause problems for the baby. Only a few more weeks to go.

Northernlurker · 20/04/2012 22:25

Look OP - I take a pretty 'liberal' view re glucose testing etc BUT come on - even I am going to say that YOU MUST do better with your diet. I do sympathise, I do - speaking as someone who vomited her way through three pregnancies - but you canot grow a healthy pregnancy on chocolate and crappy crisps. Limit your diet to a few things by all means but you have to get the range in there.

StarshitTerrorise · 20/04/2012 22:32

I'm doing better NL. Much better than I was.

But it isn't a lifestyle choice. I'm overweight so hardly a food-hater, but I can literally just NOT eat, ever. Everything tastes of cardboard and gives me chest pains unless it is quick digest food. I choke on the stomache acid it creates and usually cough it, and the food up.

Have you tried basically drowning yourself in gaviscon? I couldn't bear it but it works for some people.

mathanxiety · 20/04/2012 22:36

Is this all the time or just when you're pregnant?

StarshitTerrorise · 20/04/2012 22:36

I bury myself in mountains of Rennies with Zantac.

Gaviscon is the texture of cum and I just can't do it! Blush

How do you feel about baked beans? They are low GI so good from a carb pov and they've got plenty of protein and fibre too.

StarshitTerrorise · 20/04/2012 22:38

Just when pregnant, but starts early at around 3 weeks. Cn't take vitamin pills either, especially not vit B. I'm burping yeast and eventually throw up.

This pregnancy has been the worst though.

Beans too much fibre and too gassy and too acidic. One of the worst things actually.

The bearable things are dairy, though not consistently. Milk is a regular as are cubes of cheese, no bread. Eggs okay too, on their own.

Yoghurts then?

StarshitTerrorise · 20/04/2012 22:49

Yes. Yogurts are good. Forgot about them actually, but good substitute for chocolate.

Gaviscon comes (excuse the pun!) in tablet form - might be an alternative to the liquid?

StarshitTerrorise · 21/04/2012 03:07

The tablets are identical to Rennies though aren't they?

How about fruit and rice crispies? You can eat the rice crispies with milk on and it would be a way of getting some vits in you. Or do the soggy wheetabix trick, leave it to get really soggy and then eat spoonfuls with large gaps inbetween. Pears might be a good place to start and how about trying kiwis?
Sounds like your indigestion is horrific, I ate a LOT of choc with dd and I am sure it did not help.
Also have you tried small handfuls of nuts?
Little and often x

eggyblackett · 21/04/2012 05:01

No tablet Gaviscon are not identical to Rennies. Try the Gaviscon tablets, they are far superior.

lagoonhaze · 21/04/2012 07:57

This pregnancy sounds similar to my last one. Sick every day because of indigestion and stomach acid. It made the GD very difficult. But yes chocolate makes everything worse.

See if your doctor will prescribe omprezole (sp) apparently it will cure alot of these problems.

I couldn't eat fruit or salad but veg stayed down.

Try pineapple cottage cheese on crackers, ryvita or Pitta bread too.

Becaroooo · 21/04/2012 07:58

star get yourself to the GP or ooh doc and get yourself some proper ppi's...safe in pg like omeprazole or lansporazole (which is what I take)...it will deal with the excess stomach acid and should stop the vomiting x

Becaroooo · 21/04/2012 07:59

ppi = proton pump inhibitor

McKayz · 21/04/2012 08:03

I also suggest getting the doctor to prescribe omeprazole. I got some yesterday and haven't had heartburn yet since taking the first tablet.

Becaroooo · 21/04/2012 08:24

I found lansoprazole better, but omeprazole is a good start!

It will really help...cant believe no hcp suggested/prescribed it for you!!!

StarshitTerrorise · 21/04/2012 08:40

Thank you. I had it for two months. Excellent at the start but effects seemed to wear off. I think the Lan one can't be used in 3rd trimester.

Could try again, but need a GP first. Hoping my 'condition' will get me a speedy registration rather than the usual not accepting until appt with nurse in 6 weeks nonsense.

Becaroooo · 21/04/2012 10:31

I used it right up to del with ds2.

There are others too, perhaps better for you or a bigger dose?

tenby22 · 21/04/2012 12:55

I didn't realise lansprazole is ok in pregnancy. I get problems normally so I dread the last trimester. Seen to manage it with omeprazole and Gaviscon double action tablets at the moment. (Unfortunately you can't get those on prescription)

mathanxiety · 21/04/2012 21:27

How have your urine ketone measurements been or do they measure at your checkups? (since you mentioned ketones earlier)

Have you ever been checked for Heliobacter pylori?

StarshitTerrorise · 21/04/2012 21:55

I assume my keytones are okay as I do urine samples an no-on has mentioned them.

I don't know what that other thing you mention is.
