I only ask because, embarassingly, I have a CD that has the song Poison by Alice Cooper on it and the baby seems to love it. If he's been quiet for a while I can always get him to move by playing that song.

I've heard that if you play the baby the same song every day they will go quiet and listen to it when they are born. Has anybody tried this and if so, what have you been playing?? Or what music does your baby respond to. Or is it just me?

Mine responds violently to opera, with huge amounts of kicking - which could mean he loves or hates it, I suppose! Also, bizarrely, Boney M. Boney M, for heaven's sake.

Not sure whether I'm more perturbed by that or by Wagner. Confused

FoofFighter · 30/03/2012 16:16

My DD from the first week used to stop and listen to the Neighbours theme tune Blush

Hotpotpie · 30/03/2012 16:17

Mine loves dog days by florence and the machine, and seems quite happy with all the rock I play as well

ballroomblitz · 30/03/2012 16:20

My ds loved Pendullum's propane nightmares when in the womb. Remember catching him dancing like a mad thing to it on the radio when he was two. Made me laugh so hard.

mamacherry · 30/03/2012 16:21

Dub reggae - feel that bass baby!

whippetwoman · 30/03/2012 16:29

Ah, Boney M! The Neighbours theme tune! That's made me feel a whole lot better :)

Love it.

Boney M could be because of the dude's voice being verrryyyy looowwwwww

hippieshake · 30/03/2012 19:59

Mine loves Lady Gaga, the new album. I think it might be because I hum along to it in work. She also likes Nirvana x

Pootle78 · 30/03/2012 22:36

Take that, hold up a light here!!!! Blush Always, always stopped him crying when he was having a heppy in the early days and also sent him to sleep when in the car. I did play it to death though from about 6 months pregnant. I really should have picked something much cooler Blush

icapturethecastle · 30/03/2012 22:39

My DS kicked at Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 31/03/2012 19:13

Eye of the Tiger and 9 to 5 ???

GlitterySkulls · 31/03/2012 19:31

DS loved rammstein, nirvana, marilyn manson... and also, bizarrely, cheryl cole- fight for this love.

he's now 18 months & still loves them all.

LouisaJF · 31/03/2012 20:29

Got another opera fan here, particularly Pavarotti's voice. Conversely, he also seems to like Jay Z and The Prodigy!

lolajane2009 · 02/04/2012 20:29

bruno mars, lazy song, and at 7 months he still loves it. tbh baby loved to boogie and still does.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 02/04/2012 20:33

DS used to go bonkers when the shaun the sheep theme tune came on. Same reaction when a few months old Grin

Missgiraffe1 · 03/04/2012 11:05

I tried it with DD (now almost 16). Played Michael Jackson's Will You Be There all the time in last few months of pregnancy. She went completely silent and listened intently when I put it on after she was born.
Am currently 35+2. Went to see the Chemical Brothers movie in February (it was a one-off thing, played in cinemas across Europe on one night only) and this wee one was thrashing about like a maniac. He likes his dance music Smile

aaahhhBump · 03/04/2012 16:03

Cranberries - Zombie but anything with a guitar solo. :o

fulllife · 03/04/2012 16:33

party pooper alarm : i read babys dont really have hearing until fivemonths....

nickelhasababy · 03/04/2012 16:35

mine used to love church music - she loved listening to the organ and choir.
this was live, though, and now she's a person, she is very calm when she hears any of it - you can see her listening to it Grin

panpipe · 03/04/2012 17:38

I'm trying to 'educate' bump now we've got to the stage where they can apparently hear the outside world!

I play percussion in a brass band so the poor thing has had its head in a drum or cymbals all the way through (I have consulted my midwife and other musicians by the way!) - actually I think this may be having an effect as I was at a concert for work last week and baby had a proper little dance when there was a loud percussion and brassy bit!

Although the first time DH felt a kick was when Olly Murs was playing on the radio Blush

nickelhasababy · 04/04/2012 11:36

panpipe - dd was the same with the church organ.
the week after she was born, she didn't even stir when the organ struck up at full volume, but when the choir stood during a quiet period, she started with shock and cried.

lauraloo09 · 04/04/2012 11:54

my DD loves the theme tune from MASH and for the first few months she would only fall asleep listening to Bat Out Of Hell lol

Flisspaps · 04/04/2012 12:08

DD used to like Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire. She'd also go berserk for the Deal or No Deal theme tune. Rather appropriately, when we got back from hospital and plonked ourselves on the sofa in front of the TV, the first thing that was on was Deal or No Deal Grin

There's a pub we've been to a few times with her that has a Deal or No Deal fruit machine, she's also rather partial to going and looking at it (she's not interested in any other machine, so it's not the lights) - I think she has a thing for Noel Edmonds.

Flisspaps · 04/04/2012 12:09

Bugger - DC2 (40w today) has shown no such interest in any kind of music.

Fishpond · 04/04/2012 12:52

I have selected a "playlist" of 5 songs that I play to the bump (currently 25+2). Of course babies can hear before they are 5 months old what a silly suggestion Confused Hmm - my baby jumps in my belly if he hears a loud siren / clash from outside!

Anyway, I've picked a selection as wanted to have several things I can try instead of listening to the same song ad nauseum after birth - I've got Katy Perry "firework", the glee rendition of journey's "don't stop believin", Mozart symphony %2340, Coldplay "yellow", and Goo Goo Dolls "Iris". I read (so don't know if true!) that only 4-5 songs will be recognized if played a lot so didn't want to bombard the fellow. Grin

Although I do sort of wish I'd picked Cheryl Cole fight for this love now. Wink
