That is in response to a colleague earlier. But in my head I fumed "and not that its your business but actually mid wife said I look about right for 32 weeks".

On Saturday in a cafe a random old women said I look big for 32 weeks. What would you know?!!

Ggrrrrrrrrrrr! RANT OVER AND BREATHE!

Yeah I was asked several times if I was having twins, I am only 5' though.

Baby turned out to be 10lb 6oz with huge placenta and rope of an umbilibal cord

HannahBerry · 26/03/2012 17:26

I'm about a size 14, 5'5''. Hope all was OK with your LO, RandomMess.

She was fine, very very long, no baby clothes to fit in my hospital bag though Grin

bagpuss · 26/03/2012 17:58

Ah, sympathies. People were always asking me this with ds2 (who was big).

During my last pg, some snarky cow at the school gate asked me the same question. Yes I replied, because I actually was Grin. She really didn't know how to respond after that.

Just ignore them - if you were on the small side for dates they would probably criticise that too!

gastonscave · 26/03/2012 18:02

When I turned up at the delivery suite to have my second, the duty midwife couldn't believe I was only having the one, so much so she trotted me down to the maternity ward to parade me in front of all the staff and they had a good laugh at the size of me Blush

I was carrying a lot of water in fairness

Happenstance · 26/03/2012 19:18

Lol are you sure there's not 2 in there, i had this from about 12 weeks 2nd DC, then my bump dropped now all i get is Ooh your not very big are you Confused Groan

Clandy · 26/03/2012 19:23

I have had this all along with dd2, then got measured on Friday and told I'm small for dates!! Can't win....

Spiritedwolf · 26/03/2012 19:33

There's no excuse for midwives who ought to have a good idea of what a range of women look like at different stages of pregnancy, but in fairness most people have only a vague notion (or memory) of how big pregnancy bumps get.

If it helps any, I'm 22wks+5 and just accompanied my husband to an appointment with a nurse. She asked how far along I was when DH said he was looking forward to baby coming, and when I told her she said 'You'll start getting a noticeable bump soon'.

I do have a noticeable bump, but clearly she mistook it for fat... (grumble). To be fair, I haven't seen her for ages, and was a lot fatter when I did, so maybe, if anything I looked smaller to her (sigh).

Emsgale · 26/03/2012 20:09

iv had comments like omg are you having twins your massive etc etc but iv been monitored regually with scans as bump messures 4 or 5 weks smaller than it should and so does the baby.
everyone becomes a bump exspert when you pregnant it gets right on my whatsits!!
I cant wait to have the baby so people can stop critisising and passing comment.on my size etc!!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 26/03/2012 20:41

I was huge on dc2, our elderly neighbour told me I should charge for people to look at me and would draw a crowd bigger than the bearded lady Shock Angry

I don't understand how it is socially acceptable to comment on someone's size just because they are pregnant

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 26/03/2012 20:42

Btw ds was 10lb 6 too!

katiegolightly · 26/03/2012 20:44

Yep, people must have an opinion - nobody will say, 'oooh you look lovely' or 'oooh just the right size!' I'm constantly getting furrowed brows and 'you're awfully small for 36 weeks' - like I just made up the dates and clearly I'm wrong. I was worrying but now I've just got to ignore them.

The sonographer gave me one big eye roll when I said this to him this morning. Everyone wants to be an armchair obstetrician!

Oh the other good one is 'oh yes, I can see you've definitely dropped / not dropped now'. Nobody knows what on earth they are talking about especially as my baby is still breech and I actually know exactly where she is today!! Why must people pretend/assume they know what they are talking about??

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 26/03/2012 20:46

I am getting this too. The next person who say oohh your getting big, I am going to reply with, oh yes so are you.

justlemonade · 26/03/2012 20:49

I'm going to poke in the eyes the next person who says this to me!

picnicbasketcase · 26/03/2012 20:53

I think people just cast their minds around to think of something to say and unfortunately all seem to come up with this daft thing. I was asked this by several people during both of my pregnancies. One idiot asked if I was expecting enough babies to make up a football team 'because you're MASSIVE aren't you?' Hmmm. Fook off.

