Morning sickness cures

Two of my very lovely friends are really suffering with morning sickness at the moment. I remember how awful the 1st trimester was (although I didn't know I was pregnant at that point so never actually looked into things that helped morning sickness but that's a whole other thread) so I'm trying to find them some solutions.

What worked for you? if anything

oh yes, in a similar vein as 'little and often', keeping the likes of skittles or glucose sweets (i think they're called) in handbag were handy - similar for hangovers! not sure if this would be effective if you're diabetic tho...

This is really starting to get me down. I have only been sick a few times but have constant nausea. It gets worse after eating. Peppermint tea seems to offer a temporary solution but sods law if I drink too much I get indigestion. I have ordered some ginger tea so hopefully that will work especially as I am finding drinking really hard. I am only 6 +4 so just pray that I find something that works soon.

I'm starting to get really down about it too! Wanted to cry all day today! It's constant nausea. Feels like the worst hangover I've ever had...and I've had it four weeks now!!
travel bands - invested in...don't work at all (for me anyway)
lemonade helps a little
ready salted crisps help a little
Just wish I felt better lying down! If anything feel worst.

Anyone who's had pills off the doc, what did he prescribe?

Hi! I'm bumping this thread up because I'm wallowing in self pity and want sympathy it had some helpful advice. About 10 days ago I was worried about lack of symptoms and now... HA! I feel horribly nauseous any time I'm not eating crap. I had delusions of my pregnancy being like something out of an isabella oliver catalogue but at this rate I'm going to be a right heffa lump in a matter of mere weeks.

I'm adding skittles to the shopping list as it sounds like a good idea, and am currently sipping tonic water with lemon - don't know if it'll work but it feels like it might!

So far my #1 cure has been the quarterpounder with fries and diet coke that I had yesterday. Instantly relieved the nausea for a good few hours.

Extra strong mints saved my life
Frozen red grapes (just pop them in the freezer overnight)
Don't go too long having something (even just a sugary cup of tea can be enough)
Marmite on toast
Protein (scrambled eggs- if you can face it)
Wasabi peas (good strong flavour)
Fruity ice lolly
Get someone else to cook so you don't have to deal with the smell.

My nausea came on slowly throughout the day and was at its worst in the evenings, so I would just go to bed, wake up feeling fine and then slowly deteriorate again.

It started to ease around 12 weeks and now I'm at 14 weeks, it only comes on very gently if I haven't eaten for a while.

One thing though- I used to drink 2 litres of water a day and now just a small glass makes me feel sick, so have to put orange squash in or something. Not sure why.

itdoesnthurt I couldn't agree more re MS being like a hangover. Exhaustion plus that swilling nausea that you get after too much white wine. UGH. So with that in mind, I fine traditional hangover cures to be quite effective, much to my DF's horror, so McDonalds and or diet coke & crisps.

In a slightly healthier frame of mind, I also find

  • peppermint tea
  • marmite
  • cream crackers
  • fresh air (going for a walk in the morning)
  • SLEEP
all moderately effective. Can't say I've found anything that makes me enjoy pregnancy yet, though I'm hoping this will come.
EggsMichelle · 25/04/2012 12:28

I've been slapped hard with the nausea stick the last 2 days, not vomiting but that makes it even more frustrating! At the moment all I can eat is toast with peanut butter, but I've nearly run out so going to have to send the DH to the shops to stock up and bring me back ready salted crisps, they sound appealing! Cream crackers also sound good.

VegemiteSandwich · 25/04/2012 12:38

Wasabi peas sound hopeful, I'll add them to the shopping list along with some strong mints.

Do you reckon I've any change of the husband going to maccas on the way home from Sainsbury's tonight?

Yes londonlivvy it is EXACTLY like a hangover! Only without the fun party :(

I should probably go get some fresh air. Feel too horrible to go out in this wet weather, though.

Carbs, carbs, carbs and eating as often as you can manage and if you fancy it have it.

I found that any brand of ready salted crisps helped (as they used to amazingly well when it was hangovers I was having not MS!) Then massively went off them and onto bread. Can honestly say these are the 2 staples that kept me from throwing up many, many a time.

I then went onto sweets like wine gums for energy but found that they gave me massive headaches at the end of the day - too many E numbers!

Just a case of always having supplies of what helps you. Once went shopping with my mum and took a cheese and pickle sanwich in my bag for 'emergencies' - by the time I ate it was all sweaty and squashed but still worked :)
