I had hyperemesis twice. You can try ready salted crisps or flat coke. Neither of which I would have touched outside of pregnancy, but I could hardly eat and anything is better than nothing.

Beans1977 · 01/03/2012 12:08

I'm not actually sick, but just have quite strong nausea all day! What is it called morning sickness?! if only! So far boiled sweets are saving my life! And ready salted hula hoops. Not quite the most nutritious of diets!

ticklebug74 · 01/03/2012 12:15

I'll be watching this for tips too....... isn't it awful and cruel that pregnancy can make you feel so ill. I am finding that later in the day (usually tea time) I can stomach potato. But so far toast is my saviour (with vegemite :) )

Hope everyone gets over it sooner rather than later....

Yummymummyyobe1 · 01/03/2012 12:48

Try Whittards Ginger beer, Ginger biscuits and fruit flavoured hard sweets. xx

Foundmymojo · 01/03/2012 14:54

I'm surviving on orange juice, lemonade, toast/english muffins. Anything cheesy. Am 11 weeks, hoping it will wear off really soon!

stinkingbishop · 01/03/2012 15:01

Peppermint tea, anything gingery, and rice cakes with a bit of salt sprinkled on.

Chicken flavour supernoodles sometimes worked too but don't tell ANYONE on MN that ;)

campbelly · 01/03/2012 15:22

Toast and marmite, and plain bagels.

And to any one who suggests eating something before you get out of bed - that just means you're even less likely to get to the loo in time for the vom...

Crisps (mostly ready salted hula hoops), pitta bread, bagels, cold fruit (mostly grapes and citrus).

The thought of protein is really unappealing, but I'm trying to force myself.

Sunflower101 · 01/03/2012 16:38

Lucozade helped esp the orange flavour one. Lots of toast, crumpets and tea cakes, no protein either!

blondiep14 · 01/03/2012 18:46

All carbs here too.
Noodles
Crackers
Marmite on toast
Crisps
Cheese sarnies if I'm brave
Ditto jacket potatoe

Oddly, pork pies!

I dread to think how much weight I've put on after so much stodge. Hoping the 2nd trimester sees me feeling better and more salad friendly!

Liquids are giving me most trouble, having to stick to water or black decaf tea, but that's a risk. Esp mid-morning!

nenehooo · 01/03/2012 18:52

I'm with the constant nausea, no actual vomit people... Cleaning my teeth in the morning is particularly troublesome as I have to constantly stop and gag Sad. I'm mainly living on toast or beans on toast and ribena. Had sliced banana on toast today and that made me feel normal for a while. Would give boiled sweets a go but I'm a teacher and they're not allowed/would give the game away...

Hermionewastherealhero · 01/03/2012 19:08

Toast, crisps, fruit, cereal bars, yoghurts, biscuits, crackers and cheese. Hit 11 weeks today and feel a bit better.

piggyboo · 02/03/2012 00:11

Carbs,carbs,carbs!!

Bread/toast
Jacket potatoes
plain crackers
crisps
biscuits

Luckily fruit smoothies tend to go down ok as well so i feel a bit less guilty about my awful new diet.

WinkyWinkola · 02/03/2012 06:11

Doriano crackers. Don't know why but they seem to help far more than any other type.

Oh and that melty Lindt chocolate in the red wrapper.

And full fat milk. Yum.

And I've lost weight. It's bonkers.

PufftyMagicDragon · 03/03/2012 10:02

its getting silly, i barely eat at home yet managed to stuff my face at a chinese buffet yesterday however now its week 8, i can do ginger biscuits, anything from subway, supernoodles and toast.

gone right off veg atm Shock

IslaValargeone · 03/03/2012 11:13

sips of crusha milkshake and fig rolls.

painauchoc · 03/03/2012 11:15

I've just bought some of those pressure bands. They seem to be helping a bit. Plus another vote for marmite on toast! pasta, bread, anything stodgy!

PufftyMagicDragon · 04/03/2012 18:13

also another vote for vegimite on toast after this morning

mammaaintraisinnofool · 08/03/2012 20:36

was surviving on jacket potatoes but vommed the whole thing back up last night before bed, so that has put me off somewhat... orange barley water with loads of ice is my tipple.
am 12 weeks now and tbh it seems to be geting worse :(

OMGBFP · 08/03/2012 21:40

I'm not being sick but am feeling queasy at the thought of any food that isn't plain.

This week I have eaten, bread and butter, toast, a plain cheese pizza, boiled rice, sweetcorn and peas with a grilled chicken breast (struggled with the chicken though).

Anything that has flavour or a smell is out!

oikopolis · 08/03/2012 23:33

so agree about the smell thing.

plain macaroni mixed with a small amount of very bland, mild cheese sauce (shop-bought because i can't bear to grate cheese or smell heated butter atm) is great for me.

also breakfast cereal with 2% milk has saved me. its quick, it's bland, it's fortified, and at least i get a bit of roughage if i buy a good one.

also grapes
jelly
vanilla instant pudding
organic yoghurt
marmite toast! or crackers with marmite
sometimes a small jacket potato
homemade chips are alright

DH makes me a small Nutella milkshake with proper ice cream every few days, and that's great because it's cold so has little smell, but lots of nutrients/calories.

can't bear so much as the idea of meat. gamely attempted a bite of DH's burger the other day and nearly puked on him. eurgh!!

i did read somewhere that a low-protein diet is correlated with higher fertility... it might be that it also prevents miscarriage by the same mechanism... so maybe there's a reason why we're all on the carbs!

Bearhugs43 · 09/03/2012 16:14

Am drinking my own bodyweight in orange squash. All day and all night.

Why are we so good at forgetting what it's like? I really don't remember this with my other pregnancies ( maybe a bit with dc3)

I feel shocking. Woke up covered in a rash today- hoping that is viral.

Does it get worse this nausea and first trimester grottiness with each pg???

elvislives2012 · 09/03/2012 16:24

Peppermint tea sorts me out! Apparently its a ying Yang thing. If u feel hot and sick have peppermint, cold and sick have ginger. Works for me! Also lots and los of fruit. Can't get enough juice, smoothies or salads! Weird.

OMGBFP · 09/03/2012 16:56

Oh you've brought back a memory for me there of having to drink at least 2 pints of orange squash and then promtly throwing it all up again with DC1, can barely tolerate it now!

I think I am going to struggle shortly as going to the supermarket to do the shopping for the week and I can just see me walking out with breaad and cheese and not much else!

Purplecatti · 16/03/2012 16:50

I've worked out juice in the morning makes me worse, if I have OJ at 8 by half 9 it;s come straight back up. I think it's the acidity as I had orange the other afternoon and felt queasy all evening.
I've found chocolate milk a life saver. I only want plain food right now, particularly mashed tatties but they've always been a favourite anyway so I don't know if any thing's really changed.
Food I am surviving on:

  • chocolate milk
  • ice pops
  • apples
  • mashed potatoes
  • boiled eggs
  • egg sandwiches