Cutelittlecatlover · 26/03/2012 21:47

I'm getting really pissed off with the constant comments too, someone said to me last week 'look at you you're really massive aren't you?' Shock and then sat waiting for an explanation! Angry

Impatientwino · 26/03/2012 22:17

Woman who served me in the post office today asked me when I was due and then told me I was massive and asked if I was sure it was only the one! Am just under 6 months and was spot on at last scan and clinic.

Told her it was mainly cake, that shut the nosey cow right up Grin

What really smarted was that from the look of her she was hardly a salad lover herself!!!!

DowagersHump · 26/03/2012 22:22

I had polyhydramnios so was measuring 40 weeks at 32. I had SPD too and every time I got a twinge on the street, people would rush forward, hoping thinking I was going into labour.

It's really fucking irritating isn't it?

justhayley · 26/03/2012 23:16

I got asked if I was eating as my bump is very small - it's not it measures bang on! I was so upset - how dare she insinuate im starving myself and baby - im a size 10/12 by the way! People are strange they think it's ok to tell a women at her most vulnerable time about her appearance. Whether they say ur too big or small for ur weeks it's an insult & rude. If they need to say anything about bump size it should be u have a lovely shaped bump - if they don't think that they shouldn't say anything.
Hope your ok, seen too many ladies get upset by these comments it really winds me up AngrySad
I'm sure your bump size is perfect Grin

willowshimmer · 27/03/2012 09:24

I got asked if there were two in there yesterday :( It is really annoying coz I feel huge without being told it by complete strangers who have no right to comment on anything about me. I am 36+4 and yes I do have an impressive bump (very low and sticky out) but keep yr comments to yrself pleeeeeeease lol. Only my OH and my kids can get away with it without me being offended

LeBFG · 27/03/2012 09:59

I remember getting soooo annoyed too at all the comments when i was pg - particularly the 'aren't you small' compared with my pregnant neice at the time. To be fair, she had a BMI of 35+ before she ever got preggers...so i was always going to be tiny in comparison...

anyway, i think random people make comments like these not to annoy pregnant ladies, but because they are interested (funny way of showing it i know). They see a pregnant lady and want to say somthing - to acknowledge they've noticed, to engage in conversation, to emphathise with. When I see someone pg now i have the same urge. It's such a special time.

Best of luck with your pg girls!

Hotpotpie · 27/03/2012 10:35

Suddenly everyone is an expert arent they, im 37 weeks this week and measuring bang on, I can walk down the street and half the people will happily tell me im massive, the other half that Im tiny - I have perfected a death stare and use it liberally - after a diabetes scare last week Im scared enough of a huge baby as it is! I agree with LeBFG though, I think a lot of the time people just dont realise how annoying their comments are and they are just showing an interest

PrincessWatermelon · 27/03/2012 12:19

"Are you SURE you're not having twins?". Err, yes, I've had 4 scans. All show one, admittedly large, baby.

When this information is relayed, after looking disappointed for a moment the person tends to reply that I'll be "HUGE by the end...still 3 months to go". Yes, I'm well aware of that, thank you very much!!

vix1980 · 27/03/2012 13:57

Op im so glad you started this as i had my secind encounter with a rude stranger only yesterday, the first was back in january (5 months) a lady asked when i was due i told her June, she immediately goes, oh god are you sure its not twins. queue me walking out of the shop gobsmacked that a stranger would be so rude.

then yesterday waiting to use the cash machine, in front of me is a man and his wife, man turns round and says is it s a boy, i say we havent found out, he says yep its certainly a boy, boys always make you look bigger are you sure its not twins. so i ask him when he pased his midwifery course to know such facts, he stood there shocked and his wife laughed at him, making conversation is 1 thing but being rude deserves being rude back, dont they know im chocka block with hormones at the moment!

to be fair up until a few weeks ago i was hardly showing, and now ive sprouted this enourmous thing with only 2 months left to go, cant wait till its all over!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 27/03/2012 17:02

My neighbour has actually just said to me "my god look at your stomach, look at your fat stomach"!!!!!!!!!!AngryAngryAngry

To which I replied "how's weightwatchers going for you recently?" GrinGrin
