Am a regular poster but am not up for being identified.

I am well into my 40s, no sign of anything vaguely menopausal and have always had fairly regular 28 day cycle. I don't take note of when period due as I get PMS quite badly, and always live in hope that if I don't know when it's due, then perhaps I'll bypass the PMS. I also don't know when my last period was, but it was certainly well over a week before 8th Jan.

Dh and I use condoms but got a bit carried away early this month (8th Jan to be exact) and had a bit of rumpy-pumpy before using one, but only for couple of minutes before seeing sense and using one. I know that it's still possible (but unlikely?) to get pregnant that easily ??

I haven't had any PMS symptoms this month, and also no sign whatsoever of impending period which, at best, has to be at least 7 days overdue minimum.

I take Dothiepin (dosulepin - an anti-depressant) daily which, according to leaflet in packet, is not recommended when you're pregnant as not enough is known about effects. I have also had to take Voltarol (diclofenac potassium - an anti-inflammatory) this month. Information here says not to take when pregnant (can cause deformities). So now I'm shit scared about the whole thing. I still have to take the Dothiepin tonight.

Dh is being lovely, but even he doesn't know how scared I am about this. He said we can buy a test in the morning - but is it really too early to be doing a pregnancy test? Should I be ringing doctor? Yes, I probably should, I know - but am I going to get laughed out of the surgery because this really is too early?

I so need someone to give me some advice here if they possibly can, even if it's to tell me I'm getting worked up over nothing.

oh god - i didnt know that about diclofenac! Not too early to test if your af due date has been and gone. Even so, you can now get early testing ones. Go do a test and set your mind at rest before anything else.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 00:46

(sorry - not even vaguely medical )

hunkermunker · 31/01/2006 00:47

Not too early to test.

Drug warnings often err well on the side of caution.

Don't fret till you know for definite.

Good luck with test tomorrow.

Will be thinking of you x x x

Have absolutely no experience of pregnancy tests now available - do you still have to do it with your "early morning sample"? If yes, can you keep it stored for a while?

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 00:51

No, you can do any time of day (although early morning is likely to have a stronger positive) the sticks are sensitive enough to test at any time of day.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 00:51

First response is an early test one. Clearblue digital is quite straight forward. Both are the most expensive though.

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 00:53

Am past caring about the expense at the moment, just worried.

hunkermunker · 31/01/2006 00:53

Get two as you won't trust one, whatever the result.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 00:54

Yes, good point HM. I used (at least) 2 tests to confirm each pg.

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 00:58

Thanks for this, am trying hard to convince myself that I've instantaneously hit the menopause and am infertile from now on. I know the chances are really low of being pregnant, but I guess you can't be sure.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 01:00

No problem. Try not to worry.

Do the test first and take it from there. Whatever happens, im sure it will work out for the best for you.

Keep us posted and CAT me if you want to chat xxx

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 01:02

Will definitely keep you posted. And will no doubt end up forgetting to change my name too. Many thanks.

Worry can stop your period showing up IME. Or hoping desperately you might be pg - I used to gtest, get a neg, then get my period that day. I realise you're not hoping that, but hoping you're not can do the same thing, I'm sure!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 01:06

Oh i always forget lol! ive stopped bothering now! (Plus its nicer that people know and ask after you....we're a lovely bunch here i find )

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 01:06

Hunker - to be honest, I wasn't really worrying about it until I realised that I wasn't being grumpy and horrible and craving sweet stuff (usual PMS stuff), then started counting days, and then getting panicky. I was definitely NOT hoping to get pregnant though, and certainly not at my age. I think I should go to bed and stop thinking about things.

OP posts:
BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 01:08

If I am, God forbid, pregnant - then I'd tell people my real name. If I'm not, then I'll just slip away quietly and be totally embarrassed.

Have to say when my DM started to go through menopause she got double PMS - all the time - not none at all! Until she went on HRT that is........and we can certainly tell when she has run out

Hope it works out for you xxx

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 01:13

The reason we've used condoms is because I have a bit of a problem with hormones and was warned off going back on the pill after having our children. I was told then that I might have a really lovely time when I started the menopause, and have been soooo looking forward to it. My mum was pretty horrendous too, so I don't stand a chance really!

You and me both, im hoping they find a cure for it sometime the next 10 years! Until then, im going to be eating as much beancurd/soya products as possible

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 01:22

Is that supposed to help? Already have soya stuff, so have obviously already had menopause and come through it unscathed - all in the space of a month!

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/01/2006 09:45

Apparently the symptoms of menopause are virtually non existent in China and other far eastern countries. This has been attributed to the high content of soya/beancurd content in their diet. So i've been told anyway!

Hope you get the answer you want today.

kreamkrackers · 31/01/2006 12:52

i'd get a first response test, worked for me! try to do a morning sample as they're the strongest but try doing it soon after collecting the sample as the hormone does slowly disapear from the urine. try not to worry these things happen and sometimes drugs give out warnings that only happen on very very rare occasions but they still have to list them. oh btw, i'm not medical experienced either!

Flossam · 31/01/2006 12:56

Would also like to add to help you worry less I'm 25 and DP does still go in first without protection before he gets nagged into covering up. We've been doing that on the very rare occaisions he convinces me to do it all since DS was born. I stopped BF about 6 months ago and am planning to go on the persona soon so as to be a bit safer. and HTH.

BitOfANamechanger · 31/01/2006 13:32

Have done a test and it's negative. I know it might be too early to be sure, but I think the likelihood of me being pregnant is pretty slim. (Will keep other test handy in case I still need it in a week or so.)

kreamkrackers · 31/01/2006 13:52

well at least you can put your mind at ease and sleep well tonight.
