Morning sickness cures

Two of my very lovely friends are really suffering with morning sickness at the moment. I remember how awful the 1st trimester was (although I didn't know I was pregnant at that point so never actually looked into things that helped morning sickness but that's a whole other thread) so I'm trying to find them some solutions.

What worked for you? if anything

I've not actually been sick, but have had bad nausea. I find eating constantly seems to do the trick. Oh & having been an avid sweet tooth all my life, I can't face anything sweet before the afternoon. Lots of savoury foods - don't worry too much about being particularly healthy at this stage - if crisps are what works then eat them! I find fruit quite helpful as it keeps your energy up

Flisspaps · 08/03/2012 10:08

I was told by a MW that nausea is often
down to low blood sugar, hence it being worse in the morning when you've not eaten for hours.

She recommended Mars bars. To me, that was a prescription of chocolate. Had them in my desk, the car, make up bag - anywhere I could grab one at the first hint of sickness.

BroomForMyChin · 08/03/2012 10:16

I like that suggestion flisspaps Grin

I am living off beige food. Crisps, white bread (preferably in the form of soft bread buns), potato waffles and rich tea biscuits.

I have forgotten what fruit looks like.

festiemum · 08/03/2012 11:13

Extra strong mints have become my best friend! They give my mouth something to do and seem to keep the nausea at bay. I'd also second the bland food and eating regularly thing.

Seriously, soda and lime helped for me. With DS2 eating regularly definitely helped. With DS1 pretty much nothing helped. Soda and lime (very cold) just made it marginally easier.

babybunintheoven · 08/03/2012 13:18

I heart baked beans!

babybunintheoven · 08/03/2012 13:33

Although I find eating helps with keeping the nausea at bay, I am yet to find a solution to the constant salivating. Are you guys getting this too? Any tips to stop it??

festiemum · 08/03/2012 14:09

Yes, baby - this is one of the reasons extra strong mints are my best friend- just sucking on something seems to help. Also fruit pastilles and travel sweets seem to help of you don't like mints!

As a person who cannot stand ginger biscuits, i opted to put a slice of ginger in some boiling water and drink it instead (it was very dilluted ginger) but its worked amazingly so far. eating consistently helps too.

GusTheOneEyedPolarBear · 08/03/2012 14:42

tonic water with a twist of lemon worked for me, also ice lollies. lemon and ginger tea also good

Snowsister · 08/03/2012 14:42

fizzy water, sandwiches and wear travel bands

whatsoever · 08/03/2012 14:50

Eating (anything, just eating) works for me first thing in the morning but after that I get bloated and eating makes it worse. Eating Rennies like they're sweets seems a partial solution.

blondiep14 · 08/03/2012 18:55

Have given up trying to ease it now (11 weeks) just desperately hoping it goes soon. sob !

Keepingbusy · 11/03/2012 22:22

Mini cheddars and ginger biscuits have helped me!
I have only been sick once the rest is constant nausea, all day everyday!

LargeGlassofRed · 11/03/2012 22:32

I didn't find out about vit b6 until my fourth pregnancy, had horrible sickness with the first 3, so when the sickness started a few days after my positive test I panicked and researched like crazy, found some evidence that taking 50mg of vit b6 helps, after a few days if taking it I found the sickness eased and only had the odd wave of nausea not the constant throwing up. I found out at 7 weeks I was expecting twins which is probably why the sickness started earlier.
I really would try it, it's the only thing that made a difference for me and I'd tried everything with the first 3.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 12/03/2012 10:24

Original lucozade, bitter lemon, ginger ale, ribena, ice water, cheddar on carrs water biscuits,

I force a small banana down and a digestive and feel a little better after that.

I'm taking pregnacare, can I take extra b6 does anyone know?

Had terrible ms last time. Was sick a few times every day and really struggled to keep food down. Lost over half a stone by 12 weeks. Hoping it doesn't get like that again!

LargeGlassofRed · 12/03/2012 12:02

I was told by gp it was fine to take extra vit b6 as the body just secretes what it doesn't use.

Sedgers · 31/03/2012 19:57

Orange Lucazade is the only thing I can deal with in the morning when struggling to work early. I avoid all meat and fatty food as it doesn't stay down long.

Sugar-free polos help me though the times when I am nauseous but simply cannot eat at work.

Carb-based meals little and often.

And the odd tripple chocolate muffin!

AliceHurled · 31/03/2012 20:01

The pills the Dr prescribed me. They work a treat. Grin

Tried and failed (but they might work for others):
Travel wrist bands
Nevasic iphone app
Eating
Ginger
My MW recommended Farley rusks

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 31/03/2012 22:09

Lucozade
Ice water
Bitter lemon
Ginger ale
Banana
Croissant
And I sticky toffee pudding frjii milkshake melted away my ms recently.

Sleep.
Eating little and often of anything you can stomach.

mummmsy · 31/03/2012 22:12

I used to keep a packet of dry biscuits like rich tea/digestives in a sandwich bag beside my bed and a drink like cold, cold water or something with sugar like coke/lemonade or a flask with tea so that i could sip the liquid and have something to nibble on as soon as i opened my eyes - even before i got out of bed...some say ginger biscuits although i personally didn't like them Confused

Loislane78 · 31/03/2012 22:18

Like lots of others, I found eating and eating often would keep it at bay for the most part. Largely carbs too. My MW said its the act of chewing rather than eating but chewing alone didn't work for me; or maybe it's just I'm greedy :)

dreamingbohemian · 31/03/2012 22:26

I had MS/nausea my entire pregnancy, so I had lots of time to experiment!

Ginger ale was a godsend, everything else ginger was too strong.

I found Skittles helpful because I could just eat a couple at a time for a sugar rush and it seemed to help.

Breathe in through your mouth, breathe out through your nose -- this is the opposite of what you think you should do, but it really helps.

I found dairy gave a sort of temporary relief but made things worse later.

But really, I think it's very individual. I found grapes very good to eat but someone else might get sick off them.

fengirl1 · 31/03/2012 22:34

Ginger nut biscuits before I got out of bed in the morning, ginger beer - and cough candy for the smell of anything that made me feel sick!
